We go here for breakfast every once in a while but this Sunday it was very crowded(at least at the door because there were many tables open but no one was getting seated). The manager Wendy was probably the rudest person I have ever met in my life. I was there waiting holding my newborn infant in the carrier along with my two young cousins and my mother. There was a 20 minute wait and instead of helping us find somewhere to wait she kept asking us to move out of the way and I even told her please tell me where to go because there was no where to stand or sit, and she yelled out I don’t know where just not here. Some of the customers felt sorry for us and offered is to set the baby in the carrier down at their table. Not wanting to intrude we politely declined and went to stand at the back near some of the empty booths. The server saw us standing there and offered us to sit there. Once the manager saw she forced us off the table. We than stood in the corner near the stack of chairs and the manager again comes over to us and tells us to move that we are in the way and I ask her where do you expect us to go and she mentioned we could go wait in the car. Taking our newborn back out in the cold was not an option for us but eventually we decided to just leave once it seemed clear she was going to do anything in her power to make our visit miserable. It’s too bad because the servers were all really nice and trying to help us as well as the customers but we will never go back there again. At least not until they change their management.

Pancakes are not the best. IHOP, the original pancake house, and Denny’s are all better. Plus it’s always packed. Would not recommend this place.

I love diner-style breakfast places. It’s one of my biggest guilty pleasures. You can have all the fancy brunches you want — I just want an over-sized omelette, greasy hash browns, and pancakes and I’m good to go. Maxfield’s gives me just that. It’s typically busy on weekends, especially with seniors and young families, but they often turn over tables quickly and I haven’t waited more than 20 minutes. The Wauwatosa location seems a little better suited to larger groups — I’d stick to 4 or less if you want to be seated here quickly. Servers are pretty friendly and attentive with coffee refills. Their omelettes are solid choices — for something a little different, I’d recommend the Hawaii 5 – 0 which has bacon, ham, pineapple, and Monterey Jack cheese. Many dishes come with a side of buttermilk pancakes, which are delicious and sized just right. With most dishes under $ 10, it’s a cost-friendly option. I’ll happily return here for casual breakfasts.

If you want that classic diner style breakfast, then this place if for you! Seriously. The price is right, the food comes out in literally 10 min or less, and the staff is friendly and hospitable. My boyfriend and I come here once a month(at least.) I always order the Greek omelet which is stuffed with feta cheese and comes with a side of Tzatziki. My boyfriend gets the croissant sandwich.(Pics above.) Highly recommend this place for breakfast! Casual, friendly and seriously yummy.

Maxfield’s is more like Maxfails because the food was just subpar. The first mistake that I made was ordering the pecan roll. It was dry and tasted like a bought in product and not made in house. The coffee was just as weak and the typical bottom of the barrel watery Sanka diner coffee. The second mistake was ordering the crepes and blintzs. The dough was an absolute disgrace to the classic French crêpe. Both were super thick and doughy. They probably just used the pancake batter and made them thinner. The blueberry blintz was just filled with sweetened cottage cheese and a few blueberries. Not what I was expecting from a this blintz, but was hoping for a creamier cheese. The three sisters crepes were made with the same terrible batter and the fillings were just boring. The corned beef hash flavor was ok, but I would have like to have chunks of corned beef instead of finely shredded bits. Overall I wish I wouldn’t have came here this morning and should’ve stuck with my original plan elsewhere. I would definitely not suggest anyone to come here and I will definitely not be returning.

My party and I had a really nice time at Maxfield’s. Everyone’s orders were large and tasty and the staff was very polite and attentive. This place has a family owned, home-cooked vibe to it so it’s a great choice for breakfast comfort food. It was packed on Sunday morning but we only waited about 15 minutes and the food came out quickly as well. I ordered a hashbrown scramble with cheddar, jalapenos, onions, and bacon with two eggs on top(the original has ham instead of bacon, but I subbed) that gave me about two days’ worth of leftovers. My side of potato pancakes was AMAZING. I would go back just for an order of those potato pancakes. Our server was friendly and had quite the memory to take care of orders for a party of five. His only slip up was in giving me over easy eggs instead of scrambled but it certainly didn’t break my heart– in fact, it was probably an improvement on my original order. Very nice comfort breakfast place– give it a try.

