Since this place is now closed, I guess it’s pointless to write a review. I feel a little bad because the server wasn’t that great, but I feel he was trying. He was most likely the son of the husband and wife owners behind grill. He was just too shy and not really meant to be a server. We didn’t even get a chance to try the food, sooo… moot point. We basically waited so long for our food and were so starving that we just left. And went to get phở instead at my favorite place in Millbrae. The end.

Very bad place for«vietnamese» food Saw this place was opened and with the knowledge that this place opened only recently, I thought I might give them a shot, seeing there’s no customers inside. Needless to say, now I understand why. I ordered their banh mi sandwich, and it came out to be a nasty abomination. The meat inside tasted old and frozen, as if the owners didn’t care anything about fresh. Just the meat itself turned my taste-buds off, and after one bite I wrapped the sandwich up in its paper wrapping and disposed of it at the nearest trash receptacle outside. Never again!

Our waiter only had two words in her vocabulary. «Thank you.» This place was empty, and now I see why. Their phở chin was nasssttyyy. Hella plain. No substance or flavor whatsoever. Spring rolls were not fresh. Maybe I should have tried a sandwich instead. I can see this place closing down in about a month.

Please don’t waste your money and time here. The place was totally empty and we thought we would still give it a try since it’s grand openning. We orderd PHO, their #1 sandwiche and eggroll(both were recommended by the waiter). I would say this is the worst PHO that I ever have. I bet any homemake noodle soup is better than this place. I should have read the reviews before trying this place. Would not go back again. Good Luck.

Yes, Bön Baguette is a family-owned business with the teenage kids working as the waiters. Yes, the restaurant just opened recently and is still sorting out its kinks. Yes, the place looks nothing like a French-Vietnamese restaurant with its traditional diner layout and furniture. But that doesn’t stop Bön Baguette from making delicious – and I might add, unique – sandwiches. Since the grand opening of the restaurant, I have eaten at the place on three separate occasions, each time ordering a different sandwich, and each time leaving with a satisfied stomach. Not knowing anything about French-Vietnamese cuisine on my first visit, I ordered a hot cup of tea and a grilled beef bánh mì sandwich. Although the tea was very typical, with a Lipton black tea bag in a mug, the sandwich was simply amazing. The slices of meat were grilled perfectly and the taste and texture were just well-done. The cucumber, onions, carrots, and cilantro added a variety of flavors to the sandwich, balancing the savory of the meat with a tiny bit of sweet and sour, not to mention the bright, sharp aroma of the cilantro. To top it all off, a slice of cheese, which I believe was Swiss, completed the baguette by giving it a slightly creamy taste. I deeply enjoyed the sandwich and left nothing on the plate. On my next visits, I listened to the young waiter’s recommendations(yes, it was the same person those two times) and tried the Special Sandwich(which is apparently the traditional Vietnamese baguette with cold slices of ham) and the grilled pork bánh mì. I also got the milk tea with tapioca to go along with my food. Neither sandwiches disappointed me and the drinks were satisfactory. The tapiocas were indeed on the overcooked side and weren’t as chewy and I had expected. However, I greatly approve of the recommendations both times. Unfortunately, Bön Baguette does not exactly have an attractive appearance, outside and inside. The place looks like a burger joint and could use some remodeling and renewing to fix the crooked lights, the creaking chairs, and the toppling tables. The service, too, could be improved. On my second visit, I had to wait about 15 minutes for my baguette. The waiter apologized and said it was because there were too many customers for the lone chef to handle. Nevertheless, I would definitely recommend Bön Baguette to anyone who is looking to try some French-Vietnamese food at a really affordable price. The baguettes I had were $ 5.99, $ 4.99 and $ 5.99, respectively, with the tea and the milk tea being about a dollar each. Even though I have not yet eaten the restaurant’s noodle soup and other dishes, I am sure they are just as good as the sandwiches, and I will certainly be visiting Bön Baguette again.

Can I say wow? Never did I think a vietnamese sandwich right here in Millbrae. When you walk into the store, it doesn’t feel as genuine as your average, yet what made up for that was the grilled pork vietnamese sandwich I ordered which didn’t disappoint. The teenage staff that was catering(mostly likely children of owners) seemed unprofessional yet they were absolutely friendly and helpful and actually kind of funny to be honest.

This place just opened and so I think they’re still working out the kinks. So hopefully a better review will come along. Their sandwiches were a good size for me and I liked that the pork was different from what I usually get in the city. I’m not sure about authenticity but it was good by my standards. I don’t like cilantro usually but they used good quality cilantro and it didn’t overpower the entire sandwich. I also liked the bread they used. Unfortunately, their tapioca was bad and not a good place to go for drinks. Maybe it will get better so I say give it some time. Then again there is a Quickly right around the corner so maybe just get the drinks at the drink shop and the food at the food shop. :)

for now this place gets three stars. i went on opening day so i can guess things were a little hectic for them. i got a beef sandwich, it was pretty tasty beef and i enjoyed the pickles. took a little while to make, but hey, its the first day. They didnt have everything prepared. only the drinks on the menu and the sandwiches. There are planning on having vermicelli and rice plates. downside was the sandwich cost me about $ 6. Usually i would like to pay anywhere from $ 2 – 4 for one of these. at its current price its a little steep. if i am craving a vietnamese sandwich badly ill probably comeback because i work nearby. its always strange walking into this particular location because its constantly changing hands… but ill root for these guys. maybe drop the prices and this could be an awesome place.

On the way dropping off to Fedex Kinkos, I parked right in front of a brand new mom and pop up serving banh mi’s aka Vietnamese sandwiches, smoothies, and regular sandwiches.( ) The staff is all mom and pop, the chef is the dad, the kids are the waitstaff. It’s the old Peter’s Café so it still has that diner look.( ) Ordered a dac biet banh mi. $ 5( ) It was served warm with the standard toppings of pickled veggies, pork loaf, cilantro, a little pâté, and ham instead of head cheese on a french roll. The french roll was different from the baguette it’s supposed to have, the veggies didn’t have that twang, plus there wasn’t any jalapeño? It’s tough giving this friendly mom and pop 2 stars but the banh mi just wasn’t good.
