I’ve been going to this gym for about 7 – 8 years, and boy has it started to fall apart as of late. The pro’s: it’s great for weightlifting. They have more free weights and body-building machines than most gyms I’ve seen. They have a nice functional training area, complete with big tire, sledge hammer, stones, sleds, etc. Con’s: this place is pretty gross. It feels like the only way things get cleaned is if the members take it on themselves to place weights back correctly, wipe down machines, etc. Which is true of many gyms. But its the little things that drive me nuts about this place. Bathrooms frequently run out of paper towels. Water fountain has been broken for months, goes unfixed. Just today the other water fountain that had been working apparently got clogged, and water and spit basically pooled up in the fountain. The locker rooms smell-I avoid at all costs. I come here for the great weight lifting equipment, but can’t wait to switch gyms when I am able to. Management really needs to start taking better care of this place before it turns into a total dump.

I am very disappointed in this gym as of late. Machines always broken, paper towels never in the machines, just rolls laying on the floor, dirty, messy, unorganized. Quite honestly, just turning into a dump. Makes me wonder if that is why they changed the name, weren’t keeping up with Gold’s franchise standards? If this were a gym where the monthly fees were say $ 10-$ 15 well then you can roll with it, but for the price they charge it’s unacceptable. When my membership is up I will be switching to a gym that charges less and is MUCH nicer, the extra 5 min. commute won’t bother me for the level of customer service I will be getting

Great gym if you like lifting weights multiple squat racks bumper plates a platform for deadlifts or oly lifts lots of dumbbells. They have great conditioning equipment also including a sled. If you are looking do to light cardio and watch tv you could find somewhere cheaper. If you wanna lift and hit PR’s this is the place for you.

I’ve been a member here a long time. Many years. Lately the place has started to fall apart. Today about 6 of the treadmills were out of order. A couple of them have been out of order a year now. A few of the elipticals are too and there are not even signs on those ones. Over the holidays the changing rooms and bathrooms were a disaster. I am friendly with the front desk gals and I have reported this stuff. They tell me the management knows(others have complained) and is not planning to do anything about it. If you are considering joining I would suggest getting a commitment from the club about repairs and having that on your contract and having them initial in case you want to bail after a month or so. This place is not the least expensive gym around. Maybe the others all have similar issues.

I’ve gone to this gym for many years and have been very satisfied. I have gone during peak hours and only once in 5 years have I had to wait for a treadmill. Plenty of space to move around so you don’t have to worry about being in someone’s way every time you move or pick up a weight. the equipment is also fairly new and everything is in working order. Previous comments have mentioned the locker room issues, but compared to other places I’ve been too, it’s pretty nice, with several private showers. I definitely recommend this gym, so why 3 stars? One is the price. On top of a hefty up front fee, you’re paying about $ 45/$ 50 a month or more. If you use the showers, sauna, take classes, etc. it’s worth the money. I just wish they had a cheaper rate for someone who has never and likely will never take a class. One glaring disappointment compared to other gyms is the lack of TVs and the channels that they are on. For $ 10 a month, you can go to Planet Fitness, and get several TVs and solid channel options, along with a plug-in on each cardio machine to listen to whatever TV you want. For example, the PF in Waltham has 8 TVs running different channels along with the ability to listen to each one. At Gold’s, you have a whopping 3 channels to choose from. One Saturday morning, my choices were cartoons, CNN, and the history channel. Seriously??? They also don’t have headphone plug-ins for you to listen to the TV, just signs telling you«turn to this radio station.» Hey Gold’s, it’s 2010, everyone has iPods now, we can’t turn to a radio station! While it’s not a major issue, when you are paying 5 times more than Planet Fitness, there’s no excuse for any aspect of Gold’s to be inferior to PF in any way.

Large selection of equipment(cardio, machines, and free weights) seldom is the place full. Typically on weekends(9 – 11) and week days(5 – 6) during the new resolutions period(Jan-Feb). The worst I’ve seen is you can’t use one machine for 1 – 2 mins. Very good classes/instructors. They have recently added a bunch of the Les Mills classes(Bodycombat, bodypump) The only knock I have is the evening classes start at 6:30. I’d like them earlier or later. I like price is right for what you get. It isn’t the low cost option but if you want to take classes it is a great place and a good value. The place is a typical suburban gym a mix of meatheads, highschooler, mothers, retirees, and middle aged parents. No one group dominate the place. You can see yourself when you go here. The one negative is the men’s bathroom. While not the worst gym I’ve seen, it could use more frequent cleanings and more ventilation.
