This location was formerly an A&P only earlier this year before its conversion to an ACME store, which is in a strip mall whose parking lot has some of the worst potholes I’ve had to drive around. If you’re in the neighboring complex with the Target and Applebee’s, you can drive here using a side road without exiting onto Ryders Lane first. The entrance/exit is the produce/deli/kosher/bakery sections, while the pharmacy/frozen foods/dairy/floral sections are at the opposite end of the store. This store is generally clean, but poorly lit. I’m not sure whether this is just a cost-saving measure, but the low-wattage lighting really emphasizes how empty and drab the store can be. Since the ShopRite on Rt. 18, which is much larger and competitive in terms of price and quality, captures most of the supermarket traffic in the area, this Acme is also frequently left with a lot of rotting produce and expired perishables due to slow turnover that the largely octogenarian and Jewish customer base somehow manages to tolerate. In the end, because of the several considerably better alternatives nearby this Acme is to me merely a large convenience store that I would only occasionally visit for certain promotions.

I truly don’t understand why they don’t pull expired food off the shelves! We try to avoid ACME due to it being very overpriced compared to Shoprite and Target/Walmart, but sometimes we end up running there for a quick few things and it’s also closest to our home. Most of the time we go, we will be looking at the meat or deli area(ex: macaroni salad) and notice there’s a ton of expired meats and salads! I have brought it to the attention of the meat department or an associate at the deli and they say something like, «Oh thanks.» Like its no big deal. That’s disgusting. Have someone dedicated to taking expired foods off the shelves! My husband got breakfast for us this morning, bacon and hash browns and had go to back to the store because the hash browns had expired over a week ago! We usually check dates, but his time he ran in and didn’t check. Please pay attention to your food! Shoprite never has expired food. Lower your prices if you want to sell expired food. The meat department is no exception. That’s a health hazard if someone were to eat expired meat over something like expired cereal

For some reason, when I need to run out to the grocery store, I always find myself drawn to ACME. Maybe it’s because I was one of the lone goy living amid the Hasidim in South Williamsburg back in the 00s, and this ACME makes me feel like I’m at home. Maybe because it reminds me of growing up as a young boy in East Brunswick, where the Mid State Mall ACME was always such a popular destination. Maybe it’s my love for Wile E. Coyote, whose pursuit of the Road Runner was always aided by gadgets purchased from the ACME corporation. Actually, it’s two-fold. One, it’s pretty close to home. And two, my favorite liquor store is in the same strip mall, making life über-convenient. They also have a great selection of just about everything, and it’s almost never crowded, so that makes me happy. 4 stars.

Went there on August 21st2015 to take advantage if a few sales they had going on… Customer service there was great also… Also I like ACME because it aint as busy like other supermarkets with people crowding in your face and bumping into you… i just disagree with the two dollar priced microwave Michelina meals that are just a dollar elsewhere and a few other things high priced…

One of the most expensive supermarkets in the area, they get three stars because they have a nice selection of Dietz & Watson cold cuts, as well as FABULOUS fried chicken. I wish they would offer the fried chicken using bell & Evans, Murray’s, or any other brand NATURAL chicken. They also carry the hard to find, John Martin & sons reduced sodium bacon.

I try to avoid ACME at all cost, only because it’s a bit more expensive than other grocery stores in the area. I stop in from time to time if I pass it on the way home from work. Shop Rite is a bit further away from home compared to ACME. The store itself is nice, clean. They have a nice produce section. I will say, their floral department is the best around, for a grocery store. Tons of great bouquets and balloons, if you are in need of a quick gift for someone! I’m not too impressed with their meat selection and again, more expensive than Shop Rite, even Stop n Shop. I’ve bought seafood here as well and didn’t have any issues. It was actually really good. I like that they offer wild caught shrimp and other fish. A nice place to shop, just expect your bill to be a lot higher than that if another store.

Fish purchased yesterday was spoiled. 2nd time in 2 months seafood was bad. The store is generally a little too pricy to do regular food shopping. The produce and salad dressing as well as bakery is good but disappointed with seafood lately.
