So sad to see this market go. I grew up shopping at this store. I remember when it was Fry’s. It wasn’t the prettiest store, but the cashiers were always friendly to me, and the price on products was always right. Especially compared to Safeway and Nob Hill. Employees said that they couldn’t negotiate a union contract and that Save Mart was closing stores throughout Northern California. I heard that the market that will probably replace it will be a Grocery Outlet. Womp, womp fail.

How do people still shop at these supermarkets? When I walk down the isle I find no desire for any of their products. I guess thats what happens when you only shop at trader joes, costco, whole foods.

They’re closing in a few weeks! *tear* This is the supermarket I grew up with, so I do have a little biased appreciation. Really adore the deli with their cheap fresh wheat bread and wraps, employees are on the helpful and nice side usually, and you can get virtually everything here more than a few cents cheaper than Safeway’s. With that said, I don’t feel so safe in the area at night, it is a little poorly lit and just not as inviting. Their pesto sauce from some farm in Gilroy tastes more like weird, bitter, lemony preservatives than anything else, so that was a specific turn off for me. Besides that, the store is pretty good. It’s my stop and go market, no frills, but I’ve always been able to find what I need and want here. So gotta love Save Mart for giving me that.

Quality is ALWAYS outstanding; top quality and absolutely fresh! The staff here are all so nice and willing to help, never has there been a time where I don’t get asked if I need help. Very intimate store, everyone is very outgoing and friendly. Their product consists of commercial brands and store brands, and again GREATQUALITY and SERVICE :))

Save Mart Supermarkets in Milpitas is a small grocery store with limited variety of produce for you to choose from. The cheap produce, prime location and friendly staff makes it a great place to shop, however the limited variety and crowdedness during peak hours make it difficult to go shopping here. Pros Cheap: Some of the produce here are pretty cheap and you can get a pretty good deal on meat produce and fresh produce as well. Location: Its in a great commercial area with all the other restaurants and other grocery stores nearby so you can do a lot in the area itself. Staff: They’re friendly and willing to assist you if you ask them for help. Cons Parking: Can be hassle because it shares its parking lot with the other commercial buildings around the area. However, it never gets too packed that you can’t find parking so you might have to do a little walking during peak hours. Variety: They don’t have a huge variety compared to Safeway or the larger Asian supermarkets so don’t expect to find everything your looking for here. Crowded: It can get a tad crowded because of the store venue thats its in, but usually there isn’t a crowd unless its during its peak hours or holiday season. Overall Save Mart Supermarket in Milpitas is a great area to go shopping at if you know there is a good deal there for what your looking for. If you need to do large shopping trips then I recommend going somewhere else. However, nonetheless this place is a great place to do some cheap grocery shopping.

This place is not very nice or not a very good or pleasant place to shop at all. The deals are generally not that great. They have a few good buys every week but generally things are more expensive so you really need to know your prices. Also, the store is not very clean and honestly it has a little bit of a creepy vibe. It also has quite an odd smell, and not an odd smell that could be considered good, but one that s quite awful. Some of the checkers and baggers are nice which is why I gave it two stars and not one, but shop elsewhere for your regular shopping and only stop in here for the few good deals and make it quick!

Have you ever walked into a 99cent store and noticed that the store has a distinct smell? And I’m not talkin’ a nice refreshing, Febreze-y kinda smell, I’m talking mcnasty, dirty laundry kinda smell. Eeeep! Well, this Save Mart… had that lingering smell as well! What does that mean? That means I better get the EFF outta this place, and quick before I gag. We stopped in here to pick up a movie on Redbox on our way back from Healdsburg one weekend. Since it was the only Redbox that had that specific blu-ray disc available in the area. Was it worth it to risk my nostrils from gettin plugged? Well… it sorta was, cuz they had 2 Redbox machines, which was nice and the movie we picked turned out to be a really awesome one. I’m not sure about the produce or food they have here… but I could tell it was somewhat like a Wal-Mart mini supercenter… which ain’t the best peeps.

