I ordered delivery from here a couple times now and it has been pretty good. Not amazing but pretty good. I think the specialty waffles are a little bit lacking in certain departments. I would recommend just some straight up plane old coffee and waffles.

I’ve been here several times. Their waffles aren’t bad, they’re tasty and look great. But $ 8 for a single waffle? Kind of excessive. Not to mention that it takes you about $ 20 to get that waffle. So that’s problem number one. My main complaint is that the place is DIRTY. If you want to sit down, you better be prepared to wipe your own table down. The seating is very uncomfortable and awkward. You feel like you’re in the way. The section attached to the main area isn’t bad, but they randomly closed it around 8:30pm when their close time was 10pm. So there were customers that came in that literally had to stand and wait for one of the 5 booths to open up. Bad idea. Doesn’t seem like they sweep, mop, or clear tables and the employees have that«whatever» hipster/college student attitude. Oh wait, did I mention there were mouse traps? If you’re gonna charge $ 8 for a waffle, I think you can order professionals to deal with that problem. Disappointing.

I have been here three times for their waffles and coffee. Last month, I was recommended the place by a friend and his boyfriend who both frequent here. This is a good place for a good lunch/brunch on the weekend. The weekend is the only time I have ever been here. I love that the interior has an artsy feel to it. I see a little industrial, a little modern, and a little woodsy feel to it. Yet, it is simple. Whoever designed the layout has a creative mind. Therefore, this place appears to appeal mostly to the young hipster community. That is not to say that the older generation like myself cannot enjoy this place. I enjoy it a lot. The employees appear to do a great job at keeping the dining area clean and in order. Other than newspapers lying around, I have never had any major issues with leftover messes. Therefore, I have always felt comfortable sitting down and enjoying a good meal. The employees are always friendly and appear eager to please. They are fantastic with any suggestions they may have and any questions I may have. I have seen some of them, while they are cleaning, reach out to their customers while the customers are eating. They also serve the plates within a reasonable amount of time. I have never had to wait any longer than five minutes for my order. Every time I have eaten here, I have ordered the strawberry shortcake waffles with a cup of black coffee. The waffles are always served to me hot and fresh, and they taste delicious. I have never once had to use syrup on my waffles, even though it always comes on the side. My one suggestion with the coffee is for them to watch how many coffee beans they put in the filter when brewing it because most of the time, the coffee is served a little too strong. When I am in the area and in the mood for some good waffles for lunch/brunch, I will continue keeping this place in mind. I feel like I can count on them for a good meal and a good overall experience.

Interesting, cool, hip place to try. I tend to go for a much different type of food by my teenager had it on her list to check out. We came for a late lunch. The waffle selections are pretty good. I would love to see some more non-sweet waffles besides ham & Swiss. I’m not a fan of ham but bacon is ok. They were awesome about substituting the ham for bacon. I had a Rose latte with coconut milk. Kudos for being a rare coffee shop that offers coconut milk instead of just soy or almond(which they have as well for non dairy choices). I didn’t really taste the Rose in it but I tend to love stronger than usual floral notes. My daughter said she could taste it in the aftertaste… so maybe it my pregnancy taste buds? It was a cool place to check out. We will be back next time we are craving a waffle and the aesthetic atmosphere.

Amazing waffles! I’m going to say it again, AMAZING waffles! I highly suggest the strawberry cheesecake waffle, I get it every time I go. I have tried more than half of the waffles they offer and I have never been disappointed, NEVER. It’s a nice place to just sit and talk for awhile and the coffee is great too! Absolutely no complaints… NONE!

So so. Uncomfortable seating. Food is expensive. We have five in our group and they only have one table in the whole place that seats more than like two or three. The coffee is good but the orders weren’t right. My other pet peeve– the bathroom was really gross.

Overpriced, although my waffle(the muddsucker) was good. I went on a weekday around brunch time, and it was very crowded. My friend and I had to wait for seats to open up. The coffee was much too acidic for my taste, so next time I would stick with tea or water.

I had a pretty good experience. It seems like a great place to hang out with friends. The waffles were pretty good. I had the strawberry cheese cake and my cousin had the naughty waffle something along the lines like that. The cashier was VERY patient with me I honestly had no clue what to get. She recommended me the strawberry cheesecake and i liked it. I wish there was a way for the water to be cold. It was warm and seems like they don’t put ice in there to cool it down.

