But it’s closed now. The buffet I had on a weekend was pretty good.

Was here for an early lunch right when they opened. Looks like this has now been rebranded as Karaikudi now but pretty much the same food. The décor is nice and bright and I liked the use of colors. Be warned that Chettinad cuisine is super spicy, so make sure that you keep that in mind when you place your order. The dosa was meh. The kothu paratha and biryani were good. Overall an OK meal.

This review is for the takeout order I placed yesterday. I ordered the chicken biryaani, veg biryaani and the rasmalai. The biryaanis were spice-less and bland. It seemed as if it was cooked by someone who had only a vague idea of what a biryaani should taste like. Was not able finish it. The rasmalai had a weird taste/smell and seemed stale. Was too scared to finish that too. Ambiance and good service aside, this place should try harder at what people primarily visit it for — making good food. But being a south Indian, I am tempted to give this place another chance before giving it a one star rating.

Food never met the expectation. Visited the restaurant couple of times with colleagues and family… Not worth the money. we ordered the koothu prarota., could easily make out that they were made with either frozen or old Prarota(south Indian nan, roti) Would recommend the restaurant Pride of India, Milpitas instead.

The vegetarian buffet was pathetic !!! Very less options for appetizers. They had a kadai paneer which was full of salt and tasted very bad.

I recently tried their lunch buffet and I would rate them average. They did have a good selection of vegetable dishes. The quality of dishes varied every time I was there. They started out pretty good and on the recent visit I could sense the quality and taste of the dishes drift away. This place has good potential given that they are so close to lot of tech companies in San Jose.

Bad food no where near to chettinad style. Biriyani was like tamarind rice Fish fry was not fresh.

The veg thali was good. Not too spicy and well flavored. Courteous staff.

This place was delicious! We ordered the veg thali. Tandoori chicken kebabs, garlic and butter naan, and chicken tikka masala. It took some time to serve us but they had a very extensive menu-eight pages long! I was lighted by the chicken tikka masala and garlic naan! I could literally drink it! It was creamy and sweet like a tomato bisque. The veg thali was good because there were so many side dishes I had never tried before and enough sides I was familiar with that it made it an enjoyable meal. The chai was great after our meal too because it was not too milky or too bitter(I drink it without sugar). It seems like the lunch buffet is the best option because it is all you can eat for $ 11.99 and it has over 35 veg and non veg options! The space was immaculate and the waters take time to put out the place settings.

Probably 3.5 I would consider it Great customer service for this kind of restaurant by the one woman army in the front. Fish fry: good, nothing great, also had a very fishy taste in some parts. Wont order again Mutton soup: Very spicy and tasty. Not for everyone, but kind of felt like there was too much ajinomoto(MSG) in it. I had that feeling. Yes, I cook at home sometimes and I know what MSG tastes like. Thalapakattu chicken biryani: As expected, pretty tasty but not excellent. Probably will order this again. Brain masala: I rarely order this and the masala was bland. Parota: Excellent, no other words to say. Will come back to try their lunch buffet, which looked awesome for a south Indian pallette

Just finished dinner with my wife this Fri. When we got there it was around 6p and we were the second table. So service was pretty good since the waiters outnumbered the guests. Food was overall pretty good… Naan had a nice crunch but was also soft on top. The quarter piece of tandoori was very small though. It was just one small drumstick attached to a small thigh. All that for $ 5! It was definitely overpriced. We also ordered a chicken with gravy but it wasn’t that special or memorable. It only had 4 small pieces of chicken. And they were charging rice for $ 5! All told our dinner came out to $ 20 but we weren’t stuffed. If it was cheaper, then this restaurant is 4 or 5 stars. As it is, this place is too expensive. I would not come back for dinner but I might try the buffet. Lunch is 11.95 on weekdays and 14.95 on weekends.

Visited this place for weekday buffet lunch. Pros: 1. Simple yet delicious food. 2. Best non veg items to try: Butter chicken without bones(one of the best in bay area). Chicken Manchurian and Roasted chicken. Nan and biryani were also very good and everything was served hot. 3. Owner/manager and staff was very helpful and courteous. He came to our table and asked about food and quality. 4. Butter milk and Roofafza(indian rose drink) were also part of buffet menu which I have not seen around in any of buffets. 5. Economical. 11.95 for weekday and 14.99 for weekend. Cons: 1. Not much variety in vegetarian options other than south Indian food. Only paneer and Kadi. Owner told me that they more option in veg/non veg on friday’s and weekends. 2. Only Naan in breads 3 Nothing else that I could think of Me being a north Indian guy, know the taste of punjabi food(roasted chicken and butter chicken). It is very close to what we get in north India Suggestion: Add a dal(yellow or Dal Makhni) to daily menu and add more options in bread(roti and paratha if possible) My verdict: Very good food in much cheaper price.

