I stopped in today just wanting to check it out. I was pleasantly surprised by the friendly owner who gave me tons of advice about places to ride and other information about the area. Just moving to the area this was extremely valuable. There is a great selection of new and used bikes and lots of accessories, tools, and fast wear items in stock. I will definitely be back.

Over two years later Truly Spoken is still rockin’ like a hurricane. (Apt analogy? Dated lyrical reference? You decide.) I recently took my bike in for a tune-up and they took great care of it. Safe bike/tuned up bike = happy bike-ridin’ Rachel. Expect informal, community, and a Riverwest-y vibe.(They know their stuff and are super nice, though, so don’t be intimidated either!)

I’m giving them five stars because I feel like I’ve come in with so many random, weird bike/bike accessory problems and they have always been willing to listen, offer creative solutions, and give me advice that sometimes involves buying stuff, but sometimes doesn’t. There is a more laidback feeling here and I think it’s less intimidating than other places. Biking to me sometimes seems to lend itself to being a bit«athletically elitist»(I really don’t know what that means — just made it up) but I never get that feeling here. All that being said, they always seem to know there stuff and will investigate a problem until its solved. As mentioned, they seem to specialize in Jamis bikes but do carry others and have a number of used bikes too. They also will give you a $ 10 off of $ 25 coupon for bel-air if you spend $ 50 @ one time. Sold!

Hey guys, I’m gonna let you in on a little secret. Truly is one of the most honest bike shops in Milwaukee. I stumbled upon Truly prior to Milwaukee’s legendary 24-hour bike race — the Riverwest 24. In need of a last-minute tune up, I looked at three different bike shops. Truly not only had the best price for my needs, but they were featuring a fast turn around time for those participating in the RW24. I took the bait and got a sweet tune up. Mere weeks later, I saw an ad for a Surly bike I was in the market for with a credit towards accessories(plus 10% discount on said accessories). They had the bike in the size AND color I wanted and hooked me up with all the accessories I would need to take my first bike tour. They were very accommodating and ordered a few things for me, including a women’s specific saddle. They have new bikes and used bikes with some cool brands like Yuba and Fyxation. As I mentioned, their staff will order things if they are not already in stock and give good recommendations based on your needs. They’re also not in existence to rip you off, which makes shopping at your LBS much more enjoyable.

Love these guys… Definitely a neighborhood gem here in Riverwest. I love the fact that there’s no bullshit about it — don’t expect to walk in and be over-stimulated with a shitstorm of «cycling lifestyle» merchandising, and a swarm of over-zealous employees trying desperately to sell you the same model biking underwear Lance Armstrong wore — before he started doping. Nope. Just a really cool, knowledgable shop owner who knows his shit when it comes to bikes, is more than happy to offer advice, tips, etc, even if you aren’t paying for anything, and who will quote you a fair, transparent price when you are. Because they don’t fuck around and know what they’re doing, it never seems like their shop is backlogged, so anytime I’ve needed a repair I couldn’t do myself, they’ve had my bike back on the road pretty much instantaneously. Can’t recommend them enough; wish every business was as awesome as Truly Spoken.

This is a great little shop. They have a good selection of new bikes, rims/wheels, tires, helmets, lights, other protective gear. A few used bikes are included in their offerings as well. I’ve been through a couple times now, once for some break pads, again for a new tire. Prices were very reasonable both trips, I had the new tire mounted and trued for the cost of ordering and shipping one from online. The technicians I’ve spoken with at the shop have all been kind, hard working, and quite knowledgeable. Next time I need anything bike related, I’ll be heading back here.

Quick story: My bike was lifted from(inside!!) my building back in college, and in the years hence I have hesitated to get back on. But I mean, riding a bike is one of the greatest things ever, so I knew eventually I would return to the fold. I have returned to the fold. On(excellent) advice from my buddy and fellow working musician Adam(heard of the Amazing Milwaukee Race/On Bikes? That’s him) I walked over to Truly Spoken and am very, very glad I did. I was lucky to receive help(as did our own local Unilocal arbiter Rachel F.) from Joshua, who answered all of my questions thoughtfully and who, recognizing my impatience to get back on the saddle, set me up on a bike that will function very well for me for now while leaving room in my wallet for an upgrade in the future. (The future was almost two days later when I stopped back in and spotted an awesome, orange, Japanese racing bike on the floor, just in. I held back. Barely. Definitely took it for a spin.) Like any professional, it stands to reason that a bike repair person would have a paricular area of interest/knowledge/expertise within their given discipline. Joshua indicated to me that his(or one of his, perhaps) is *fit, and took pains to watch me ride the old DiamondBack hybrid he had very recently re-hauled, ensuring that the frame was sized correctly for me and that the saddle and handlebars were situated correctly. Hearty recommendation, and lucky for me they’re in my ‘hood!

Truly Spoken is a great bike shop. I can stop in for anything in a pinch and they have it. They did some work on my bike(including cassette and chain replacement and tune-up type work) and had it back to me the next day. They are always very affordable, quick and convenient. I am very happy that this is my neighborhood bike shop and I recommend them to everyone I know.

It’s bike to work week! How fitting that I am reviewing a bike shop! This place is great. I needed my back tire & tube replaced so I walked my bike over to these guys. It was a Saturday afternoon, and they were able to help me right away. I like that they guy went through all the different tires they had and explained how each one holds up to things. In the end, I just went with the basic tire… BECAUSE I DONOTBELIEVEINFRILLSGETTHEMAWAYFROMME. They also have a sweet selection of new bikes for sale, and some used ones as well. Also to be had are various biking accessories, of course. Highly recommend these guys.

A true neighborhood bike shop. My neighbor runs this shop and he is a good man. I’ve had a tune-up and some minor repairs done here. They do a good job, don’t charge an arm+leg, don’t try to upsell. Bonus: this place feels like Portlandia.