This is one of my favorites places to go if I’m looking for a waffle. They have a good selection of options and each month they have a special that’s available. Their dogwood coffee is really good too. Be careful if you’re gonna go on a weekend because the shop is relatively small and there is a good chance you will have to wait for a spot for 45 minutes to an hour. My advice would be to go on a weekday, or as early as you can. Other than that it’s one of my favorite places to come for a waffle and some coffee.

This used to be muddsuckers which was a local favorite. They closed and reopened, all they did was throw paint up, added a large screen tv and changed the menu to waffles and coffee only. They should have considered ventilation over a tv maybe since the air is filled smoke from the waffle makers which hits you when you enter. Chaos describes this«new and improved» coffee shop perfectly. This starts at the door with employees yelling at the customers to get in line, move over, order here… then they continue to scream out names of people when the coffee or tea is ready. Maybe they should consider a sign with instructions or remodeling again, to create the invisible lines they want you to stand in. The waffles are pretty amazing, I will give them that. The coffee isn’t bad either, if you don’t mind a wait. Although I generally don’t have 20 – 45 minutes to wait for a latte or waffle, especially when UP Café and Empire are blocks away. I miss muddsuckers!

Meh. It was okay. They were blowing up on social media so I thought I’d check this place out. Atmosphere was lacking and the place was freezing! The waffles are very adorable and photograph worthy, but the rest of the place just looked kind of sad and crowded. Service was okay, but nothing spectacular. The wait seemed too long and did not justify the quality of the food and drinks. I had a smores waffle and chai latte. While both were tasty, they were nothing special(I preferred the chai over the waffle actually). I could have made a waffle at home with a similar end result. My brunch date had plain coffee and did not like it. But he also ordered the naughty waffle and was a fan of that. The serving size was also tiny — we both left hungry. And wanting bacon. I would not go out of my way to eat here again.

Woke up and I was excited for waffles! My girlfriend and I dropped in here and the place was packed! It was uncomfortable how packed it was, and it looked kinda dirty and unwelcoming and the kitchen was on max furnace, and it was the middle of summer, and I guess the A/C was broken that day and the wait for waffles was 20 minutes(wtf???). I’m from Houston so I tolerate heat and humidity very well, but OHHHMAMAAAAA. The $ 8 waffles can’t be delicious enough to warrant being absolutely miserable for 20 minutes(maybe they are… NAHHHH). We got a cold press and peaced out. I love coffee but I couldn’t stand whatever my girlfriend ordered after the first sip. HIPSTERHYPEEEEE

I popped in here after a meeting with my sports medicine doctor(knee issues). I decided it was going to be a ‘treat yo’self’ day and this spot has been on my list for quite some time. The floors could definitely do with a fresh coat of something, but the tables were clean and metal chairs simple. Now, if a restaurant has a specific food item in their title, I’m going to assume that it’s the best ever, or at the very least they strive to be. I ordered a miel with soy and the strawberry cheesecake waffle. What I was expecting: a cream cheese infused batter with graham cracker pieces either mixed in or broken on top with fresh made whipped cream. What I got: a standard batter mix that was chewy with cream cheese on top and the smallest crumbs ever scattered around the plate. And ready whip. Cue sad trumpet noises. It was still good enough where I ate all of it, but if you’re claiming to be a waffle place your batter needs to be on point and definitely not chewy when you cook it. An ideal waffle is lightly crisp on the outside and moist on the inside with lots of air to make it fluffy. You achieve this with your batter ingredients and whisking. Fresh whipped cream is easily made in batches and can then be stored in pressurized containers so it doesn’t melt. Black Dog could easily incorporate this to up their game. On the drink side, my miel tasted like a latte with no presence of honey or cinnamon. Still good, but not what I ordered. Overall it’s an okay place if you’re about to go hulk hogan unless you fill you’re belly, but you could probably make better waffles at home.

The ventilation must not be good, because first thing I noticed was the cloud of smoke. It’s a small so sound echos. Since it’s in NE you’ll see a lot of college students. The tables were sticky with syrup and overall the place didn’t look hygienic. The waffles looked appealing, however, it tasted sub par. The consistency was like rubber. Cheap like Eggo waffles. Enjoyed the toppings: almond butter, strawberries, blueberries, bananas, granola, and whipped cream. Liked the idea, but was very disappointed considering they only have waffles on the menu.

