Just happened to drive by this place after shopping with my vegetArian friend. It small, quaint, clean. I ordered the portobello burger and it was yummy! It was done well so that the bun didn’t get soggy. It also had the right amount of caramelized onions. I definitely would try something different next time. Oh and when you ask for water, you have to specify«ice water». We got room temp water. Also, it would have been nice if someone had come to check up on us at least once. I’ll give them a pass though coz it seems that the waiter was also the cashier and he was also bussing the tables.

I’m a «sometimes vegan,» and The Green Barn(formerly Vege House) is my go to veggie restaurant. Their menu is large for being a vegan restaurant, and is heavily Asian influenced although it has Western offerings as well. The interior is modern and tastefully decorated. Everything is clean and comfortable. The employees are friendly, welcoming, and go out of their way to make you feel valued and appreciated. Last week, I phoned in a take-out order for spicy fried rice and a Thai tea. Before I went to pick it up, two of my family members wanted to have lunch with me at the restaurant. My order was ready when we arrived. However, because we were dining in the restaurant, the staff remade my spicy fried rice(and even offered to let me change my order) because they wanted it to be warm and fresh when I ate with my family. My favorite picks at The Green Barn are: spicy noodle soup, fried wontons(appetizer), spicy fried rice, and Thai Iced Tea. I also enjoy their hamburger and smoothies.

Very friend service. I came here for a birthday dinner and everything was delicious! The rice pot and green beans stood out the most for me.

Do not come here if you want to wait 50mins for nothing!!! Super slow service. When I came in, there were only 2 tables in the entire store!!! And I waited 50 mins for padthai! and when I was writing this review. It’s not even here yet!!! Watching people walked in later than me and walked out with food. You kidding me?!

We had avacado smoothy and pad thai and papaya salad. Very fresh very yummy. I somehow didn’t like the peanut sauce that i ordered on the side. It was too sweet. It felt like it was the ready made peanut sauce. Everything else was pretty tasty and flavorful and fresh! The server was pretty good too. Happy with their service. Last time we had thai curry which had very fresh veggies and okra in the curry tasted really good. We had ordered their special mango salad and i will go back for it again.

I feel so bad for giving the kind folks of this place a hard time! I was in a large group and we each paid separately but they tolerated us and were’t rude about it. The food here is so good too! The curry is a bit thin and watery but everything else I ordered was so good, I don’t care. Would totally come back.

I love the ambience here! Really cute setup. Ample parking at the McCarthy Ranch area. Keep in mind that this is a vegetarian establishment but they can alter some dishes to be vegan. The bun hue is delicious, probably my favorite version compared to similiar places. Their mongolian tofu is also flavorful and mushroom noodle rice claypot are just a couple of my other go to dishes. Avoid the burger though. Family owned so service is very genuine. Make sure you also order yourself a thai ice tea. They serve it in a cute pitcher.

This place is pretty cool. They served all kinds of food. They serve Vietnamese food, Chinese food, American food and Thai food. I do believe that they make only vegetarian food which my boyfriend and I love. I gave this place a 3 because their food did not taste too great. It was not as flavorful as id hope. However, they have fast service. Oh one other thing about the food. Their food came out a bit cold to me. I ordered stir fry strings beans with tofu but it came out a bit cold for some reason. They have another location in Sunnyvale. I think I would have given this place more stars if I had ordered more food but because my boyfriend didn’t have a lot of time to eat we only ordered one item and shared it. I might come back to this place and order other dishes just to see how they cook their food. You should check it out if you’re a vegetarian.

My GF and I came by last night to grab a quick dinner. We were seated right away by a young fellow there. We started to view the menu for about 10 – 12 mins. No one came by to ask us if we were ready to order. No water… Nothing. There also looked to be about 6 – 8 people in the kitchen area. As the time went by we decided to get up and leave. My GF and I use to come to this location a lot too. It use to be called The Green Café and Vege House. Excellent service back then. But now I am not so sure. It felt like we were being ignored in there. Inside, the eating area got a lot smaller also. Tables are so close together. I miss the way it was setup before. Instead, we just went to Mint & Basil also located in Milpitas. Excellent service there as usual and delicious food. Hopefully we can have a better experience if we ever come back. I have been a Milpitas native for 27 years. I made my first Unilocal account to write this review. Sad.

This is one of my favorite vegetarian restaurant. We’ve been coming here since they were still called«green café». The five star is for excellent service and great food. Even though there’s no meat in any of the dishes, the flavor is even better than some of the meat dishes I’ve had at other places. And the staff here are always polite and cheery

The food is great here! I’m not a vegan or vegetarian, but I do Meatless Sundays. When I’m too lazy to cook, restaurants like this one are perfect. I tried the fried tofu, pad thai, clay pot rice, and orange nuggets. The pad thai was spicier than anticipated but overall delicious. Fried tofu was spot on, and the orange nuggets tasted like orange chicken! It was a little too small in my opinion though. My personal fav was the clay pot rice because it was huge and had a mix of rice and clear glass noodles. The place is decorated with chalk walls of cute veggie puns and is very clean. Service was quick on Sunday night and very friendly! Thanks for the great recommendation, Unilocal

Was pretty impressed with this place! Really nice decorations. Although not everything was vegan, MAJORITY of the items were and all of it was labeled. –Shaking«beef» with tomato rice: my favorite. Tasted very similar to the real deal but better. –Orange nuggets: was crispy and saucy. so good if youre looking to satisfy that orange chicken craving. –Maca-mango salad: refreshing. wasnt the shredded green mango salad but has lettuce and mango chunks. it was pretty good and different than anything ive had. the sauce tasted like tamarind. –Thai curry: really tasty! the sauce is more on the liquidy side but i love it.

