As I drove past this place I figured why they claim to be authentic Kerala cuisine place, the building from outside looks like a small bungalow. I was initially a bit disappointed since they were not serving ala carte but just the buffet. However the disappointment was soon gone because the food did justice. The kappa(tapioca) and meen curry(fish curry) was fabulous. I liked the puttu but it missed the kadala curry. Overall the food and ambience is too good.

For traditional south india(Malayale) food this place is the only option in the bay area. The food is good but the portions are bit small and the services leaves a lot to be desired. I have been here a few times with a small group and a big group of friends and the services has been bad every time. I think they try but they are not assigned a table hence you have the help just running around trying to help everyone. So go enjoy the food and expect some issue with service. If you want get the most bang for your buck go for the Sunday Buffet.

Red Chillies serves traditional Malabar coastal food from the southern state of South Indian. If you’re a Mallu(from Kerala) this is the place you should head near San Jose area. They offer super reasonable buffet on Sunday. The menu includes Kerala rice and the following.(haven’t included starters and some other items). Beef Curry: Awesome, medium spicy curry. The beef isn’t roasted. Kerala Porotta, Kerala Rice, Payar Thoran, Meen Curry(fish). Chicken Curry: The chicken was overcooked(more like soup), some people don’t prefer it that way. Kappa(tapioca) and puttu(steamed rice cake): Was OK. Their choice of dessert was limited which includes ice cream and payasam(rice pudding) sweetened with jaggery.

This review is only for the buffet. Most of items were feels like cooked a day before, parotta’s were chill and hard. Just because they want to fill up the pot they put in few chilli power and made a fish curry which is absolute waste. For $ 13 there are better places.

Ok, just had buffet there. The food was COLD and terrible. They forgot to turn on the burners for practically all the veg dishes. I told him to microwave my plate, and he didn’t microwave it for enough time. I also asked him to turn on the burners and he missed two veg dishes, again. I then asked him to replace the food with warm food from inside because it will take forever for food to get warm just through the burner. He didn’t do it. I told all this to the owner/manager while paying and he didn’t even say sorry! It didn’t help that the food wasn’t that great either(or I felt it that way because it was COLD!!!). Left hungry. Absolutely horrible experience for one of the most expensive buffet option. Avoid if you can.

After hearing so much about this place, finally been here for the Sunday Buffet and it was ok. The food was totally made in Kerala Style and most of the dishes are pretty well done. But most of the items were cold and was mainly disappointed with the dessert. They had a box of store brought ice cream. I was expecting something authentic as the food. This place is crowded on the weekends and I would suggest to go early.

Please try to use fresh food instead of frozen. Me and friends got stomach issues multiple times having food from this place. But we go back agin because we don’t have This delicacy anywhere else in Bay Area. Please try to use fresh ingredients I am sure there will great demand. Even now there is great demand but I am sure you may have lost some of your customers just cos the freshness is lacked. Sometime the rice tastes old. I know there is lot of demand, so fit. Understand why you can’t make things fresh

The food tastes good, but the service is terribly terribly bad. We waited for an hour for food. Side came and no entrée to eat with. Parathas got cold and hard for 40 minutes and still nothing. You should not even except a sorry from them for the bad service. At last we had to cancel the items and go home hungry. Very disappointed

Delicious Sunday buffet! I’m not an expert on Indian cuisine but this place was great. I was really excited to try all the different dishes and was happy at the great selection of vegetarian and non-vegetarian choices. Parking can be a little snug and the wait can be a little long, so I would suggest coming when the restaurant opens to prevent a long wait.

I’ve been dreaming about this Kerala style buffet for a while now. My ancestors are from Palaghat and I was hoping this restaurant would invoke memories of my grandmother and her cooking. My husband and I went for the Sunday lunch buffet and hell yeah, it did not disappoint! I am vegetarian and the buffet had about 6 – 7 vegetarian curries to be had with rice or the malabar parota. The curries were mostly simple and great tasting and did not leave me sick or overstuffed as I normally feel after a buffet. My favorite was the Avial and the moru korumbu. The onion pakoras were really well cooked and I had quite a few of those. The sambar was exactly how I make mine at home! The only curry I did not like was the paneer butter masala, it felt a bit out of place for an authentic South Indian restaurant. For dessert there was yummy payasam(which I ate twice!) and a generic ‘cookies and cream’ ice cream. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is the place was a bit disorganized and there was hardly any wait staff. Management was both serving/clearing tables and managing the wait line — speaking of the wait line we arrived at 1:45pm and had to wait 35 minutes for a table. The staff themselves were super friendly and nice. I think I’m going to be a regular at this place just for their buffets!(but arrive earlier)

