SugarPlums Cupcakery

The positive: Their cupcakes are AMAZING. They are moist and they have a huge variety. Everyone I’ve encountered there is super friendly.
The negative: We have ordered either cakes or cupcakes 6 times in the past 3 years and 4 of those times they either lost our order or the order wasn’t delivered on time to the satellite store or someone wasn’t there to meet us at a specified time. It had been a while since the last issue so last week I decided to order a dozen cupcakes again.
Yesterday was the last straw. I called 10 minutes before picking them up and the woman said our order was ready. When I got there, none of the 5 people working there (including the owner) could locate it. I was allowed to choose from the case but the case didn’t include lemon, which was one of the items I was looking most forward to. I was so generously given one free cupcake «for my trouble».
I’ve been burned too many times and will not be going back.

SugarPlums first delighted my palate during my friend’s wedding earlier this year. The wedding cake was actually a tier of SugarPlum Cupcakes: cream cheese cake with cherry filling, cream cheese icing, and cherries on top. Talk about sugarplums dancing in my head! I have remembered these folks’ delicious treats ever since.
Later on, I had their cupcakes at social functions and the Cincinnati Chocolate Festival. White Chocolate Raspberry is my favorite. I also tried the Peanut Butter Chocolate Buckeye and a cupcake with blueberry filling. Of course, the filling is what sets this place apart from any other cupcakery.
Recently, I made the pilgrimage to SugarPlums to order a birthday cake. It was quite the drive from Downtown: about 40 minutes, but totally worth it. The store is a little unsuspecting place in suburban Milford. Inside, I was greeted by a smiling clerk who answered all my questions about ordering a cake. The only downside: their flavors are only listed online, as in, there is no actual menu at the store. I had to look up my options on my phone.
It would be very helpful to have print outs, or even a sign board of the different flavors of cake, fillings, and icing. Even better: have suggestions of which combinations make for a unique, delicious cake. I’m the kind of lady who would pick out a lemon cake with blueberry filling, and snickerdoodle icing. But since this was for a birthday, I played it safe and went with the clerk’s recommendation, and my tried-​and-​true favorite: White Chocolate Raspberry cake. And yes, the cake has the fruit filling inside, just like the cupcakes!
On the day of the party, I received a reminder call that the cake was ready for pick up. The owner was super sweet, just like her treats. The cake was beautiful, delicious and went perfectly with the theme of the party. Although it is a bit out of the way from Downtown, SugarPlums definitely makes it worth the drive. I’ll be back for all my cakery needs.

I have been wanting to try these cupcakes for almost a month now. First time, by fluke, their ovens were broken so I put off my mission to try these beautiful cupcakes another week. I was excited to see raspberry lemonade on the menu for the day but was disappointed when I arrived that they didn’t have even a third of what was on their menu. It was only an hour after open so either these cupcakes just fly off the shelf or aren’t prepared promptly. Given my options I got 1 white chocolate raspberry, a cookies n cream, a vanilla and a cherry pie. The icing on all was delicious but I was very dissatisfied with the overcooked cupcakes. I will be giving them one more try by visiting the mason location, fingers crossed.