In town for a graduation — great breakfast, and nice place for a family to eat together and talk. The pancakes are great, and the breakfast specials are a great deal for the money. Real old time customer service, both at the front door and at the table. No reason to eat at a chain restaurant when a local place will do!

Popular breakfast place – judging by the steady stream of people coming and going. They are very fast with service and the food is delicious. Online menu only shows one page but there are many breakfast options. My asparagus and mushroom skillet with eggs over easy was delicious! They easily substitute items with no fuss. I will most certainly be coming back here. Note: they do offer lunch menu items too.

I love this place! It’s my family’s go-to brunch place, and I am always satisfied with my service. My favorite meal here is the chocolate chip pancakes, but today I had the cherry crepes. These are also one of my common choices, but I hadn’t had them in a while. I wasn’t disappointed. Our service was quick and friendly. I thoroughly enjoy my meals at Maxfield’s, and I expect to continue to dine at this place.

Cute and typical diner in the northshore. Went in for a late brunch and their menu had a great selection of breakfast items. Staff was also very willing to swap the buttermilk pancake with one of their specialty ones… So definitely ask!

The food was not great first and foremost. Also, my husband and I’s experience here was bad due to his phone being stolen at the restaurant. He left it on the table and within ten minutes we returned to look for it, and it was nowhere to be found. We traced the phone, and the«find my phone» app said it was in the restaurant. When we explained this to the hostess she said, «No one here would have taken it.» and then dismissed us as she offered no further help. Hours later the phone was still traced to the restaurant. I am alleging that an employee took the phone, and I could be wrong. I hope I am. However, we will not ever be eating here again, and I will also tell anyone planning to eat here of our bad experience.

Dirty, overpriced, bad food, rude staff… etc! Yuck! Won’t ever be back! Eggs were overcooked, bacon was burned, hash browns looked like they came off the floor, toast wasnt«toasted» so it was pretty much sourdough bread, pancakes for the«pancake house»(I use that term lightly) were flat and gummy. Staff was slow and inattentive, had to ask every time for coffee, was never offered.

Took the family for breakfast one day and just loved the omelettes and pancakes. My sisters a vegetarian and didn’t notice ham was an ingredient in her omelette but they got a new one right away for her. My second visit I got the chocolate chip pancakes, OMG so light and soft… mouth watering!

My initial impression was don’t eat here! The tables were dirty and the customers worse. The staff were busy with the 3 customers they had and it was five min before I was seated. Not really sure why they chose to put me in a damp sticky table when the other 34 tables were open? But this is pretty much what you expect from a Wisconsin chain restaurant. Oddly seeing as how this is the Dairy state, this is the only breakfast place that doesn’t provide milk to cover the flavor of cheap coffee. Interestingly if you add sugar to their coffee the flavor of water is predominant. I finally settled on an option and gave the obligatory«no I don’t want meat with that». I didn’t bother to ask if they had real maple syrup as this would be futile. The best part of the meal was it arrived minutes after I ordered. Thus attesting to the«freshness». The blueberry syrup(which is the color not the ingredients) was exactly as hoped: high in fructose. The potatoes undercooked but the eggs were good and not too greasy. This is one if those places that if you’re not a regular you may feel like an outsider. But then again you will be relieved you are an outsider because if you eat here too often you may not live long enough to enjoy better food elsewhere. I realize this review is moot as the average customer here is too old to realize the internet exists. But for those Unilocal readers, stay away.