I love the parottas! This is one and the only best places to have tasty and freshly made parottas. I have been to this place few times for dinner and Sunday special lunch buffet. Totally worth. They have special recipes like meen kozhambu and kizhangu. If you crave for Kerala Malabar food then you must definitely try this place, I would definitely recommend this place to all my friends. Great service and good people.

They offer a good variety of Southern Indian food, including dishes that are made with a coconut milk base. The highlight of the meal is the fish cooked in banana leaf($ 12.99), it has a great flavor and is good paired with the vegetables in coconut milk. The portion size is relatively small, and service is slightly lacking.

My husband and I have been here before and somehow didn’t enjoy it so much. May be we did not order the right dishes from their menu. Luckily, we decided to try it out again and we were in for a real treat. We tried their vegetable cutlet and appam with egg roast. Both appam and egg roast were delicious. The restaurant itself is very clean and spacious with really good service. We will definitely go back again.

VERYAUTHENTIC. REALLYDELICIOUSMALABARFOOD… there I wanted to open my review with what this place screamed to me. even after 4 days of being here. This a place on the corner of an intersection. you park behind the building and walk around to the entrance. The minute you walk in… the first thing you realize is that the place is extremely clean and well maintained. The staff is super friendly and very cheerful. The owner greets everyone personally with a big smile… We were seated promptly and since its tough to find a malabar restaurant in US. we were kind of excited to open the menu and see all the things we love and crave.appam.puttu.idiyappam…poriyal.avial.theeyal and many more… Just reading the menu made my mouth water… So we quickly ordered a poriyal. kadal curry. egg roast with appam, puttu and chapati… we didnt want to waste space on the appetizers: P Everything here is absolutely made to order and if u order appam or puttu you can see the person making it… thats the mark of a restaurant that cares about quality… the down side though is that since they make it to order and they are optimally staffed. it might take awhile for the food to arrive… So after quite a bit of wait while drooling at the food on tables of people sitting, we got our food fresh and steaming hot… we just jumped in. The appam was soft in the middle crispy on the out side… with a hint of coconut milk… puttu was packed with coconut and layered with rice flour. light and fluffy. the chapati was like a pillow. so very soft… The poriyal they had was cabbage. it had some shredded broccoli, coconut, onion and it was made deliciously perfect. I couldnt get enough of it. the kadala curry was black chickpeas in coconut curry sauce… it was delicious. my wife loved her egg roast as well and said it was spicy and had a kick to it. Over all we left the place extremely satisfied and reminiscing about each bite of the food and planning our next trip back.

Spellbinding… the most torrid, luscious and head-spinning Indian cuisine I’ve had in the Bay Area yet. Even when it’s too hot it hurts, it rubs a special spell on you that makes you crave it even more. This is one of those hundred choices menus, and although I’ve only had a half dozen from it, I strongly feel you couldn’t possibly go wrong here. But even that said, my jaw is nearly falling off from ecstasy with the CHICKENMAPRAS — there it goes with that torrid curry sauce! If you want to go with shrimp, I love the CHEMMEENMOILY, which is shrimp in mild gravy with coconut milk and raisins! CHICKENMASALA is good at any reputable Indian restaurant, so yes it’s commonly found, but oh so inspired here! Please order family style and make it epic!!! #classiceats

Being in Milpitas, Red Chillies is a good treat for both my husband & self, & it has become our most favorite Kerala cuisine restaurant in the bay area with many frequent visits. Their ‘Egg Chilli Paratha’ will be very tasty, a must try item here. And their other good ones are Vegetable Mappas — a coconut based mixed vegetable curry, Veg Fried Rice, Butter Milk & Mango Lassi. What is unique about this place is their Spice level, always at the correct proportions. Staff are courteous & attentive. Decent pricing too. I will surely recommend this place being a regular visitor here!
