Bought a dozen of burnt baos. Sucks. Now I have to throw them away so I don’t embarrass myself in front of my friends.

Craving fast food dim sum breakfast and ended up at New Hwong. Open early, takes card and decent-ok dim sum. I order the siu mai and chive fried dumpling. The siu mai was nice and hot! The chive dumpling had obviously been sitting out for a bit. Was able to grab some buns from the fridge to take home. Would come back again!

Fast food dimsum. Most are pick up or togo orders. Like the places in chinatown fast food chinese style cheap and fast. They are a wholesale/catering source for many churches and restaurants. They have a retail business with 2 locations. The fremont location doesn’t have a sit down place to eat. They have frozen/fresh dimsum and other food items like pooridge. Very good deal; about ½ price of restaurant

This is a hole in the wall but the food is bomb! Shrimp dumplings — BOMB Shumai — BOMB Pork Buns — SOGGY They have a little bit of a hard time understanding English but we worked through it. It’s a place where you take the food«To GO!»

Came here twice — the first time the food was decent but I was sketched out by the sticky furniture and luke warm serving temperatures. The second time I’m throwing up violently 8 hours later. I don’t think I can eat dim sum again for a while…

Just an update — alas, seems that some of their prices have gone up. Example: 3 steamed BBQ buns are now $ 3.20. Still solid at a little over a buck a piece, but not as awesome of a deal as before. Wanted to give ya’ll a heads up before you get the semi-sticker shock on your next trip!

With dim sum, you always win some. My family has been coming here for buns and dim sum items for years! Most orders, which consists of three pieces, are $ 2.80. What a steal! We usually order: — Veggie-meat buns — Cha siu buns — Leek dumplings — Chicken feet — Fried taro — Siu mai Egg tarts are $ 1, which is the cheapest I’ve seen in a while! A whole daikon cake is $ 7. This is perfect if you have time to make it at home. 9 veggie-meat buns, 6 egg tarts, and 2 orders of chicken feet came out to be $ 20. Not too shabby! CASHONLY, so bring your dollar dollar bills, y’all!

Wow, I can’t believe I came here twice. The food here is not that great and the restaurant is so dirty! The tables and chairs are sticky and I felt uncomfortable just being in there. I wanted to give it a second try cause I love dim sum but I can’t come back. The second time I went and got 3 shrimp dumplings, but 1 of them was just the skin with no shrimp!!! Save your money and go to a decent, clean dim sum place. This place isn’t even that cheap for dim sum either!

Don’t expect the service. The ladies are great if you know what you want. It’s the culture here. A dozen of fresh baked eggtarts. After eating one, I pretty sure I don’t have to drive to SF Chinatown golden gate bakery anymore.

We found a piece of a plastic bag or cellophane in our pork buns and floss or some sort of nylon string in our egg tart. We are not coming here again.

Quick and inexpensive fast food dim sum. I usually only get the soy sauce noodles(it’s a good portion) but have had the lunch special too which is alright: congee, various dim sum pieces. This place is a good option for a swift, simple dim sum lunch that will fill you up but not break the bank.

From a long drive home from Napa, we decided to stop at this Dim Sum place in which word had it that it was delicious. New Hwong Kok is a small hole in the wall Dim Sim food establishment in which you can dine in or order to go. We walk in at around 7:30pm an hour before closing. It was hard ordering because most of the stuff we wanted to order were no longer available. Especially the egg tart(apparently those are very popular on Mother’s day). We ended up ordering $ 60 worth of Dim Sum! WHOA. honestly, I would tell you what we ordered but I NEVER know what each dim sum is called. Whatever one has shrimp in it is always the best in my book!

Crispy crust and creamy on the inside… this is what you get in every bite of your own egg tart. Let me tell you that I since I have visited this place(courtesy of Unilocal) I have come back 3 times a week, just to get hold a box of this tart. Not too sweet and bigger than most other bakeries its pretty reasonable for a $ 1 a piece or $ 10 per dozen. I for one get the better deal. I also order the dim sum and the big buns. My favorite is the siu mai which is juicy, solf and very flavorful. Next is the shrimp dumpling and chives dumpling. For less than a $ 3 per order, no one can beat that. The lunch menu of $ 6.50 is a very good deal too! Your selection of porride(peanut, port and egg, and fish fillet) plus dimsums and a bun or chowmain or turnip cakes are some of the choices you’ll have to sink your teeth into. We tried the lunch #1 and I shared it with my hubby. We didnt finish our food and we had to take it home with us. I just love it! Expect a long line out the door. When we visited yesterday(Saturday) morning, around 9 am, there are 3 people in line. When we finished our food the line reached the door and people kept coming in! The place is not as clean or well decorated but they make up for the good food. Love it!

Today’s service was a little slow, but I got what I wanted which was a lotus wrapped sticky rice. I was a little shocked by the price($ 3.04), but it was filling and quite tasty. What was a surprise was the small piece of chinese sausage. Quite a filling little meal. I will come back again for this little morsel of a meat rice pocket.