From what I saw of this store, the place doesn’t live up to it’s name. It’s like going to the dollar store only to find that only some items are a dollar and everything else costs more. For example, I saw a bag of regular potato’s for $ 3.99. Really? I’ve seen a similar sized bag at Trader Joe’s and most regular grocery stores for less. My husband and I left soon after I told him that the prices appear to be about the same price that they’d charge for the same items at other stores or maybe even a little more. A cake was $ 9.99 at the front. The last time I checked, I think most pre-made cakes are around that price. I just saw the produce section and it looked like the same produce you’d find at a better store like Safeway which I like since they tend to have a lot of sales on popular items all the time. You need a Safeway card for the discounts though. It’s free and sometimes if you buy one item, you get the other one for free. Nice! The name of this store is soo misleading. I got excited for nothing-:P

I went here when I was briefly thinking, «hey, I can save money on food.» So, I didn’t go to my beloved Trader Joe’s or even to the always way-too-crowded but with a good selection Rivermark Safeway instead I went here. First of all, this store smells as soon as you walk in the door. I’m not sure what that smell is but it doesn’t smell like anything I’d like to eat– and I’m not picky. Smelly fish, strong cheese, bring it on. I couldn’t find anything, although may be me being inept but I spent 10 minutes trying to find gnocchi, would it be anywhere besides the pasta aisle? I did get some super cheap hummus though. I may go back and get milk and eggs or sale items but I wouldn’t buy produce again.

This just isn’t a great store. I’m guessing they are not doing so well, which leads to the place being understaffed. The few times I come here after work, out of convenience, it almost always seems to be crowded but there are not enough checkers/clerks to move everything along. As people begin to pile up in line at the front of the store, it becomes difficult to move around. Many times I find the lot littered with shopping carts, which again, is probably due to understaffing. And, most importantly, is that there really isn’t a great selection here. That mostly, I’m sure, is due to the store not being very big. But it is what it is. I now generally only come here in a pinch, or if I only need a few things.

The place is cheap although the selections can sometimes be limited. For example, some baking essentials lack choices and the seafood is always frozen or previously cooked. The fruits and vegetables are OK. Come here mostly for the cheap stuff, like buying orange juice when it is on sale 2 for $ 4 or a box of organic milk for $ 3.69. Plenty of parking, never runs out of spaces. The staff are nice people although the queue can be long sometimes and I haven’t seen the«3 is a crowd» practice for awhile.

I came in here today to pick up some oranges for work. I’m clueless when it comes to cooking and grocery shopping in general and had no clue how to pick a ripe orange. The gentleman working the produce and fruit department was quick to help my poor, pathetic soul and was super friendly about my incompetence. They also opened another line for me so I didn’t have to wait! I usually go in here for work purposes only but after today I’d do my own grocery shopping here again!

Okay Pie Holers! This is a cautionary tale, which should be shared with anyone who is employed in customer service. So… What could piqué Your Captain so much, he would feel compelled to unleash the dreaded ONESTAR on a store belonging to a chain which he generally thinks highly of? It’s a Save Mart for crying out loud! So whats the big Whoop? Four words. CUSTOMERSERVICECLUSTER F***. Your Captain spent 25 years working in customer service, in the automotive repair field, in dealerships, where he had garnered recognition on the national level for excellence. Thank the Powers, I am now retired, as I wouldn’t wish that job on a dog. I like dogs. This outrage unfolded early on a weekday afternoon. I had a schedule to keep, because I was combining shopping for last minute items with a legal appointment. I discovered some great deals on frozen items, and grabbed a bunch along with the essentials on my list, and made for the checkstands. I noted with satisfaction this crew seemed to be on the ball concerning the«Three’s a Crowd» policy. When one check stand had a fourth customer in line, the cashier grabbed the phone and announced on the PA system… «Three’s a Crowd! Within 30 seconds flat, an associate opened a fourth checkstand, and all was right with Save Mart and The Captain, if not the rest of the world. I chose the one closest to me and noted, it was run by an attractive young lady, who wore a big badge which stated her name, as well as her title, «Head Cashier», and thought I could now relax a little. This is where things went inexorably down hill. She was taking care of a Vietnamese lady who was paying for her order with foodstamps. The second customer was a fellow about my age who had only a few items. I brought up the rear with a mountain of frozen stuff piled on the conveyer, and relaxed a bit more… And relaxed… Checked my watch, and relaxed some more for about 5 minutes. Then the fellow in front of me turned, locked eyes with mine, and rolled his. I rolled mine back in a silent acknowledgement of our growing impatience, and after five more minutes had elapsed, we both tried to get the attention of the«Head Cashier» by sighing and«tsk» ing in the hopes she would pause helping the lady with the special needs just long enought to acknowledge our plight, and make arrangements for another cashier to help us. She avoided eye contacting either of us with a stubborness only the rawest trainee finding herself deep in the weeds, could have managed. This is typical where a poorly trained server, handling a customer with unusual needs, will wish away other waiting customers whose patience is wearing thin, by simply refusing to acknowledge they are there. I call it «Being The Ostrich» Finally after fifteen minutes… Yes, I timed it while watching droves of customers flow through the other checkstands. The young lady was still struggling to finish up with the same lady, and it didn’t look like she would anytime soon. The only success she seemed to be having, was in ignoring me and my equally upset fellow customer. As puddles formed around my mountain of now, semi frozen items, I was out of time and patience. I said«AHEM! Young lady, you’d best have this stuff restocked before it finishes melting. I am simply out of time.» I walked towards the door flashing her a glance which caused her to blurt, «It’s not my fault!» I hissed back, «Oh yes it is.» Reaching my car, I realized I had been so angry, I left my shopping list behind. Smarting with the further delay, and the embarassment of having to return, I made the trek back inside, noting another 3 minutes had elapsed. The«Head Cashier» was still helping the orignal lady, and the other poor wretch was still waiting, and being ignored. I grabbed my board and fled, having no more time. Period. If the Manager who promoted this bubble head ever reads this, he/she should have no trouble identifying the miscreant. And, if they are a Manager of at least lukewarm ability at all, they will read it. After all we Unilocalers are now more than a million strong. If businesses mistreat and ignore customers, they do so now at their own peril. I can’t think much of the Manager at that store. After all he/she was the one who«trained» and promoted«Head Cashier»! This place is cheap, but most of their products are junk food. I come here for deals on meat, chips and basics like milk, sandwich meat, bread. Their produce is limited but they have enough. Once they ran out of asparagus and looked at me as if I was a retard for being unable to find it. Other than that, they are really nice here. They are open to midnight and there’s plenty of parking in the dark lot. I thought Savemart was more ghetto but realized from the mail ads that they are the same thing as LUCKY’S! Same ads, same deals, just less fancy and clean.

