Simple and delicious. Walk in, pick a soup(good luck: they all sound great), decide between cornbread or french bread, and pay with cash or check(there is an ATM if you’re carrying only plastic). The place is huge but can get packed during lunch; they’re totally ready to give you your soup to-go. You can grab a drink from the cooler and maybe a sandwich to go with your soup(they have PB&J on white; they get us) and get on your way. It’s not cheap, but the cost of a bowl is well-deserved. I’ve had the chicken noodle(can also be served with rice) and the chicken tortilla(which is dairy-free, bean-based) and both were delish. ALSO: If you happen to get the last bowl of a batch of soup, you earn a Soup House sticker. It might be even more exciting than closing Wolski’s. This is definitely a place you can come alone to find a table and read through the Shepherd Express or pop in with friends and have a lively conversation without getting side-eye from grumps. Be Warned: make a certain Seinfeld reference and they will charge you $ 1. And they are not kidding(and you are not funny).

Great mother/daughter restaurant. Thanks for offering vegan and vegetarian options ladies, we enjoyed all the soups we tried. This was a fun place to eat and bring the baby to. It was child friendly. There are lots of colorful pictures and knickknacks in the dining room for the baby to see and ask questions about :)

Best place in Milwaukee to go for homemade chicken noodle, hands down. I was sicker than a dog and the nice lady picked up on that right away, gave me mostly broth(as requested) and an extra helping of crackers. Customer service is just as wonderful as the soup, definitely will be frequenting there to try all the other flavors. I took my order to go since I was contagious, cant wait to come back and eat in.

Some of the best soup in the city! Tuesdays are my favorite… Buffalo chicken! If you’re in the downtown area, this is a must try. Only complaint is that I wish they were open longer!

During a business trip in the area, I stumbled across The Soup House. It was a brisk winter day, so a piping hot bowl of soup was the perfect remedy. The area is homey and cozy, but yet quirky with its mismatch furniture and décor. The menu is quite simple: about 6 daily rotating soups. There is a soup for everyone: creamy, brothy, meaty, vegetarian, seafood, or gluten free. I came around 12:30pm for lunch and more than half of the soups were already sold out. If you have your heart set on a particular soup, then make sure you come early. I opted for the pizza chili with corn bread. The soup was hearty and literally tasted like a pizza. It was filled with pepperoni, sausage, peppers, olives, and onions topped with mozzarella cheese. The ladies at the counter were extremely friendly. They are knowledgeable about the food they offer and extremely patient while I stood there debating on what to get. Definitely stop by if you are in the area, probably one of the best soups I had in a while. Oh, this place only accepts cash or check. There is an atm available for those who don’t carry either.

Big fan of the Soup House! I definitely agree that you have to get there early to make sure your favorite doesn’t sell out, but it is easy to find a great runner up if it does! Veggie Chili hands down is my favorite. Also, if you get the last remaining bowl of a soup you get a cool sticker which was a fun kitschy surprise! Very low key but very delicious!

The best soup with the best people, hands down. 6 Soups everyday, you’ll never be bored. I could eat there every day of the week, but I don’t work downtown. I have tried all of the downtown soup spots but none come close to topping this one!!!

Adorable spot for a quick/casual lunch in the heart of downtown! With ample seating and an eclectic + laid-back vibe, the Soup House has got it going on for dine-in OR carryout on the lunch tip.(It doesn’t hurt that the soup itself is pretty freaking great, too.) It’s simple, really: 5 – 6 rotating selections each day in various sizes, cash-only(they have an ATM on-site). Bus your own table when you’re done. Boom. Tried the chili w/cornbread yesterday; it was a solid, well-done chili to be sure.(I adde a bit of Cholula cause I’m a heat freak, but that’s me. You do you.) TL;DR: Downtown? Hungry? Lunchtime? Soup House has got you.

This was my first time at this place. Staff is very friendly & nice(specially the older lady). I have sore throat and can’t swallow hard food, so I decided to eat soup today. I searched soup places on Unilocal and decided to give a try to this place. WHAT A FANTASTICCHOICE I MADE I ordered Ivan’s Tikki Masala soup and it was out of this world. I know I’m coming back. TIP: CASHONLY

Every Tuesday someone from the office takes our orders for Soup House and it is always delicious. I would recommend the buffalo chicken soup on Tuesdays. Nearly everyone I know gets it– so yummy! Topped with a slice of fresh French bread. I’ve never had a bad experience here. Quick service and consistent quality. Remember: they only take cash!

