Not sure what happened, but this place hasn’t been open for close to two weeks. Everything is still in there and it looks like it’s ready to open but it hasn’t been open for a while. I’ve looked for an update in the newspaper or something but I’ve seen nothing. No sign on the door, nothing.

A long and vigorous search for the best Reuben in town has lead me to my new favorite. After the disappointing closure of Bunker’s in West Allis there was a gaping hole in my stomach. House of Corned Beef serves it up right with thickly cut delicious beef, moist and tender. Served on traditional rye bread, stuffed with sour kraut, cheese and thousand island. On the pricey end for only coming with a pickle, but I’ll sacrifice a little change for this delicious sandwich. Also comes recommended are the Philly Corned Beef and the Pastrami Sandwich.

Wow, I must say VERY unimpressed… Ordered a corned beef and pastrami sandwich. Only person in the place and it took close to 10 min to get the order. Pastrami was more like dog food. Chopped into little pieces and just plain bad. Corned beef was ok but not worth the price tag.

Disappointing. Far from Milwaukee’s best corned beef. I ordered a lean corned beef sandwich for $ 10.99. The corned beef was overcooked(yesterday)and served refegerator cold. Rye bread used was dry and atleast day old as it was falling apart. My wife had a lean reuben and it also was dry and flavorless. Also, nothing on the menu for kids. Staff was disengaged not very friendly. If you want good corned beef your only options are Benji’s and Jake’s

I was pretty excited to see a new corned beef joint on the Eastside. Tried on a Wednesday at lunchtime. Although the employees were friendly, the service was slow and the corned beef sandwich was only ok. There are much better corned beef spots around town. Also, the décor of restaurant was a bit odd. I probably will seek out a different spot next time I’m in the mood for corned beef

As far as corned beef… It’s a cheap knockoff on Jakes Deli. I have been there 3 times and they just don’t get it? The corned beef is over cooked and not fresh. The employees seem nice however they have no clue as to keep the meat fresh. If the owner is not there don’t even bother. It’s the House of corned beef, but they have all of these other menue items. I am confused? I won’t be back!

Tried the Milwaukeean Sandwich(corned beef & pastrami) and the italian beef. The corned beef was surprisingly not that great, considering the name and all. It was almost inedible due to how much fat was in it. We had to pull it apart to even attempt to eat it and even then it was difficult to chew. The pastrami was delicious, as well as the beef, but it was no portillos lol. I did ask for it dipped, but I had to eat it with a fork it was sooo soggy. I also asked for no onion, I got what appeared to be an entire onion instead. The fries are pretty good though.

The food was OK but the service was odd. They offered a free sample and while the guy went back to the kitchen he did not acknowledge anyone and eventually came back with a piece of corned beef but he was somewhat unfriendly. When I got my order home the sandwich fell apart because it was a mess the way it was put into the bag to go. I liked corned beef but this was just not the place for me.

Nice little find on the East Side. It’s Corned Beef will rival any in the city. The Pastrami sandwich comes in a very close 2nd. The pizza is homemade and the burgers are better than when Sobleman’s had the space. I have been here 3 times now for lunch and no complaints so far. Friendly staff and a chef who isn’t afraid to talk about his food. So when the line at Comet is too long of a wait or they run out of BLTs or Hodags at Koppa’s, head over to the House of Corned Beef to satisfy your hunger. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Hand sliced tasty and juicy Corned Beef make for a great messy Ruben, we also had an excellent hand tossed pizza. They deliver and stay open until 3 am on the weekend. And yes, the owners are nice and seem to understand the meaning of being in the food service/hospitality business, unlike other places in town run by people who act as if they’d rather be elsewhere than at work… if you like unpretentious good food, give House of Corned Beef on Milwaukee’s Farwell Ave a try. I hope word spreads about this place…(and they’re smart enough to sell Dr. Brown’s Black Cherry soda, what more can I say…) ;)

There’s another review that mentioned how good the Italian beef sandwich is. I was skeptical, but had to give it a shot, because it’s possibly better than driving 90 mins to Portillo’s. Corned beef sample is awesome(I’m going back for a Reuben). People are super friendly and courteous. Italian beef is NOT Chicago-good, but it’s still really good. Actually, not being Chicago-good might be a good thing. The sandwich seems less salty, which helps me out. Also, that thing is fricking huge and they pile on a butt load of the toppings. It’s a pretty awesome value. This place is good. Check it out.

HOCB takes over the old Sobelmans location and if you’re like me and didn’t much care for sobelmans you’ll be happy it’s here. With a name like HOCB, I had to try the corned beef. I went for lunch during the work week and I had the corned beef($ 7.99) and upgraded to fries/soda combo($ 2.99) and also ordered jalapeño poppers($ 4.99) which are available in cheddar or cream cheese(I had cream cheese). Service was friendly and relatively fast. It wasn’t busy when I went(only 2 other guys in the place were at a table eating) and waited about 10 min for my food. The poppers were very good and come w about 5 – 6. Apparently they don’t provide any dipping sauce so if you want some, make sure to request it(I had marinara which was great). The corned beef did not disappoint, some of the best I’ve had. Personally I prefer it over even Jakes which is THE corned beef. The bread was toasted and the meat was juicy, well cooked and delicious. Only complaint was it was a little fatty– I’m being picky but if I had to pick a negative that would be it– and the fries weren’t anything special. Don’t worry though because you can order it with all lean meat for a $ 2 upcharge which I plan to do next time. Overall a great first impersonation. I’ll definitely be back and next time I’ll be bringing with my coworkers/friends. Also another perk, go to and buy a bunch of deals for HOCB and save a little money! Now you have no reason not to go so make sure to stop in! You won’t regret it! enjoy!

I walk past this place every day and have been anxiously awaiting it’s opening when I found out they were opening. I loved Patty Burger, hated Sobelman’s, so in theory, I was going to love this place no matter what. I finally made it in on Sunday and was a little worried to see nobody at all in there. I thought, hmm, maybe it’s just because it’s new… but went in anyway. First and foremost, 3 of the 4 employees were awesomely friendly and helpful. I had some questions about the preparation of the food and the girl at the counter and the cook were very happy to answer my questions. It’s been a long time since I’ve had a good Italian Beef so I picked that, and I’m so glad I did. While I was waiting, they even offered me a couple slices of Corned Beef, which was really awesome of them. There was so much beef, that I had to eat about ¼ of it before even trying to eat it like a sandwich! The beef was perfectly done and absolutely delicious. The bun was a little on the hard side, but was still pretty good. Fries were bland, but thats okay, I didn’t go there for the fries. If you are on the east side and looking for a good, Chicago style Italian Beef, check this place out. They also offer pizza, hot dogs, and burgers… in addition to their corned beef of course. I plan on returning a few times to try the other stuff out.