Sale items are great prices. The selection is bare. Nothing warm to eat either. It can’t compare to the Safeway’s of the area, but it’ll do fine for your regular grocery needs.

Was on my way to a friends a couple of days ago and I wanted to by some canned coffee and I saw the«Save Mart» sign so I decided to stop there and see if they had«Café Francis» canned coffee. I had no idea that this was actually a grocery store I thought it was more like a Long’s or Walgreen’s. Store was small, clean and had what i was looking for. Small customer service counter in front and there was actually an employee at the counter. This is a quaint little store and was very empty when I arrived. They can improve on moving those big yellow janitorial signs that are used to warn people of a wet floor«mojado» that are sitting inside the store cock eyed by both entrance/exit doors. These yellow warning signs are jammed up against the doors crammed behind some big cardboard donation barrels. This unsightly display is exactly that, an unsightly display.

If i lived closer to Savemart, I’d choose it over Safeway. The people here are so friendly aaaand NOSAVEMARTSAVINGCARDS WOO-like you can actually buy things on sale without using a stupid card! I had a really good experience there this morning actually. I was buying a cake for a friend and wasn’t sure which to get. I was walking around the bakery area, and one bakery lady smiled at me. So nice. Then the other bakery lady offered me a free sample of the custard cake-which turned out to be delicious. I actually ended up buying it for my friend! She loved it and so did everyone else. So anyway five stars for the bakery ladies in the morning. Woot woot! Anyway. I also like how they circle on your receipt how much you saved. And there’s also a percentage of savings too. It’s nice. The cashier asked me if I needed ice… kind of randon if you ask me. especially at 8:30AM. Anything bad about this place? Hrrmm. well it’s not super nice looking like Safeway. But other than the look that’s about it. Yay Save Mart!

This place is OK went in just to see if it has change since I last been here witch was when my son was going to St john down the street. that was like way back when it’s been that long. Well it’s still the same like your typical savemart. Maybe I am so used to going to the Safeway down the street. Well I ended up buying a bag of mothers cookies witch was great !! they were on sale too. I am glad that savemart is still around. good job savemart.

Bring a reusable bag to the store and receive FIVECENTS off your bill! My family shops at this Save Mart once in a while if meat and produce are on sale. The previously frozen beef ribs are always delicious. They were a steal at $.69/pound. Yum! In addition, we’ve found weekend specials by looking at the San Jose Mercury News. Last weekend, they had a sale for yellow bell peppers at $.50 each.
