I love this place, but it’s closed(probably due to hard-to-find location). Hey if you are the owner/chef and opening a new place somewhere else, please let us know!

3 for $ 20 is a good deal. great prices and tasty. 1 person running the front and 1 in the back — he is very efficient. tried fish in wine sauce(nice, light), pork rump(huge portion), wuxi ribs(1 didn’t get heated all the way and a bit dry), si gua(melon, seemed a little too soft but again sauce is good), crystal river shrimp(good texture).

A very nice surprise in our neighborhood! We wouldn’t have discovered this place if we hadn’t seen their hand painted sign at the intersection of Dixon Landing and Milpitas Blvd: D Very affordable price and really really delicious dishes($ 5.95 a dish is quite rare in the south bay)…and did I mention the quality of food is good? Friendly waiter and speedy services! The reason that I took a star off is that the utensils & plates are a bit greasy, need to be a bit more tidy… and the light is a bit too bright. Given the tasty food, I can put up with the two minor dissatisfactory factors.

As we were in the neighborhood, we decided to check this place out – we ended up being the only folks present for our entire meal(a late dinner). The server was a friendly chap. ***走油蹄膀 [JINJIANGPORKRUMP] This seems to be the house specialty – there were several Saran-wrapped bowls of it sitting on the main counter(which we were assured had been freshly prepared and were still warm). A big lump of meat wrapped by a thick layer of rich collagen(stewed skin), with leg bones running through the center and poking out the top like competing steeples, all resting in a pool of sweet stew juice and flanked by strategically positioned bok choy. The skin was rich and fatty, as collagen often is. The meat near the edges was semi-tender, but as you worked toward the center, it became less so. They say that if it’s prepared properly, you should be able to grab the bones and pull it apart with ease. Although this seemed to be generally true with our dish, the interior wasn’t as delightfully fatty or yummy as I’d hoped. The bok choy offered a nice respite from the meat, and the sweet & mild sauce, with the consistency of broth, was absolutely perfect for soaking up with rice. The rice was standard, though it seemed to have little mushy patches here & there. ***小笼包 [SHANGHAISTYLESTEAMEDDUMPLINGS] As 小笼包 have always been my favorite Chinese offering, I’ve invested a bit of myself into contemplating their design. With this intro, I declare that these were quite underwhelming. You could tell when the basket was opened that these weren’t the super intricate, high quality variety. The wrappers were a bit sloppy, a few of them leaking the precious soup. Or so I thought – the soup, which is supposed to be golden elixir, ended up tasting like cheapo runoff. Unfortunately the filling felt like it came from the same unholy & low-grade source. Frankly, I was a doubter from the beginning on this one, and my skepticism was rewarded. ***糖醋排骨 [SWEET&SOURSPARERIBS] This was pretty authentic and tasted almost exactly as I expected. This is the real Chinese sweet & sour, not that ketchupy glaze slop peddled to gringos. The sugar balances the 浙醋. The failing here was the spareribs – these didn’t have a lot of meat on them and weren’t fatty enough. Still, they weren’t awful. ALLINALL: The food ranged from decently yummy to mediocre to slightly disappointing. Grateful for the experience, but I don’t plan to return in the foreseeable future.

My family was in town and we were craving for Shanghainese food. My mom was raised in Shanghai so had high expectations. The Xiao Lung Bao were perfect! The skin was thin and the juice inside a plenty! The potstickers the same. We will definitely be going back!

This place is amazing First of all the xiao long bao made my taste buds spin The tofu was amazing it slithered around inside of my mouth. Their pork rump is possibly the best pork I had ever tasted the meat was tender and juicy, the flavor was right down to the bone and I wish there was still more but sadly I finished all of it. Their service is amazing, one of the employees even served us the pork rump and we didn’t even ask Overall:nicest service, good portion size, and great food. I highly recommend their Pork Rump, if you come here and don’t get it you are missing out on one of the best tasting dishes you will ever taste

Came in for a Sunday lunch. Ordered beef noodle soup, stir fry noodles, Shanghai dumplings, and potstickers. What an awful and dangerous situation! The noodles were so overcooked that they were broken into bits. The potstickers were half cooked and had to send back. The only saving grace was the Shanghai dumplings, which were delicious, however that wouldn’t be enough reason to return.

Terrible. Every dish was either bland or overly salty. There was not one dish that my family enjoyed. There are better options around. But here’s the best part. Midway through our meal, we heard a bunch of commotion in the kitchen. The owner/waiter was yelling and arguing with the chef. 10 minutes later, the chef storms out with the owner running after him! Food stops coming out obviously for a good 15 – 20 minutes. It’s a good thing we had most of our food out already or I’d be hangry(hungry and angry), which the other tables around us looked since they didn’t even have one dish out. They both eventually came back, but they forgot about the rest of our food. We canceled, paid and left. It would have been nice if they apologized or acknowledged the disturbance, but they didn’t. And they also encouraged not to order 3 orders of xiao long bao in the beginning. In fact he made us change it to 2 orders. I won’t be back.