Taste: good Ambience: average Note: both anjappar and chettinad palace has almost similar menu. I prefer chettinad palace over anjappar. Service and food far better than Anjappar. Price: not expensive. $

We were here to pick up food. We ordered Gongura Chicken and Egg Kothu Parota and they were really very tasty. The kothu parota was closest, we’ve found in the Bay Area, to match the street food taste that we miss here. The ordering process was as usual fine, while picking up the order, the old gentleman at the billing counter was very friendly. We’ll be back for trying the biryanis and the huge buffet spread that they claim

Found this place while Unilocaling. New place and the name was tempting to try. Ambience was good. Menu was as usual chettinad. Slit hiccup with people who took the order. Anyways food is what I was expecting. Ordered Biryani, Parotta, Mutton Sukka, and Fish fry. Food came on time !!! Taste was really good. Thalapakatti chicken biryani and Mutton sukka are must try dish !!! Only improvement I would say is the language and behavior of waiter and waitress. However supervisor and I think the owner was available to solve today’s issue with billing which is appreciated !!! All the best to continue the same tasty food and to improve customer service.

Chettinadu Palace is right around the corner from our house. I saw a GRANDOPENING sign a couple weeks ago and I finally made it over. My qualifications for writing this review: I’m married to an Indian and have lots of experience eating and cooking Indian food. Just sayin’. I’ve seen a couple of Chinese restaurants come and go in this corner spot. Seems like certain locations don’t work for restaurants, no matter what kind of food it is. I’m hoping that Chettinadu can turn things around and make it work! We came on a Sunday afternoon expecting a buffet, but no buffet which was fine with us. We generally don’t care for buffets. Pretty big place, lots of tables — a few that are too close to one another. Waiter helped us zero in on some good dishes: +SPECIALCHETTINADUCHICKENCURRY(5⁄5) — Loved this curry. Everything a curry should be: tender chicken, fragrant aroma, and good spice level! This curry is a winner. Simple, but so right on. I can tell you now for sure, I will be back for this curry. +FIRENAAN(4⁄5) — Right up my alley. You had me at «fire»! They sprinkle some fresh green chili over a freshly baked naan and it was indeed fiery. Not as puffy and chewy as some naan I’ve had, but still very good and the chili made up for whatever was lacking. Would order again. +PARATA(4⁄5) — Sort of like a flattened croissant, with some flaky layers. Very good for dipping in the curry! +AMBURMUTTONBIRIYANI(4⁄5) — Wife’s dish. She was happy. I tasted it, but for me I think the best biriyani in town goes to Hyderabad Dum Biriyani up the street. Our encounter with Chettinadu Palace today pretty much guarantees that we’ll be back. Everything on our table was dee-lish and now I’m REALLY hoping that this place will succeed. I imagine as they work out their kinks, they will get even better. My wife didn’t like the bathroom, and so she asked me to take off a star for that. I guess that’s fair. But please note, the food did not disappoint! Indian food fans, here’s a place you need to try.

Pretty good place. Try out the stuffed dosa. One of the few placed to offer that. The fire chicken looks intimidating on the menu but it’s worth a trial if you’re used to chettinad spice. Docking a point for the service, not because it was bad but if seemed like there were still getting used to the layout of the place(we got another table’s bill etc)

We went there for dinner just 2 – 3 days after it opened, so facility wise there is still work to do. A new place should have spanking new restroom and facility and it seemed like a hurried clean up job after previous restaurant closed. a little yucky(2 pts). Food, can be better. There menu is great. We ordered Fire Chicken curry(4 pts), Kuthu Parotha(4 pts), Gongura Mutton(2 pts for being too salty and not fully cooked mutton) and Dosa Roast(4 pts). Average food 3.5 Service was pretty good. I like the fact they offered to redo the Gongura mutton when we mentioned it was too salty. We have to go again to try other dishes as well. Good addition to Chettinad rest on McCarthy.

Great food! We came here on a recommendation by a friend. The place is very spacious and has a good parking lot behind. While we were there, we could see a lot of people coming in, which was a great sign for us. The music was a little too loud. Hope they can take care of that. Now coming to the food, the menu boasts of some great South Indian dishes. For the starters we ordered aatu elumbu soup(mutton bone) and chicken manchurian. The soup was on the spicier side but very flavorful and tasty. I would definitely recommend this. The chicken manchurian was also good. For the main course, we ordered egg kothu parotta and Ambur goat biriyani. Both the dishes tasted great with the right amount of spices! It is very hard to please my hubby when it comes to food. But he approved of every single dish which was surprising to me! The Non veg thali sounded tempting, will order it next time. Hope they will maintain the standard in the days to come. Definitely recommend this place!

A brand new south Indian restaurant. The food was pretty good. We had a vegetarian thali and a kaara masala dosa. Other than the kaara kuzhambu, everything was very very good. I didn’t like that the hosts/waiters stood next to our table for the entire time we were there. Also, they didn’t have ice for our water. These are easy to fix issues. Overall, a restaurant with great potential.
