Went there last Sunday for our usual dinner. Sign was changed, we were shocked! So sad but the owners sold the place. I’ll miss the food and the service. This place was our go to for dinner for almost a year. Hope the owners got a good price for the place.

Really unique and authentic Shanghai food. Incredible dishes that you can’t get anywhere else. Had five great dishes here, will come back!

They forgot one of our orders and the waitress never stopped by at the table after the food was served. The quality/flavor was at best mediocre.

Great Shanghainese food! I am a native Shanghainese. This is definitely one of the best Shanghainese restaurant in the bay!

I have been meaning to review this place for months now. This restaurant is literally our second kitchen– we come here at least every 2 weeks for a homecooked-style meal when we don’t feel like cooking. Found this gem after eating at other Shanghainese places in the area and never have gone elsewhere. The owner and his wife are always smiling and positive when they wait our table! Food is pretty consistent every time(we’ve gone here for months now) with a few ups and downs, but never have experienced eating something really bad where we had to return it. We even had them cater our church Christmas party– everyone raved about the food! Needless to say, we will keep coming back as long as we live here!

The stinky smell in milpitas is getting worse! We came here for some Shanghai cuisine and ended up ordering too much for 4 person. I like the 三鲜鱼面筋 and 红烧肉。 the douban fish is just okay. In general I cannot remember any outstanding dish here. The place near home is better.

I get tired of Chinese food. All day, everyday. But this place is an exception that I’ll take whenever my family comes. If you order the right food Chinese food isn’t that bad. I recommend ordering the fish ball dish and the sticky rice with pork belly. Second thoughts on Chinese food after this place.

I am Shanghainese. This is Shanghainese food. The employees are also Shanghainese. It works. Food is on point, authentic as Shanghainese food can be. Reminds me of my Shanghainese grandma’s cooking. It just works. Explosive dumplings, check. Fish special dumplings, check. Sticky rice, check. Everything works.

I had high hopes for this place due to its pretty pictures all over the wal. Unfortunately, I was wrong! Service was typical as you would expect from most Asian restaurants. Our party ordered their«siao long bao», tofu wrapping, meatball fish ball noodle soup, beef stir fry, drunken chicken. The flavors for most part were alright with MSG of course. What disappointed me was how little meat the drunken chicken had, literally all bones. And the beef stir fry had so much tenderizer that it didn’t even taste like meat anymore. Rest of the dishes were equally bad. If only the pictures on the wall matched the food served…

So interior was creative and had a homely feel to it but the food here was disgusting. The service was really bad too even though we were the only ones in the restaurant. They didn’t give us anything to drink and we waited like 15 minutes before they decided to help us. The menu had like pictures for everything on the menu and a lot of it did not look good or we did not want a whole fish. We ordered shredded pork and scallop and eggs. The egg dish was disgusting and it was sour. While the shredded pork was a little better but still was hard to eat. My boyfriend didn’t like the shredded pork and he thought it was sour. So we both didn’t like both the dishes so we will never come here again and recommend people to never come here to eat.

My all time favorite chinese restaurant! The two ladies who run it are super welcoming and the food is beyond fantastic. I always get the Shanghai Chow Mein, Rice Cakes(without the meat), Spare Ribs and Green Onion Pancakes and god damn they never disappoint. We also always order the Sweet Wine Rice Ball soup for dessert and they always give us a little extra because they know how much I love it. It makes my entire night because that soup is the sweetest I’ve ever tasted. The prices are crazy low for how much food you get. We always spend under $ 25-$ 30 for 2 people. I just love this place so much.

Location: Fremont, CA in a plaza with Asian market and stores. Setting: informal and friendly. Food: traditional Shanghainese with many classical dishes. You may not be able to find those little dishes nowadays in big Shanghai. Parking: big shared parking lot. But it could be little tough during the weekdays lunch and weekends dinner.

Meh. I’ve had better. Thanks to Unilocal,I found out that this new spot opened up. According to a different review, it’s under new management. Service was friendly enough but with only one person working with several tables, it was a challenge to get their attention. Here’s what we had: Beef with dried cumin– This was my favorite because everything else was kind of bland. There was more onions and peppers than beef, but the beef was good. Green Onion Panacake: It had no flavor. It needed salt and was better after we added some. The texture was good, though. Shanghai Chow Mein– I liked the chewiness of the noodles. However, it lacked flavor like the green onion pancake. XLB– We were served these dumplings without spoons. We didn’t need them anyway because there wasn’t that much soup inside. Again, just okay, lacked flavor. Overall, we were underwhelmed by the food and will not be back.

