I did some Spring Cleaning over the weekend, so I raided my closet and packed up all the clothes I no longer wear(or fit in to). It’s amazing how much stuff we collect over time that we simply don’t use. Thankfully, there are organizations like Goodwill who can take your donated clothes and put them in the hands of people who actually need/want them. I was originally going to drive to their San Rafael location(which would’ve been a 20 minute excursion from my house). But then someone on Unilocal directed me to this Mill Valley donation center(which is just 5 minutes away from where I live). I drove over to the Camino Alto/Safeway shopping center, located the Goodwill truck in the parking lot, and made my deposit. It was fast and easy. And I felt good knowing that my old stuff would be put to good use. Goodwill — keep up the good work!

Well, it would have been helpful to know this is not an actual store. I circled the shopping center looking for something like a traditional Goodwill store. Instead, this is a 40ft shipping container on the SE corner of the Safeway lot manned by 2 courteous and efficient guys. I was glad to see them working 9am on a Saturday. They take most things.

This drop off is great. The folks here are so nice and courteous. They even took my old broken VCR.

I almost drove to San Rafael. I am so happy this is here. Camino Alto, at Miller, in the Safeway Parking lot. This is the most wonderful place. Spend all weekend cleaning out your house and storage. Do you have 5 male silverback gorillas worth of stuff that you don’t use, but might make other people happy? Go here. Give it to the nice men. Then walk away with that huge ape off your back. Or multiple apes. Or monkey’s, if it is of smaller sizes. You can use this analogy with the whole primate family, one supposes. But it’s a surreal gift that these people offer our communities… They make my life better, and they make other people’s lives better with my stuff. It’s a win-win. Then they hand you a receipt. It’s a glorious thing… owning next to nothing. You have to actively participate in your shedding of material items… it doesn’t happen on it’s own. However… it’s a challenge to clean up, knowing that it’s hard to get rid of «stuff», sometimes. Not here… load up the car, give it to them… they take everything. This place is epic. Thank you.
