This is the best independent book store in the state. I specializes in small press offerings and poetry. Plan to spend a lot of time browsing for works you can not find elsewhere.

Woodland Pattern is a gem. If you’ve never been there, it is time to go. It’s less a bookstore than a curated collection of art. They are closed on Mondays.

Its impressive — and unique for Milwaukee — selection of books on Native American and Latin American arts, history, culture, and politics highly recommends Woodland Pattern. However, its true genius is poetry. If you care at all about poetry — especially small press poetry, journals, chapbooks, and the like — then Woodland Pattern is the place for you. Its poetry selections alone make the place a North Coast — and likely national — treasure.