Talk about a 180. Back in my day, this place was called Muddsucker’s. They still served coffee and waffles, but the place was grunge, through and through. I hated it then due to the omnipresent smokers, seemingly of the anarchist variety, just outside the front door. Now I hate it for different reasons. The remodel is great. It’s more modern, and they expanded into the space next door. I always liked the curved shape of the shop and, specifically, the bar. But I went in on a Saturday morning to get a coffee(that Dogwood everyone goes wild for). The place was packed with sorority girls and frat bros, which is fine, I just feel like Black tricked these fine folks into thinking that throwing some toppings on a waffle and charging $ 14 for it is a good brunch experience. Also, I don’t know if the Twin Cities is just favoring local over flavor, or if I got the bottom of the barrel, but my coffee sucked.

This review is for my latte and the service. I didn’t have one of the waffles but now I really want to. I see this place pop up on my instagram all the time and the waffles are beautiful. I was meeting a friend next door at Obento-Ya for dinner but I was early so I popped in for a quick coffee while I waited. The guy working was so nice and chatted to me and made some suggestions for smaller treats that they had to snack on. In the end I opted for an almond milk latte and was happy that they had unsweetened almond milk. Score. The latte art was a little weak but that’s okay. The latte was fabulous. The atmosphere was also great. I loved it. Very charming place. I’ll be back for a waffle for sure.

Black Coffee & Waffle bar is the biggest craze on social media, so of course I wanted to try it out. I love the design of the place — the wall on its exterior that is painted(picture friendly wall!), the logo, concept, interior, etc. is pretty! The first time I went was around 11am on a Sunday which the worst idea I could’ve had. The place was PACKED, hot, and the staff seemed to be overly annoyed. When I say packed, it seemed like it was packed full with young girls Instagramming their waffles and people still sitting at tables with empty plates for a while, which I probably should have expected… The waffles are very picture worthy though! When we walked in, they quickly looked up and looked annoyed, and kept doing what they were doing. Someone yelled there was a 2 hour wait, so we were out the door real quick! Haha. I’ve been back at a better time(I think around 3pm on a Sunday), and it was much better! I got the naughty waffle which was good, but the people I was with got a s’mores waffle that I tried and it was too sweet for me. It’s like candy packed on top of a waffle. I like the naughty waffle because of the fruit, and the nut butter topping makes it much better. I do see this place as more of a dessert though. The waffles really aren’t that amazing — nothing crazy special and pretty pricey, but the atmosphere is cool and makes for good pictures. The coffee is good — I’m a fan of Dogwood! Overall, I think the staff can get a little snappy, but I’m sure they’re just stressed. I would appreciate it to be a more inviting and friendly place with the staff though. I would recommend not going at peak eating times if you want to try this place!

overall pretty good. great atmosphere and fast service. small but effective menu. I prefer a more crispy on the outside waffle, but flavor was there. Topping combination are generous, you will not leave hungry. I have only been here once, will have to ask for a little over done waffle next time and see how it goes.

I stopped by Black Coffee and Waffle Bar for a meeting the other day, and the place definitely transported me back to my college days. Errbody rocked a book-bag, dressed in maroon sweatpants, and had loud conversations about what party they were going to hit up and how they didn’t understand o-chem. #reminisce Except, I went to UW-Madison, so, yeah. Just different colors. ***** There are two general seating areas: the main entrance — which extends to the right — that has several retro and leather booth-mini table-metal chair combos, and the brightly lit room to the left with a gigantic wooden table and two seaters around the edge. Overall, the décor is cool, but I mainly had a problem with the cleanliness of the place: the floors were covered in mud, the tables had peanut butter on them, and the rest of the furniture appeared to be in disarray.(Sigh.) As a person that’s somewhat Type A and OCD about things being reasonably aligned, I felt my skin crawling.(Or, it could’ve been the cold weather making my skin dry, thus causing irritation.) I don’t know, mannnnnn. Aside from the setup, like the name says, there’s your typical list of traditional drinks and waffles galore! I would’ve loved to indulge in one of those #carbcity goodies, but didn’t think it would be proper for a meeting. I simply bought their medium chai latte($ 4.25) and Pumpkin Java Cookie($ 1.25). Both were tasty. *Note: I found it hilarious that my receipt for the cookie said«Pumpkin Java Cookie(Day Old).» Black Coffee and Waffle Bar, do you charge the same for both day old and freshly baked cookies? What’s up with that? Lol. It’s best for you to leave me in the dark. I would consider returning for a waffle.