Great takeout dimsum place. Taste is on point! It still cant beat a regular sitdown dimsum place but its pretty close and its hella fast. The only cons are that its not as hot/fresh. Also the shrimp«crêpe»(chang fen) is really thick for some odd reason… Usually its thin and you get 3 pieces per order and each piece has three shrimps. This was just one big piece and it was thick as hell like all 3 pieces were layered on or something. Thats prbably the only thing I wouldnt really get again. You can also get chinese bread. Its mad cheap like 3 for $ 1.6. Keep in mind again that it aint super fresh and probably not as good as a bakery but you really cant beat the price. Overall, Id def come here again to satisfy my dimsum cravings. Best part is they have it all day so you dont even gotta wake up early or you can eat dimsum for dinner lol

This is a review for their bread! I’ve never had their dim sum before. Anyway, I really like their green onion bread, although I didn’t see it on the menu. They are HUGE, and each is $ 1.40. They only take credit card over $ 10! The bread is pretty fluffy, although some parts are a little mushier/less fluffy than the rest, bordering soggy. The onion should be better distributed; when I ate it, some parts were really sweet(presumably from whatever sweet glaze they put on top of the bread) and some parts were really savory from the green onion. Anyway, it’s a good breakfast or a good snack. My family has gotten their green onion bread occasionally from here throughout the years.

Got the standard dim sum dishes here(ha gow, siu mai, chicken feet, steamed bbq pork buns, ha cherng fun, liu sa bao, among a few others). Everything here was delicious and I didn’t experience any of the bad service that folks on Unilocal complained about. My guess is that they had expectations that weren’t appropriate for this type of restaurant — it’s your typical dim sum experience. Parking is a pain in the butt, definitely come early if you can or risk dealing with a crowded parking lot and waiting in the car for a spot.

My local go-to place I used to go to for dim sum(Kim Lee Fast Food) shut down so I was rather devastated and did not know how I would fulfill these cravings without having to go to so far. Did research on Unilocal and found this place… how did I not know about it before?! Checked the place out at around 4pm on a Sunday evening. Shocked to see a huge line. The place looked like any other to-go dim sum spot you’d hit up… dirty but whatever. Service was OK but then again you don’t expect much from these kind of places. A lot of choices for dim sum. I’m used to all dim sum spots being sold out of all the good stuff by 3pm when I lived in San Francisco, but they seemed to have plenty of everything. I look forward to trying out all the other items in the future. I ordered 1 order of shrimp dumplings(aka«har gow», and 1 order = 3 pieces) and turnip cake(3 large blocks). 3 pieces were $ 2.60 which I found rather pricey… almost $ 1 for each piece, but figured it’d be the same if I drove to a cheaper place as gas would come into the factor. I ate my food at one of the very few tables inside, and found that the turnip cake was cold. Not sure if it’s supposed to be cold? I’ve usually eaten it warm. I would have gave this place a decent 3 stars as now I’ve found my place to fulfill my dim sum cravings, but as I was digging into my turnip cake, I saw one of the workers who was stocking the fridges with packaged pork buns drop one on the ground, pick it right back up, put it back in the bag, and back into the fridge… which someone will eventually buy!!! GROSS!!! As a germaphobe, THISIS A BIGNONO! How do I know if the dumplings I was eating could have been dropped on the floor as well??? Goes to show you can’t trust the food you eat but whatever… just as the pork bun fell out of that bag and onto the ground, so did one of my stars for my rating for this place.

This mostly take-out dim sum place is open again! We took one of our elderly relatives here by accident. She thought this was a real tea house, but it’s not. It’s a hole-in-the wall, kinda industrial in a real industrial way(think Chinatown factory) sort of place. They have two small tables, but they’re not well equipped for eat-in. They don’t even have regular tea, only boba and sugary tea drinks. Fortunately, they had bottled water for our two diabetic seniors. :) There was a long line of folks ordering food. They speak some English, mostly Cantonese, some Mandarin, and one lady even spoke Vietnamese! A lot of things were on display, so you could definitely just point and nod at what you wanted. It was fresh, but they ran out of some stuff. The food seems authentic and the quality is «a-OK», especially for the ridiculously low price. All 5 of us ate for about $ 25. Selection is not that great, but they did have the«favorites». The siu mai(pork and shrimp dumplings) were okay in terms of taste and texture, but I’ve definitely had better. The radish cake was pretty authentic. It had little bits of dried meat in it, giving it more flavor. They even got a decent char on the outside. Chive dumplings were fine, just as expected. I didn’t get a photo of the har gow(shrimp dumplings). They were fresh and had a lot of shrimp, but there was a grittiness that I didn’t like. Perhaps from white pepper? They were sold out of steamed char siu bao(BBQ pork buns). We got a small order of chow fun(flat rice noodle stir-fry). This dish was made with chive pieces, but meatless. It had great wok-fried flavor and it was greasy, but pretty tasty even though it didn’t have meat. One of their really good items were the dahn taht(egg custard tarts) for dessert. They had a crispy, flaky shell and the custard was not too sweet… just right. I highly recommend these. The gai lan(Chinese broccoli) with oyster sauce was also good. These are freshly steamed, so it will take a few minutes for them to prepare it. Overall, a good, low-cost place for take-out dim sum. Drinks(soda and Costco bottled water) were $ 1 each and we ate out of Styrofoam containers with flimsy plastic utensils, so I don’t recommend it for eat-in. Also, you’ll be really thristy afterwards. They use MSG.

Great take out dim sum place if you want the dim sum but not the whole dining setup. As the other reviewed said, there can be a line, but it does move pretty fast. They sell their special big buns(da bao). Its like an entire meal in a bun. cutting it open, you find seansoned pork, Chinese sausage, an entire egg, green onion, celery, cabbage and mushrooms. You can get 3 for $ 5, which is a pretty economical meal. I got one steamed to eat and took 2 from the fridge home for another day. I also got a dozen of their egg tarts, they were buttery, with a crispy crust and lovely sweet custard. At $ 10 for 12, it’s a pretty good deal. My friend still insists that golden gate bakery is better, but as I am 0 for 2 on getting there when they are open, the New Hwong Kok’s egg tarts are great for me.
