Habacu’s

On a 5 good scale, the food was a 2 and the service was a 1. This is based on our last 2 experiences. The food was too salty and the service was non exisrent. Once in a blue moon would be way too frequent.

I wrote this review on June 14, 2014. It changed the date when I updated.
Well despite all the bad reviews, I have lived all over the US and lived right around great Mexican friends from Colorado to Texas and the food is authentic Mexican Food and it is great food. I have been back many times over.

Ok, I want to say the three stars are a generalization, because food, service, value, and atmosphere all rate differently.
Food was 5 stars. Everything we got (mexiplate with a substitution and husband got bbq fajitas) was great. Queso and salsa were great. Margaritas were really good and the 2 for 1 special was awesome.
Atmosphere, location, parking, value, all really good. The restaurant is lively and parking is easy for a downtown environment.
Service. Awful. We were there for nearly an hour and 45 minutes for dinner on a Thursday night (arrived around 6:30). After placing our order, food took 30 minutes. When we finished eating, we sat there for 25 minutes waiting for the check. We were never offered water with our beer and margaritas, and saw the server so little we couldn’t ask for it so gave up. We ran out of chips for a bit. He was terribly busy, so my guess was they are understaffed. Every server was like a blur through the place. We only were approached by our server to get drinks, take the order, bring the food, refill drinks once, and to deal with the check. We had to ASK for napkins and silverware about 30 minutes after we arrived at our table.
We would come back because the food was that good, but we would be prepared to be there a while and not be starving.

Very good food and awesome atmosphere. They have live bands all the time in addition to the good food.
Admittedly, the service is ok but what can you expect from Minden, La. I’ve noticed they have started to upgrade the servers.
The choice of alcohol is definitely good too and it doesn’t make you feel like you’re at a high school party like other places in Minden that serve.
The white queso and jalepeños poppers are the local favorites.

It was so good the first time… but yikes… the food really was not good my second visit. I was very very disappointed! The salsa was good but nothing else!

Quick and friendly service, many options on the menu, and energetic atmosphere. If you are looking for a quiet place to eat, this is not for you. But, if you are looking for festive and lively this is where it’s at.

Service is okay…
The food ha, not authentic Mexican food at all I ordered enchiladas and a chicken taco… The enchiladas had white sauce on it and peas and carrots in the Spanish rice wth? My taco was on a flour tortilla, very far cry from Mexican food in Cali…
The best thing about this place are the blue margaritas, ill pass on the food.

I spit out and nearly threw up at the first bite of tamale. It smelled like dead animal and tasted like putrid meat. My husband said it smelled like ruined meat. I never touched anything else & neither did my husband. We left and will never return. My husbands fork was dirty. The waitress took forever to get our beer and another waitress came and took our order for a beer. It is total chaos with the staff. I have never witnessed such unorganization in a restaurant. What a shame to be right across from the courthouse where there is so much business.

We first ate at Habacu’s when it was out at 532… it was probably the worst Mexican food I have ever had. So we delayed our second visit (we have a two strike rule). We finally went back a few days ago to their new downtown location and I must confess the food was pretty good. We had the fajitas. Not many choices for good food in Minden so we won’t wait so long to go back. I did not check for a wireless internet connection.
