By far the best mojitos in Milwaukee! My friends and I absolutely love this place. Regardless of which mojito you order, you will not be disappointed. Don’t forget to add plantains because you just can’t go to cubanitas w/o having them!

I placed a to go order. I ordered a Cuban sandwich and the plantains with guacamole. The Cuban was missing the pulled pork and the pickles(the 2 most important things for a Cuban in my opinion) so it was essentially a ham and Swiss sandwich. The guacamole was good but the plantains were overdone and almost burnt. I’ve been here several times and I can say it’s always hit or miss. Really disappointed with this most recent experience.

Drove in from the burbs tonight for a sandwich, some guacamole, some frided plantains, and of course sangria. The people hear are so nice, the owner came over to welcome us and double check on my wife’s food allergies. Thank you for a very nice meal.

Found this place on Unilocal after looking for Cuban restaurants in the Milwaukee area, haven’t had a chance to dine-in yet but I did order some carry out and I must say, everything I had was really good! I ordered a Cuban sandwich, the Black Bean soup and some croquettes — all of which tasted so good. I ordered as soon as the place opened and they had my order ready within 10 minutes, excellent service! I will be back :)

Cubanitas is a good option for when you want to go out downtown and not spend too much. A *filling* dinner for two can easily be under 50 dollars(compared to over 100 at the surrounding restaurants like Carnivore). It was great in college when we wanted to go out after dinner in Cathedral square and not over do it money-wise. I have ordered the Pollo Tropical(chick) and Mango Pork — both are good. But the plantains are the reason I go!!! They have sweet and green — get both. The drinks are sweeter — I wish they were stronger and more dry. Overall, a solid choice if you’re dressed up and on a budget and want to cab it there and go out after.

This review of Cubanitas is for their catering services they provided for our wedding. My husband and I had decided we wanted a vintage cuban/tropical themed wedding. Obviously, the first place that popped into my head was Cubanitas. I contacted Marta and she responded very promptly. Marta was incredibly organized and helpful with every aspect of the process. We did a lot of DIY stuff at our wedding, and she helped the day run so smoothly. We were so happy with the food at our wedding. All of our guests were raving about how good it was.

After a referral from a friend I decided to take a friend here for a later dinner. It was mildly busy once we arrived but we were seated immediately. Between the two of us we tried both the famous mojito and Cuban sandwich that both ended up being good but nothing outstanding. The mojito seemed to taste almost like it was made with sprite, along with the other ingredients, and the Cuban came out as just a sandwich with no sides. The highlight of the meal was the plantain chips and guacamole. The serving size to the appetizer was definitely meant for 4 people but was fresh and delicious! I would go back for drinks and appetizers before a night out but I probably would skip the dinner menu. The atmosphere was lively but it sounded like there was a night club raging above us. I would hope they would turn down the music so people can talk to each other without yelling back and forth.

Both the food and the atmosphere feel authentically Cuban.(My dinner-companion-for-life has spent time in Havana doing research, so I have it on her unbiased personal experience.) ;) I tend to order(and enjoy) their sandwiches, especially the Cubano. They also have special weeks throughout the year when they feature traditional dishes from other Latin American countries. A great opportunity to try other dishes that normally are hard-to-find in the Milwaukee area.

Here’s a scenario for you. Say you owned a Cuban restaurant and 9 items on your menu consisted of sandwiches that needed to be grilled on commercial sandwich press. Say that sandwich press was not operational, and the«crispy, crunchy outside crust associated with a real Cuban sandwich could not happen. How would you do damage control with your customers?(See how smart you are! Of course, you would alert the customer that the machine was not operational, and perhaps suggest an alternate menu item to ensure that the customer was happy.) Unfortunately, that didn’t happen this past weekend when Cubanita’s sandwich press broke down. According to the menu all sandwiches«are pressed in our signature bread fown(yup, that should be «flown»…but it’s misspelled) in from out east daily.» What Cubanita’s served was a soggy piece of french-style bread with all the sandwiches. Def a reason not to come back, OK? Other items that disappointed, dried out yuca fries, croquetas with too much breading, mojo de ajo made from pre-chopped garlic(bitter tasting). However, their mojitos were not bad. The mint was muddled properly. Go for a mojito, and hit another restaurant for dinner!