The owner was one of the nicest hosts I have ever met. He talked a lot to us and gave us tips on what was good on the menu and how to use chopsticks on certain plates, which was fine by me and my family but might not be something you’re looking for if you want to eat in peace. Still, the food was pretty good and the host was nice enough to help accommodate to my and my mother’s vegetarianism. If you’ve never had authentic Shanghainese, be prepared; it can be a little on the bland side. There is soy sauce, if you need to add some flavor to it, though. Otherwise, the food is good. I highly recommend the pumpkin pancake(it’s very sweet and so delicious) and my omnivore friend and sibling absolutely loved the Shanghai style steamed dumpling. All in all, it was decent Shanghainese food and had great service. I recommend!

Under new ownership once again. Highlights here are definitely served on the weekend aka dim sum/chinese breakfast type eats. Such as fresh soy bean milk(sweet and salty), chinese donuts aka youtiao, chive boxes, green onion pancakes, and xiao long bao all made in house(I think?). Only place that I have had that rivals the quality and freshness here would be… my grandmother’s house hahaha. And that is saying A LOT.

The end of the world must be nearing if I’ve discovered a worthy Chinese restaurant within the slums of Milpstinkus. You know a Chinese place has to be good if the only people dining in during a busy lunch period are all only old Chinese folks! Came here out of whim with a friend for lunch. Now normally, I tend to stay clear of Chinese food for obvious reasons. But to our surprise, the dishes here weren’t doused in oil or salt nor were they too unbearably heavy(Final fantasy victory theme plays). We ordered and shared the mongolian beef and salt and pepper pork lunch specials(which include rice and soup) and the shanghai steamed dumplings(highly recommended by our server). Mongolion beef was delicious! Tender beef that wasn’t skimped out like it’s many nearby competitors do. Salt and pepper pork was fried to a perfect crisp and miraculous not oily at all. The dumplings came piping hot and were a nice change from our main courses. The only thing that wasn’t great was the soup served with the lunch special — sweet and sour, I’m assuming. Service is actually quite nice for an Asian run joint. Not to mention the menu is large and very explore-worthy…will be back. :D

Shanghai Jin Jiang had only 3 tables occupied plus 2 takeouts the whole time i was there. not surprising since Village House in the enjoining mall is packing them in(large portions, cheap pricing) Shanghai isn’t just shanghainese food, it also has Zhejiang cuisine on the regular menu. the 3 for menu is mostly standard northern dishes. eats: –xlb(5.95) great! sweet juice, small amount of tasty meat inside. –braised beef noodle soup(6.95) beef/msg flavored broth chopped up beef stew/tendons, meat wasn’t braised wrong item given? looked like 5.95 beef noodle soup –wooxi spareribs(9.95) mild disappointment. not made the traditional way(no one does these days) mostly sweet sauce covering semi-tender pork meat on bones(alas beef brisket) not melt in ur mouth, some tartness in inner meats different kind of vinegar used. notes: –disappointed by 2 entrees –many entrees pricey. regional chinese items –not sure where the gems are –large menu, not all entrees can be done right.

The owner warned us that most Chinese restaurants serve Szechuan style food, whereas his menu is a bit different(I believe he said it was Zhejiang cuisine, but don’t quote me). The flavors were on the mellow side, which made me sit up and pay more attention to the subtle undertones. The Seafood with Tofu in Clay Pot was too much tofu with very little seafood. I wouldn’t order this one again. The Jin Jiang Chicken in Wine Sauce was another story. They weren’t sure a pair of gringos would like this dish, «yellow chicken,» which eats whatever, is used. They assured us that we only eat grain fed chicken so may not like the difference in taste. In addition, the wine sauce is made from a wine native to the owner’s village. It was heavy with yeast and absolutely delicious. The chicken was tender but I just wanted a bowl of the sauce and a loaf of bread. I really wish I could remember the name of the rice he suggested! It was mild but excellent, with tiny bits of pork fat. Although the owner made a lot of assumptions about our taste buds, he quickly learned that white people can enjoy real Chinese food too.

Things change in this space super fast. Was just at Big Forest not too long ago and now it’s a Shanghai joint. before that dumplings and before that phở? Maybe SJJG will buck the curse. The guy working the front of the house is very friendly, unlike most average Chinese resto servers. Got the egg with prawn, shanghai pan fried noodles, and the biscuit with chives. Everything was really tasty. They have a deal of 60 or so items that you can get 3 for 19.99 to go. Thats a lot of variety. Too bad I was already looking for something specific. Based on those dishes Im ready to head back and try more of their fare. Just hope they’re still there when I return!
