I really enjoy stopping by here to have a tasty beer! There draft list is always very impressive. The environment is kind of industrial compared to what you would expect from the name but that doesn’t effect the taste of the beer :) The last time we were there they were doing a fundraiser for the Domes and it made us very happy to know a local business was supporting something so important to us. Keep it up!

This place is really, really cool. Great bar area /seating /gorgeous and spacious but comfortably close room. Good sound system with great tunes and a friendly bartender… …but oh that beer selection! Since I had limited time(only 2 hours) I went with a 4×6 oz flight. It was easy to find 4 beers that I liked, but hard to find *only* 4 beers that I liked. I guess I’ll have to come back for a longer stay! If you are looking for a beer, a chat, or a place to hang out — this is a great place to land for a good time!

Good beers on tap, cool vibe. Tons of open seating for big groups.

I basically started drooling when walking into this bar because of how many taps they have. I was told there are 60 taps and are constantly changing them as I had a sour beer that wasn’t even on their menu. They had all different kinds of beers, a good chunk of them are from Wisconsin which makes me happy. I was sad the only Green Bay brewery they had was Hinterland. The atmosphere is nice but made me uncomfortable at the same time as it should be for hipsters with graduate degrees and well groomed beers. There was a lot of art on the wall that just looked like smudges to me and the seating away from the bar were wood benches that went to the floor and had no backs to it. I’m glad I had a seat at the bar, I wouldn’t want to sit on those benches. I would go here again based on the great selection of beers.

From the moment we arrived the men were captivated by the Melon wall and the abstract art work that evoked spirited conversation!!! P. S. The tap selection was glorious!!! A return to this fine establishment is inevitable!!!

This place had a very nice beer list with lots of space for groups to enjoy conversation and drink. The service was good and the crowd was an interesting mix of professionals, students and former students. The only downside is the lack of any food, but the area does have quite a few places within walking distance that would serve to fill the intestinal void.

Have you ever went to the grocery store looking for cereal and stood there mesmerized by the choices? Well, imagine that with beer. Sugar maple looks very stark when you enter, but your eyes will immediatley go the row after row of taps. They basically have anything you would want and then some. Good prices, great selection and upscale. Only downside, no food… but you can’t have everything…(FYI) Café Centraal is next door.

Great beer selection! They have close to 30 taps! I was so impressed! The one thing that was not impressive was how much of a stickler the bartender was being about everything. He complained about our coffee from the place down the street and insisted that some of us go outside with our coffee. He was sure to clarify that those of us with beer could not go to the same outdoor space with our friends with coffee. They don’t sell coffee so I don’t really see what the issue is. After insisting that everyone show ID, he questioned my friend’s temporary paper license that he had since he just moved back to the states from Canada and didn’t even end up drinking. We’re all in our late twenties and early thirties so I don’t see why we’d be sneaking in someone underage. It was like an emotional roller coaster. One minute, we’re chatting it up with bartender about local beer and the next minute he’s bitching us out about leaving our half full coffee cups outside that we left there so we can snag them on the way out. It was just weird vibes and made us want to leave. The bartender was borderline comically rude — I would compare the customer service to a fake-rude level of Ed Debevicks only it’s real! Beer was good, vibes were definitely bad.

Descriptive phrase: uncomfortable but impressive beer bar. Sugar Maple is a lesson in both good and bad bar design. Good: — impressive beer selection, in both quantity and quality — nice patio out back Bad: — the most uncomfortable /poorly-designed seating. Worse than Kopp’s Custard. — pricey(due to the aforementioned quantity/quality). Indifferent: — too-hip art, as is expected in Bay View. — apathetic bartenders. — too dark. If you want to try new beers while sitting at the bar quietly, Sugar Maple is hard to beat. But if you want a comfortable drink with friends, I’d pass.

NSFW or just read it to yourself if you are at the ofc. Carrie G turned me on to this place a year ago. She said if you like beer you will love it. well that was an understatement. Most big bars may have 20 to 25 drafts to choose from this has 62. she just said they have a large selection. So just a warning instant beer nerd-boner alert. Very chill. Mix of classic old school long bar so size matters, with a huge variety of spirits and crafts. Soak in the ambiance, look around absorb the art. Lots of great stuff on the walls expect muted music. Not too loud not too bright. Bathroom graffiti hipster kind of place. Chill bartenders. Quick service. Check out the many sticks of crafts happy hours from m-th get a buck off your drink –silly me for forgetting what day it is. TGIF, yay! but, no specials that day. Arg last four days/nights are catching up on me need to catch up on sleep to get my brain right. 62 sticks of draft but they happened to have 1 from Central waters brewery. Yay for Mud Puppy Porter. All the rest can range from $ 5 –13 a glass. Parking is a PITA so I suggest walking carpooling or biking. Food none Amb 4 a place where you can have a conversation in. Restrooms have(Graffiti) art too. Lol. Service 4 Loc 4 Val 3 avg to moderate prices for premium beers 43⁄2015

It’s a nice space with a beautiful patio, and a nice back room that could serve useful as a meeting space. I’ve been here before for special markets they hold, but last week was the first time I had gotten a drink there. The bartender we had was nice, and didn’t judge me when I craved a bloody Mary at 6 in the afternoon. The only real complaint I had was that there was porter in the BM, which I didn’t know/expect and since I don’t like porters(yeah, so sue me…), it was sort of off for me. I’ll definitely be back though, they have a ton of craft beers and liquor to offer.