I’ve been to the Soup House twice now. The soup is indeed good; my latest trip I had the clam chowder which was tasty and hearty. My taste buds weren’t blown away, nor was it the best clam chowder I’ve ever had(the base was a bit too salty), BUT it was affordably priced and I left with a happy tummy. I appreciated the French baguette, though it was short of warm and magical. What I particularly value about this place is the quirkiness and«homey» feel to be discovered inside. I love the dozens of tropical plants lining the sunny windows, I relish the eclectic mix of art hanging about, and the assortment of 1950s vintage tables and chairs is nothing short of cool. The one department that was lacking is lighting — there is currently drab industrial lighting. A few funky chandeliers would really up the game. Bottom line: The Soup House is a fantastically quirky and yummy lunch spot with all the potential to become a Milwaukee institution.

The Soup House is a counter-style lunch only restaurant full of cute eclectic furnishings and delicious soup. The soup choices change depending on the day of the week and the soups sell out, so go here for an early lunch! Also, they are cash only and weekday only. Tuesday is my favorite day to go for the chicken pot pie soup, but the Mac n cheese soup I tried today(Monday) was also good. I also like to add a half sandwich located in the fridge. Although the 4 or 5 steps up to this place make it a little difficult with a stroller, this place is baby and kid friendly. They have cute antique-style high chairs, booster seats, and a wide variety of activities to keep them busy located in baskets under the coffee table — children’s books, coloring/crayons, etch a sketch, board games, card games, etc.

Descriptive phrase: cute boutique soup shop. The Soup House makes a downtown corner feel homey; no easy feat. It’s cute, with mismatched chairs and tables scattered around a kitschy but not terribly comfortable space. The workers were very friendly, and seemed to be enjoying their job. I was excited to try their Chicken Tortilla, as it’s one of my favorite styles of soup. $ 7 got me a medium-sized bowl, which was plenty, and a piece of french bread. The soup had quality ingredients, but it just didn’t have much taste. I expect a bit of spice and a lot of character from a traditionally-TexMex dish, but it just kind of fell flat. Good but not great. The Soup House is a nice little place, but not my next destination. Cash only!

Top notch soup. Period Friendly staff and good prices. I would come here 2 – 3 times a week if I lived here. I had the tiki and gumbo because I couldn’t decide and both were on point.

This a kind a weird little store, which is only open for lunch. It occupies a large amount of real estate and is basically self serve once you get your soup. Now to the really important stuff… The soup is actually very good. The menu changes day to day and usually has an option for everyone(vegetarian, vegan). FYI, it’s a cash only business so bring your wallet. The soup is relatively expensive, that being said it’s homemade and doesn’t have all the master stuff in that cheap canned soup does. You get a decent sided price of cornbread or sourdough to dip in your soup as well. A medium usually is enough for me. Worth a try if you are near downtown for lunch.

Though it stresses me out that this place is cash only, it’s worth scraping up some paper to get delicious soup. This place is pretty simple: like six or so daily soups, good ones will sell out from what I recall. They’ll let you sample ones you’re unsure of. Delicious food, nice staff. Tried the Buffalo Chicken Soup recently and even though I have never like anything buffalo chicken in my life, can’t stop thinking about how tasty this was. Will have to menu stalk to see when it’s back. Such a great lunch option! Large dining area, too, so great for grabbing a bowl with coworkers.

The soup is fresh and as the lunch hour progresses, you’ll see some of them getting crossed off the list. The gal in front of me viciously took the last of the Buffalo Chicken, leaving me with a difficult choice for second. No worries, though. The«House Soup with Noodles» was still an excellent chicken soup. Much like my wife would make! Large portion and with a big piece of french bread to scoop up the bits that your spoon can’t gather! Good stuff! I’d recommend it, especially on those colder days that you Milwaukeeans tend to get lots of. NOTE: CASHONLY!