This was a great find, I bumped into this place while searching for places to eat with a vegetarian friend. It is a cute little restaurant with a nice décor. We ordered kung pao and pad thai, portions were huge. Food was great and the staff was friendly.

The food is as good as it was before it became The Green Barn, and that is to say it was quite good. It’s the service holding it back. This was at lunch; It took a while to get our order taken. My companion and I ordered a tofu appetizer; I ordered the Tom Yum Pot soup, he ordered the Orange Delight. His Orange Delight came first, the the appetizer arrived, and then my Tom Yum Pot. The food was good, but then I had to go ask for the check. I’m not put off from going here, but I have low expectations of the actual service.

Came here because of the good Unilocal reviews. We ordered the spring rolls, mi quang, bbh, and seaweed fried rice. The spring rolls were good and they give you a pretty big portion. I have no comment on the mi quang, because my friend ordered it, but he liked it. The take on BBH was light and okay, I probably wouldn’t order it again. However, the seaweed fried rice was REALLY good! I would totally come back to get that again. The service was good and the place was very cute!

Surprisingly, this place is pretty good. I’m not the most healthy person and I am not a vegetarian! To be honest, I love eating meat, but I would probably go back to this place if I was in the area! The food was pretty good and I felt very healthy eating it – probably the most«healthy» meal I had in a while? The soy meat product didn’t even taste that different from real meat, so I wouldn’t mind eating it again: D Oh, they use cute mason jars for water :) So, we ordered spring rolls($ 6.95), yellow curry($ 11.95), mongolian($ 9.95), and a side of rice($ 1.50) — everything was quite yummy and a little pricey. I think my favorite was the mongolian, it was pretty good for a vegetarian dish! Eh, the yellow curry wasn’t that amazing(I had better!) — it was very watery with weird tasting potatoes LOL. The spring rolls were quite good too! All this was more than enough for two people! We ended up having leftovers. Overall, service was great! The dude(I think he’s the owner or something) was very friendly and described a lot of the dishes for us! He spoke in Vietnamese and English! If you have any questions about the food, just ask him! Also, the interior is nicely decorated and great atmosphere! Plus, there’s outdoor seating too! This place is perfect if you’re a vegetarian or a meat-eater! Definitely worth a try!

Cute place! Me and a friend decided to go here on a whim. We noticed a Vietnamese dish on the wall. we didn’t realize it was vegetarian when we got in. One second(1 – 5 seconds) after we got in, there was a blackout, the generator was off for the whole plaza. But, these people were prepared: they brought out candles & they kept calm, & joked around lightening the mood. That was a first great impression. They called PG&E and soon the generator went back on. But during the black out, a lady asked us if she bring us spring rolls(not going to lie in my head, I thought it might be complimentary). After the black out: My friend An got their curry while I got their Mi Quang and Sweet Potato fries: super good on both of our ends. The fake meat was good. For their curry, you might want to ask for them to bring rice out. Their fries were big and on point. The food wasn’t boring. It’s really cozy here, chalkboard walls with cute vegetable drawings, succulents, and lighter walls with decorations on. They even have a cute money clipboard for the tab to keep consistent with their theme. Although the lady checked up on us prior to us getting our food, I don’t believe our waiter checked on us at all except towards the end for dessert/tab.

We came here on a Saturday afternoon around 2:45PM and there were 3 – 4 tables filled. This establishment has a lot to offer, but still has many kinks to be worked out. They have a large room for improvement. Food — We ordered the papaya salad and spring rolls. The papaya salad was large and fresh. However, the vinaigrette they used was very underwhelming. I most definitely prefer the sauce that comes with the non-vegetarian papaya salad at other Vietnamese restaurants. It tasted a lot better once we added some Sriracha into it. The Spring Rolls seemed a bit pricy for $ 6.95 and majority of it was romaine lettuce. The vegetables were fresh, but most memorable was their peanut sauce. It tasted different compared to other peanut sauces. It was sweeter but I really enjoyed it! Service — This is where things got spotty. When we walked in, the waiter seemed confused on where they should sit us. We sat down and got our menus, and few minutes later we ordered. The food came out quite fast(but I realized none of the food technically had to be cooked). Two different waiters placed food in front of us, but no one bothered to give us utensils. I was trying to get someones attention, but by then I thought maybe utensils were self-served. I asked if it was self-serve, but the nice waiter didn’t understand. Eventually after asking a few times for different utensils and plates, we got everything we needed. We asked for Sriracha, but it seemed like the entire restaurant only had one bottle since they had to take it from another guest. Décor — Nice, hip, & modern. They had a wall that was painted to be allowed chalk writings. Very clean. Overall — The service didn’t affect my rating. I really enjoyed the food and hope to come back soon to try their other dishes. I hope they will improve their operation problems soon and please invest in some more chili sauce! :)

THEGREENBARN The Green Barn is a wonderful Asian vegetarian restaurant in Milpitas. It was formerly called Vege House and Green Café, but has recently reopened as The Green Barn under new management. The interior of the restaurant is very rustic and has a wonderful DIY feel to it. Drinks are served in mason jars, giving it a more homey feel. The food was quite good. I had the lunch special of Fried Tofu with Green Beans with brown rice in a garlic sauce. Very flavorful! The service is very friendly. Great place to go for meat alternatives!