Maybe you shouldn’t have bartenders that mock their patrons behind their backs? Went into Sugar Maple to have a few drinks with some friends. We were having a great time until my friends overheard and saw the female bartender mocking words I was saying, eavesdropping on our conversation. Not sure that’s the best tactic to take when you’re in the service industry, but that’s just coming from a patron who has plenty of other semi-OK bars to visit in the Bay View area.

I’m from Seattle. Like many Milwaukeeans(Milwaukeeites?), I’m really annoying about my beer. Sometimes I hear myself talking about IPAs and I can’t help but roll my eyes. Now that I’ve won your trust, let me say this — I really appreciate that this place not only has a wide array to select from, they have some seriously good stuff. There’s a beer for every kind of beer drinker. For your friends who don’t drink beer? Tell them to grow adult taste buds and if they get offended, say just keeeeedding and assure them this place has a full bar. Rum and coke is on the menu. All will be well. Then like a true beer fiend, force them to take a sip of your beer for the nth time in the hopes of converting them. The space was interesting. It’s unnecessarily extremely dim. It’s probably best to come here with a group of your friends. There really aren’t any other forms of entertainment besides rotating your beer choices with each other and talking. I quite liked it but I know that’s a concern for some. The seating is also conducive more to groups than lone drinking or even being on a date. It was kinda trendy, a little swanky but somehow, it lazily decided to be too laid back to be definitively either. It’s far from a dive bar though. I suppose you can call it hipster. One look at their bartenders and you will agree. Talk to them about the beer and the beer snobbery will transport you to Portland. To be fair, snobbery doesn’t equate to a lack of customer service. They just know their stuff and have strong opinions about it!

Bottles and taps, oh my! They do have a large selection if you are looking for beer or booze, and if you aren’t, I’m not sure why you would make this your destination. Paired with the curvy bar and the modern furniture, Sugar Maple had a pretty chill vibe. There is a happy hour special during the week. I think it was $ 1 off tap beers from 4 – 8 p.m. The space was kind of dimly lit at 6:30 in the evening, and hopefully because of that and for no other reason, our bartender took my beer glass away when it still had a good gulp left in the bottom of it.

Yeah I get it– great beer selection, but that’s not unique to MKE. There’s a lot of places with a good selection of beer. And most are cheaper– This is not a place to go to alone, no TV, too dark to occupy your time people watching. So drinking a beer and staring at your phone. Music is very weird– one song hard core punk from the 70’s, then an acid trip on some weird assed trancy song, and then a smattering of Motown. Did I mention it’s dark– it’s really dark. And unless you sit at the bar, the seating blows. Some pretentious art on the walls– ugg I sound like an old Grandpa complaining. So that’s that– not my place.

This place is totally a 4.5 star kind of a place. I’m sorry I have to group you to 4 stars, Sugar Maple. This place and Palm Tavern have got to be the 2 best bars in Bayview. It’s good that they are on either end! the ambiance of this place is more suitable with larger grous of friends, and sometimes its good that it’s not as dark… sometimes. If you come here not during peak hours, you can grab a flight of beers. Always recommended considering the amazing selection here. They also do a ton of great events during the week. Special Cask beers are opened to the public during the week, for example: this thursday at 6:00pm. The bartenders are usually really friendly, quirky, and fun to talk to. One thing I miss. The soups! Bring those back, or something else thats small and easy to prepare. That added so much to visiting this place. Good soup and a beer is so appealing, especially on a cold winter day.

So many beers to choose, is this Heaven? I love love love the changing beer selection and the opportunity to try new ones. This place is rather spacious, sometimes loud, but a great place to bring a group or meet with a friend.

This bar is right at home in bay view. Many tasty brews on tap and a relaxed atmosphere. The off bar seating lends some character to space with multiple benches and low height chairs which keeps the space a relatively open feeling. The only reason that this place doesn’t get more stars is because of the bar staff /bar back situation. Every time I go here it usually takes longer than normal to get a beer and to close out. Literally watched a barback literally stand and do nothing(not even take the empties away), and when asked to notify the bartender so I could close out, he replied ‘I’m just a barback’ and stood there and did nothing.

You gotta try this plac,!! On a low key girls night out, we decided to venture out to Bay view. Tried couple of new places and since there were many good Unilocal reviews we thought of trying this place out. The interior is super cool. I love the low seating and the ambiance. The staff definitely looked like cast of duck dynasty! Everyone had long beard :) Staff was friendly, non pretentious and very helpful. I wanted to try out their beer flights and the guy at the bar helped me out and was very informative. Would return if i am in the area again.

4 words: Zombie Killer Cherry Mead. That was enough right there to get it 4 stars. So delicious. You’ll always find new awesome things on tap at Sugar Maple. They have over 60 american beers(or cider or mead) on tap at any given time. Their calendar says they are open 365 days a year, however last time I tried to go they were closed for remodeling. They seem to have a few construction things going on at the time, but I’m sure when they’re finished the place will be awesome. It already has a pretty nice atmosphere. Now the reason why they’re missing that last star… I wish they had more menus on the table, or a book that held all of the options. There seemed to be two menus, one at the bar and one at the tables with different drinks. Later I saw a couple order a flight which I had no idea about, otherwise I would have ordered one! I definitely hope to go back and try new things from time to time. Will keep this place in mind for a night out all year round.