Cuban sandwich is a must try! Best in town! Majority of the time I come here I typically order the sandwich. The steak and pork dishes are also very good. They also have the best mojitos in town. Any other place I order mojitos I’m always disappointed but this place nails it. They actually muddle the limes and mint leaves. My favorite is the coconut mojito. Guacamole and plantains chips are delicious. The guac taste like they put some garlic in it and the chips are def homemade. Can never go wrong with the beef or spinach empanadas. Service is always good and food is consistently great. Def one of my favorite restaurants

Had the classic pork shoulder with rice, red beans and avocado, felt very much like home-made! Had no room nor time for dessert, so next time in town will try that. Portion was good enough for 2 people. Good pricing and service.

Okay I will admit that I most likely would not have even considered Cubanitas if it were not for a movie I watched were they sold Cuban, Sandwiches out of a food truck! The movie was called«Chef»(and it was good… find it!). After watching the Cubans being pressed and eaten in the movie, I had to try one at a real Cuban Restaurant. I remembered this place because I have been next door for sushi many times, so I decided to stop in for dinner. Soooo glad I tried Cubanitas! Loved the sandwich and appetizers. Our waitress was a little slow and hard to understand but she was very likable. Like Arnold… I will be back!

I stopped by on a random weekday afternoon to grab some take out. The place wasn’t busy so I hung out at the bar. Since I did get take out, I can’t really give a review on the service but all of the staff seemed super friendly and were attentive while I was there. I ordered a Cuban sandwich(for Mike B.), a Jamon y Queso and yuca. I was really excited to try all of the food but was seriously underwhelmed. The jamon y queso was just okay — it didn’t have many of the flavors/condiments that I have experienced with other Cuban sandwiches at other places. What I was most looking forward to was the Yuca, but that, too, lacked flavor and was cooked in a way I have not tasted before, nor enjoyed. Lastly, I ordered a guava shake to drink. It was tasty, but small and since it was to go, it came in a coffee cup, which was a little odd. I hope that they just ran out of smoothie cups… I will probably return a second time to try out other options on the menu before crossing it off my list of places to eat.

Stopped in for happy hour. Mojitos 6 bucks all month long. The inside was really home like and colorful. Small and intimate would define the space. Its open from door to the kitchen. I didnt have a chance to eat. I wasnt impressed by the menu. I would like to try the fajitas however. I dont eat pork so i really couldnt find much that i would eat besides the turkey sandwich or the chicken fajitas. I went there hoping to get a feeling of Cuba and Cuban food is like. Not so much, but i believe it has more to offer. The young lady who took my drink order at the bar as well as some food orders and answering the phone seemed to be a little upset, over worked or… you fill in the blank. This was my first time here i would have like a bit of a introduction or something i received nothing. No hey these are the specials… nothing! I got the mojito it tasted out the mint leave were rather big and got stuck in my straw. I didnt finish it. Paid and left.

A little bit of Havana in Milwaukee! This is authentic Cuban cuisine. Having had some of the most authentic Cuban cuisine EVER, this place ties for some of the best I’ve ever had. Authentic Cuban bread and none of that phony lookalike Cuban bread that some places try to fool you with. My typical order regardless of who’s at the the table: ham croquettes, empanadas, tostones, the Cuban sandwich and roast pork with black beans and rice. Oh yeah if you’re thirsty their bar is always flowing and they do make a mean mojito!