This location is under new management yet again. The service and owner were very friendly and served us quickly. The menu has a modern and fresh look to it, all with professional pictures. All of our dishes came within 5 minutes of ordering, as if they’d been ready half-cooked and waiting. Noticed some cleanliness issues though! Tea cups had spots on them and the spoon for the dessert soup had a brown piece of something still stuck to it. We order cured pork zhan jiang style(5.95 $, #A7 on menu), fish fillet w/chinese spinach(9.95 $, #B18), vegetable & salted pork rice(5.95 $, #J39) and preserved vegetable w/rice noodle(7.95 $, #G8). All the portions were quite generous and presentation wasn’t anything special. Cured pork was ok, kind of stale though. The plate that the pork came on had lots of chips on the sides. The rice noodles in the preserved vegetable dish had not been soaked in water long enough prior to cooking, so they were hard and sticky. Flavor overall was rather bland and uninteresting. We hardly ate much and took most of it home. It’s going to be a struggle to finish these left overs!

Unpretentious restaurant with good home-style Shanghaiese food. My family and I went to Shanghai Kitchen for dinner last night after spending the afternoon in the Milpitas/Fremont area. Shanghai Kitchen shares the same shopping plaza as Lion City Supermarket, TK Noodle, and Chi. It occupies the same spot as Melin House did. You can’t miss it since there is a pretty large banner hung outside the restaurant. We arrived just after 7:00pm. The restaurant was more than half full. The waitress greeted us and we were seated immediately. The restaurant looked very clean. The wall mural of different dishes was colorful and impressive. One of the servers brought us menus along with tea and a small plate of peanuts topped with dry seaweed. After a few minutes of perusing the menu, we decided to get the following: — Fish Fillet with Wine Sauce — Braised Pork Meatballs(Lion’s Head) — Three Cup Chicken — Scrambled Egg with Tomato — Stir-Fried Shredded Pork with Sliced Bean Curd and Bamboo Shoots — Spicy Water-Boiled Beef Fish Fillet with Wine Sauce: it was decent. Large pieces of black wood ear mushroom and fish fillet were used. Ingredients were fresh. The only thing I didn’t like was the weak wine sauce. 3.5 stars out of 5. Braised Pork Meatballs: they were served in a brown sauce. The meatballs were a little dry in my opinion. The taste reminded me of potsticker pork filling. 3 stars out of 5. Three Cup Chicken: the dish was quite good. The chicken pieces absorbed all the soy sauce, sesame oil, and cooking wine and the dish came out like it’s supposed to be. The flavors were well balanced. Watch out for the small bone fragments though. 4 stars out of 5. Scrambled Eggs with Tomato: The scrambled eggs were seasoned well and the tomato pieces had a nice sweetness to them. Slightly overcooked which cost them a star. 4 stars out of 5. Stir-Fried Shredded Pork with Sliced Bean Curd and Bamboo Shoots: very average in my opinion. Personally I’d like a little bit more seasoning in this dish. 3 stars out of 5. Spicy Water-Boiled Beef: beef slices were tender. The bed of Napa cabbage and glass noodles soaked up all the«spicy water». Not super authentic, but quite enjoyable nonetheless. 4 stars out of 5. The service was decent. Although the two friendly Shanghaiese ladies had to cover 12 tables so they were a little busy, they still came by to check on us from time to time. The entire meal only cost $ 54(with T/T). Pretty good value in my opinion. I will definitely go back again. BONUSMATERIAL: — Besides their regular menu, they also have a «Chinese» menu(3 dishes for $ 19.99). — Rice is $ 1 per person. — Certain Shanghaiese dim sum dishes are only available on weekends. — The restaurant is pretty small. Not a great place for parties of eight or more.

My father-in-law is from Shanghai. He loves Shanghai cuisine. I think it is telling that in the past two weeks that he’s stayed with us, we have been here maybe four or five times. He has found a new favorite. Flavors are delicate, not too heavy or salty. Prices are good. Décor is classy. Yes, I know, you’re thinking this is a generic review. Well, I’m calling it like it is — good food, good service, good prices. My father-in-law knows his Chinese food. Plus I don’t know the names of the dishes off-hand, so you’ll just have to try them all.

How did this place get $$$? It’s $$ at most. Really good sweet and sour spareribs, probably the best in the Bay Area. Very authentic Shanghai. The Shanghai stir fry and ground pork filled tofu skin aren’t bad either.

Shanghai Kitchen looks upscale yet austere. interior structurally the same as over the years. eats: –xiao lung bao(8/6.95) very hot soup inside, tender fillings –tian jian bao(6/5.95) bun not so crispy, texture doughy, meat inside partially fatty, 2 stars –braised beef noodle soup(7.95) fresh thin noodles, tender beef chucks, soy sauce broth? –drunken chicken(6.95) wine soaked free range chicken most flavor in the skin, which i skipped. 3.5 star takeouts –laminated menu with lots of pictures –some dishes on target, some misses. inconsistent food, so 3 stars. so so value. 4⁄5: xlb too much msg, food not so impressive today.

I came here expecting Melin House and found a new resto open for only 3 days. Like it’s previous incarnation, it obviously focuses on Shanghai style food. Got the tea smoked duck, tofu with shrimp in salted egg sauce, and deep fried flounder filet with chilis and onion. All really solid. The employees are very friendly and recommended some dishes due to a friends gluten allergy. Definitely coming back with a larger group to try the vast menu they have. 4.3 stars
