I ate here for the first time on Christmas Eve of 2015. It seemed like everyone was there for take out or dine in that day! But the food quality surprised me. As an Asian, I didn’t think Americanized Chinese is anywhere comparable to authentic Chinese food at other restaurants. But I loved their house pork fried rice! It was literally a plate full of ingredients and a good balance of that with the rice. We also tried the house lo mian which was equally delicious. Of course, we also ordered the most popular item which was the General Tsao’s chicken. I liked it — it was a lot of food — the portions are very generous compared to other take out places. Aside from the food, the place was pretty clean and service was quick. I would return again if I am in the area!

Great food! The chow mein is delicious with fresh veggies and tasty meat, giant fried prawns and yummy spring rolls. Has a nice atmosphere with friendly employees. All around a great experience and good pricing for the quality of food(cheaper than other chinese food restaurants I have been to)

This was my second try at liking Imperial Garden. What a disgusting mess I brought home to my family and friends. We ordered $ 86 worth of food and the only half way good thing was the fried shrimp(the batter was good, but there was way too much of it…2 bites with shrimp, 2 bites without. First off, I was told 15 – 20 minutes to pick up. When I got there I saw 3 boxes with food containers in them, incomplete orders. One of them turned out to be mine. I have a feeling that the reason a lot of our food was so bad was because it had been sitting in a container on the counter for 30 plus minutes. I waited 30 minutes while they completed my order. Yes, it was a large order, but not complicated. The people that worked on my order were very nice, but did not apologize for the wait. We ordered Sweet & Sour Pork, Sweet & Sour Chilcken, Almond Chicken, Kung Pao Chicken, General Tsao Chicken, Crab Puffs(didn’t get them) 2 orders of the Special Chow Mein(one spicy, one not) and fried rice. The sweet and sour sauce had no flavor except a little ketchuppy. All of the deep fried items were soggy and cold(except shrimp, which had a couple of teaspoons of oil at the bottom of the box… yuk) The chow mein that was not spicy, had a wierd taste like rotten cabbage or corn… I could not eat it. Both chow mein dishes were filled with over cooked(possibly frozen) vegetables… the noodles were overcooked so it was just a big pile of mush… horrible! I add sour cream to mild salsa because it is too hot for me and I could eat the Kung pao chicken. it was so bland and not hot at all! The almond chicken on the other hand was just bland with a back lash of heat and it is not suppose to be hot. General Tsao chicken was bland but hot(not sweet and hot) and soggy. Steamed Rice was cold. Fried Rice was not fried, it was just steamed rice with a little egg, peas and carrots added in. Got one crab puff on a combo it was dried out and the filling had been fried out of it. couldn’t taste crab. My family and the friends that ate with us will never, and I mean never eat there. again. pao

Probably the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had :(everything was over sauced and the rice was just white rice with frozen peas and carrots in them. Even my sister who thought that Chinese food couldn’t go wrong couldn’t eat this food!

Best Chinese food I’ve ever had. I’ve been all up and down the west coast, to China Towns near and far. Even been up to Canada in Vancouver and Victoria with heavy Asian populations. The food served at Imperial Gardens in little old Milwaukie, Oregon is the best I’ve had without paying $ 100 a plate. Best Hot and Sour Soup and General Tso Chicken ever concocted. Been going since I was 7 years old and I’m now 25. I recently moved out of town but my last meal in town was this place. That should tell you all you need to know.

We love this place. I always order General Tso’s Eggplant because it’s delicious. Their lunch specials are cheap and the amount of their servings are good. One of the servers does not know how to smile though, but the cashier is very friendly. Once again, the food here are delicious and affordable.

I am so glad I found this place! I live really close by, and up until now I’d been driving out to Beaverton for good Chinese food. The food has always been really fresh and good quality.

Well, we’ve eaten a total of three times here with decending levels of satisfaction. The second trip, I tried the Seafood Noodle Soup — while large and filling, the overall flavor was not worth ordering again. I think it’s a matter of care taken in the broth and they probably just don’t sell enough to invest into making it special. Sorry guys. I did get some free Kimchee which was the plain nappa cabbage type, which is fine. On our third trip, we ordered the top dinner combo which came with a sizzling rice soup, which again was just okay — like a fancy egg drop soup with more stuff in it… Nothing offensive, but not that special. our entrees, mooshu pork and sesame beef. The mooshoo was standard and I always kinda like this dish where ever i go, and there’s a lot of consistency in how it’s made surprizingly. Shredded cabbage, black woodear mushroom, egg, bean sprout, pork and these papery wrapper tortillas. the sesame beef was not good, even for my wife who normally likes the Amecian-chinese type of food. We left most of it on the platter and they felt bad and offered to replace the dish at the end for a to go order. Well, i ordered the szhchuan eggplant and sadly it as more sweet than spicy. I was really hoping for garlic-black bean sauce egg plant like mom would make. And the appetizers were all pretty passable junk. So if compelled to eat here again, I’d probably stick with their black bean chicken with veggies or that twicecooked pork but that’s probably the extent of the menu worth repeating, even for 5.99 Just down the road, there’s another Szchuan place to try…