When we arrived we were given a warm greeting and directed outside to the sidewalk tables. I asked could we try something inside instead and there was a short lost in translation pause… I pointed to a seat and sat down, she nodded and walked away, no matter we just wanted a few strong mojitos, some authentic Cuban food, and a few laughs. As an app we had plantain chips and gac, it was bland and chips didn’t seem fresh. So moving onto dinner we ordered black bean and chicken, beef empanadas, Cuban sandwich, and pineapple mojitos for drinks. The food took a while and came to our table lukewarm. Drinks finally came and were pretty weak, maybe they played it safe. They weren’t even at half capacity so not sure if this was just an off night… I may give them another chance because I haven’t had many«great mojitos» in past here however hope if I do! Tonight doesn’t become the norm, good luck to you and enjoy!

Apparently I started this review awhile ago, but never finished it! I am a bit sad that I didn’t get to go back a few more times before leaving the area, but am glad that I got to go once and had a lovely experience. The girls were in town and were staying downtown, so we went exploring. one of my friends is also an avid Unilocaler and found Cubanitas through Unilocal! After drinks and a show, we headed to Cubanitas. We were welcomed by energetic Hispanic music, bright colours, and wonderful smells. It looked like about half of the customers were just enjoying cocktails and the other half were having dinner/snacks. The staff were friendly, but weren’t really around much. After looking at the menu, I could see how the place might be a good place for cocktails and sharing some plates before heading to dinner. There seemed to be more starter type items and sandwiches than anything else. However, I spotted what I wanted; Lechon Asado with white rice, black beans, and mojo. I believe there were Mojitos all round and they were quite good. In addition to my Lechon Asado, a Cubano was ordered as well. As we were waiting, I wanted to get up and dance because the music was wonderful. I also enjoyed looking at the old pictures. The food came out and while it may have not looked gourmet, it was pretty darn good. They also provide a large portion for the price. The pork was tender and I loved spices. And the black beans… oh I could have had a large bowl of that with white rice and been satisfied. I really need their recipe for the black beans. I am not sure that the Cubano was the best Cuban sandwich my friend has had, but it also disappeared quite quickly. If anything it felt like a home cooked meal and I liked that aspect. As we were sitting there listening to the music and sipping on our cocktails, I kind of wanted to get up and dance a bit. They also accommodated a group of about 8 or 10 people, so it is possible, but if the place was really busy, you might be waiting awhile. As for parking, if you have the patience to drive up and down the streets looking for parking that is an option, or you can find one of the many parking garages and pay.

Ay, cubanita… Su comida es empingao! After a summer filled with some of the best Cuban/Caribbean food I’ve ever had, I wasn’t expecting much from a Milwaukee joint. But to my surprise, they held their own. I ordered the gucamole and fried plantain chips as an appetizer, then rolled on the the Croquettas de Jamon and the Picadillo con Queso empanada. All were very solid. Then on to the main event: the Cubano. Again, very solid. Not a knock your socks off performance, but solid. The price was a bit steeper than what the quality and quantity I received, but only slightly. You could do much worse for much more money. Next time I’m in town, I’m ordering the Lechon Asado and then we’ll see just how good it really is…

Best Mojito in town! I live a few blocks away so the discouraging comments regarding parking don’t apply to me. Now, I gotta tell you the Mojito is the best ever. Period. I had a watermelon variety with a side of plantain chips and guacamole. This could be trouble since it only takes me 5 minutes to walk over! Guac was nice and fresh, is this(the guac) even Cuban? I don’t think so but it is done nicely. The plantain chips are fantastic not too oily or salty. I also had a Brazilian caipirinha. Warning, it is strong but smooth. Dinner itself was good, no complaints but it didn’t knock my socks off like the Mojito and Chips. We had the salmon special and Cuban sandwich. I absolutely will be back and would order these again. The salmon was a good price maybe $ 15 compared to the $ 20+ I spend at other places and had a nice smoked flavor. Cuban sandwich is good. Just not something I would eat daily but that is a personal preference. If you like meat, give it a try. I felt service was a bit rushed. Usually I don’t mind this however this time it was a bit too much. Still wouldn’t discourage me from visiting again.