I went to Maxfields to meet some friends for a late brunch. The place was packed. That’s not a bad sign, in my eyes, because that means people must like the place. After 15 minutes we were seated and presented with a menu the size of Kansas. Not physically but the immense variety of food choices was almost overwhelming. Our waitress was attentive and friendly and kept coming back to check on us, in spite on how busy they were. I can just imagine how tiring it must be for that poor woman. What’s more, there was a table cleaner(a busser) who also was constantly offering us water and clearing our plates. I made sure I gave him a tip separate from our waitress. He deserved it. I ordered the Greek Omelette and was not unhappy with my choice. Those who are watching their caloric intake might want to shy away from this place. The portions are fairly large and there are several additional sides that come with each meal so be prepared to be hungry when you visit. This is definitely a value-for-your-money place. I think I’ll bring my wife and kids here next weekend.

It can never replace heinemann’s obviously. Simply a chain restaurant that is nowhere near the home cooked experience that was heinemann’s! Never come here expecting much or you will be utterly disappointed.

I went here on a jam-packed Sunday, and we had to start by waiting 20 mins-but that’s what can you expect for any breakfast place! When we were finally seated we quickly came up with our order. The 2 juices we got were terrible. The cranberry juice was so sour it was unbearable. Also the lemonade quite was watered down. When we returned the cranberry juice there was no apology. The food was pretty decent. My chocolate chip pancakes were nothing special, in fact they had that fake vanilla tastes that many mixes have which was disappointing. The waitress never came back to ask how the food was. Final grades: Service: B– Food/drinks: C– Overall: I would have to think twice before coming back, I have been here before and I’m not impressed by this place.

As a person with Celiac disease for my entire adult life, I am happy more restaurants are aware of gluten-free food. The bad thing lately, however, is a lot of people think it’s a fad diet, due to Operah and Myrie Cyrus. I guess for a lot of people it might be, but for people with Celiac disease, it’s a serious medical condition. A lot of restaurants that offer gluten-free alternatives seriously gouge you with higher prices, which is just not right! Not so at Maxfield’s, however. I don’t think the menu even indicates gluten-free pancakes, you have to ask, but they have them, and at the same price as their regular pancakes. This is good news! One of my favorite things in the way-past was to have breakfast with pancakes and fried eggs. I really like to soak up egg yolk with pancake, but I haven’t been able to do this for years! Here I can… and it’s really inexpensive, too. The food is good, too. The service is great here, they don’t have a TV on, fantastic décor(like your aunt and uncle’s family room), music is low-key, almost inaudible. A fantastic breakfast spot all around. I only wish they were a little closer to downtown Milwaukee, but what are you gonna do?

I work right down the street from here, and had a hankering for some hashbrowns on Friday. We went at 12:30 and were seated immediately. Quick watering and coffee offer, which was nice considering we were on a time crunch. At first stop we were all ready to order, 2 skillets and two others. I got the corned beef skillet, and my friend got the mexican themed one… his looked MUCH bigger and MUCH more appetizing. My corned beef was more like shredded mush, and SO much cheese that I was literally gagging. They split our tabs which was nice, and the food came extremely quick. The pancakes were really good, and I enjoyed the quick, friendly service. My main complaint(aside from the skeezy meat), was the way it made me feel afterward. I laid on the couch with a tummy grumbling something fierce, and lost out on an entire friday night. Bummer. Will skip the corned beef next time.

Be ready to wait when trying to get a table at this very popular weekend breakfast/lunch restaurant. Long line today — people waiting inside and outside, luckily it’s not too cold yet. Lately this has been our go-to breakfast diner; the kids like everything here so whenever they don’t fuss over their food, that’s a plus. Today I had the California Delight chicken sandwich on sourdough bread. Everyone else had breakfast food(Belgian waffles, omelettes and hash brown). Everything was delicious, just as we’ve come to expect from Maxfields time and again. The orange juice is fresh squeezed. Today, it wasn’t as sweet as I’ve had in the past, but still pretty good. As busy as they were, service was quick and attentive. Coffee was refilled as soon as it got close to the bottom of my cup. Bottom line — generous portions, good food, fair prices, friendly owners and employees. This is a great diner to have on the North Shore.