This is solid Chinese food. I have been going there for over 30 years. The prices are reasonable and the portions are generous. The pot stickers are a great way to start dinner. The Mo Shu Pork is great. For vegetarians, try the Family Style Bean Curd. The Palace Beef is worth a shot. For fried rice, try the Imperial Fried rice. The Imperial Noodles are great. Lastly, the Sechzuan Noodles compliment all dishes. I would recommend this as a quiet place to take friends for decent Chinese food.

I went to lunch for a few of us and I wanted Chinese food. Well I was having a hard time finding something on the menu that had a good mix. Nothing comes with chowmein it’s a side dish so that odd. I finally got 3 things. I didn’t feel the prices were very good but I wanted some Chinese food. Well big mistake. Nobody enjoyed a single item. The side of chowmein for $ 5.95 looked as bad as it tasted. The small portion of teriyaki chicken was pretty chewy. The appetizer plate was terrible. The BBQ pork looked odd colored and the shrimp tasted only like cooking oil no shrimp flavor at all. The egg roll I spit out the first bite and went waste entirely. The crab puff was the best of everything but you can’t fill 3 people up on 3 crab puffs. I wouldn’t waste a dollar on that food. I bet homeless starving people would rather pass that eat this disgusting food.

Have purchased take out from here 3 times. All three times were very disappointing. Fried rice burnt twice. General Tsao’s was flavorless, chicken was dry. Egg flower soup was bland, weird consistency. The worst was the won-ton noodle soup, soup was cloudy, extremely over cooked pork, won tons were mush, no flavor. The noodles were disgusting, like they had been sitting in water for awhile. Took one bite and couldn’t stomach it. Only positive, the people who work here are pretty friendly.

It’s been my personal experience that it is hard to find good food in the Milwaukee area. Well, Imperial Garden is a rose among thorns in Milwaukee. My quest to find the best Chinese in Portland(and surrounding area) continues. The place is clean, the service pleasant and the food is very good. First off– I apply my «Hot and Sour Soup Test” — *I love Hot and Sour soup when done right. However, I have found that it can range anywhere from inedible to incredible at any given restaurant. I think this is very telling, because: A) This is generally the first thing to come to your table, this is their first food impression, and, B) The quality & taste of this soup is very often telling on how the rest of the meal will be. The Hot and Sour at Imperial Garden didn’t disappoint. I was in at lunchtime and ordered a very inexpensive lunch special for $ 6. General Tso’s chicken. This came with a cup of Hot and Sour, a spring roll, two wontons and the entrée/rice. This soup is excellent. Very fresh and tasty. If I was returning home immediately after lunch, I would have ordered a large to go. The apps come on the plate. Everything was very fresh, tasted very good and you get a good amount of it. I wasn’t overly thrilled with the General Tso’s, the sauce was a little heavy, but it was still very good. Overall, Imperial Garden is a really good Chinese place I would gladly return anytime I’m in the Milwaukee area. Hopefully, next time I’m in, I can also order some soup to go.

When I used to work close by, The Imperial Garden was my favorite place to lunch. Not only was the food terrific, but they take a personal interest to make sure you were served well. It was natural then, when clients came to town that I would often treat them to a great Chinese lunch. When these clients returned they would always request that we visit again. Last week I was working close by and made sure I stopped for lunch again. All I can say the food was better than I remembered. My favorite lunch — Gen. Tso’s Chicken

I’m in shock that this place gets 4 stars on Unilocal. In no way could this restaurant ever be mistaken for 3 stars or even 2. Microwaved, tough, heavy sauce Chinese food. Absolutely disgusting.

good, wonderful and great! :) This place is a simple, classic family owned restaurant. The manager who greets you as you walk in has been the same for years and always has a smile. The food is wonderful and prices are fair. Their hot and sour soup is delicious and what I have had from their menu has always been fresh and tasty. The staff is friendly and will always make sure you have enough water ;) a must stop by if you are in the mood for chinese

Heard good & bad about this establishment so decided to give it a try. This was the first time in a long time that the Sweet & Sour Chicken, or any Sweet & Sour of any variety that I’ve had in a LONG time that actually had more than the meat & sauce in it! Their Sweet & Sour Chicken actually also had pineapple, bell pepper and carrot in it and was very good. I also had their Hot & Sour soup which was very good. Large portion of food and very reasonable prices. I will definetly return to try other menu items.
