Amazing food and great service. Our first visit but not our last. Had a few appetizers, Empanadas, Ceviche, and Yuca Frita. Split the Hornado con Papas. Delicious!

This place is an absolute gem! Great ethnic food that goes way beyond the usual. I could eat the caldo de bolas de verde every time. It’s a unique vegetable soup in a peanut broth with a meat ball surrounded by plantain. So nourishing and satisfying!

Great food for good prices. If you like Brasa you’re gonna love Chimborazos. I recommend the flank steak and mahi mahi

This was a great find! I had the mahi mahi in a coconut sauce with rice and it was excellent. The fig and cheese dessert was also tasty. They serve wine, beer and mimosas. We will definitely go back again. A very happy and lively crowd and good service.

Love this place! When you first drive up you might take a second look and wonder if it’s realy the right place. It’s small(so you might have to wait) and it’s north of all of the other businesses right in the residential district. You might end up with street parking because the little lot fills up quite fast. But the food. .. authentic and delicious! We started with platano maduro(fried sweet plaintains with cheese on top and a spicy sauce on side) and yucca fries. Since I am more a fan of savory, I preferred the yucca with it’s tart sauce, but everyone totally enjoyed the plaintaines. I enjoyed the special when we were there. It included a little of everything – rice, potatoes, chicken, beans, plantains – a great sampler. We also had the fried rice – full of shrimp, chicken and pork – delicious! And don’t leave without trying the tres leches for dessert. If you didn’t save room, get a piece to take home – you will be so happy you did. It’s super moist and just sweet enough. The staff is attentive and it is very kid friendly. The place is kind of loud, but in a festive sort of way. The one warning if you are with a big group – they don’t separate checks, so have your calculator handy to practice your math :)

Never a bad experience! Make sure you arrive right or near after they open otherwise you will be waiting a bit for a table in this small but amazing restaurant. The starting dishes are all amazing, but I am partial to the llapingachos(basically a cheesy potato pancake) that is served with a spicy peanut sauce, num! Wednesday night is a great deal with their«date night» special that is two entrees(from a choice of 3) and a bottle of wine for $ 35, you can’t beat that!

Cute little Ecuadorean joint with really good food. The menu is in Spanish and with no pictures. You definitely want to read the reviews and select a popular app or entrée. I tried the beef Saltado & ordered it extra spicy. The spice was different but yet so yummy and added a nice kick to the dish. Beef was not chewy and was very soft. It comes with potatoes and if you like it crunchy ask for it on the side bc the sauce will make it soggy. We also had cheese empanadas I would eat that last as dessert. The beef empanadas were good with the green sauce and onions together. The yucca fries… absolutely amazing and the app that’s starts with the letter«L» the cheesy potatoe thing, it’s ok some pieces had more cheese than the other and unfortunately my bite had no cheese. Overall good and will come back.

Busy spot for dinner on Friday night! Got there around 7pm last night and place was hopping. There was a wait/line running down the hall, but we got seated within a few minutes anyway. Small place, with as many tables as you can pack in there. There’s not a lot of room and I was seated at a two-top next to the kitchen and along the aisle. My view was the kitchen and cooks cranking out Ecuadorean/Peruvian dishes at a pretty good clip. Really tasty vittles! We shared the shrimp ceviche appetizer and I had the Encocado with mahi mahi and my bf had the Seco De Pollo. Prices are decent and the portions aren’t skimpy. This is a place I’d go to more often if I lived in NE Mpls.

I’ve had this place on my list for at least five years now and I’m so glad I finally made it. Due to the cozy size of the space, I’d recommend keeping your group size small — two is ideal for their setup and four is OK — but with five or more, expect to be waiting a while for a table. The steak churrasco was outstanding with a fried egg, rice, beans and sweet plantain on the side. The chimichurri was awesome on top of the steak. Everything I tasted was outstanding and full of big flavor. Based on other Unilocalers’ reviews, we were expecting slower service, but that wasn’t our experience — everyone was very attentive and quick to refill water, ask about beverages and bring the bill when we were finished. We didn’t go there expecting such a good value, but they’ve got some great prices on South American wines by the glass and bottles for under $ 25, as well as bottled beer for $ 4. If you’ve been finding excuses not to go like I was, stop it! We’ll be back soon to try more of the menu.

Chimborazo is a shining example of the food being so good, you don’t even care if it took your server 15 minutes to stop by long enough to fill up your water glass, and then walk away without taking your order. Sometimes things are worth your patience — and Chimborazo is. If you’re looking for fast and friendly service here, you might be looking in the wrong place. Be ready for a wait, both to get seated — this tiny space fills up quickly! — and to put in an order. I’d highly recommend the yuca frita as an appetizer(fried cassava with garlic and served with green sauce), the caldo de bolas de verde(a peanut broth soup with starchy vegetables and a green plantain dumpling filled with meat and more veggies), the saltado(chicken or beef with peppers, onions, and tomatoes, served with rice and avocado), and the sweet plantains for dessert. Despite never really having good service, I find myself constantly wanting to go back here, especially in the dead of winter.

Good gracious this place is good! I got to try the SALTADO(a little spicy beef with an awesome slightly sour sauce), ENCOCADO(amazing mahi with a rich sauce and rice) and CHURRASCO(chicken served with rice and an egg on top!). Whatever the green dipping sauce is – enjoy it! Great with the plantains. Can’t wait to come back and try everything else that was recommended!

This little restaurant with delicious Latin food is another great example of being able to find some extraordinary, however delightful unassuming restaurants on Unilocal!Places that I never heard of before and would never would have thought to try. This place was a good find! I’m glad I searched some out of the box restaurants with good reviews for lunch. The food was excellent! I’ve never had Ecuadorian food before but I will be back to try again. I started out with beef empanadas and they were full of sliced meat. I think I have had an empanada before however, these were amazing. Main course was a form of chicken stir fry with yellow and red peppers rice and potatoes in a spicy sauce called Saltado. It was full of flavor and just plain wonderful! Can’t wait to come back and bring some friends.

This was my second time here– and it was delicious as expected. There is nothing fancy about this place, but the servers and the food make it superb! We were out to dinner with friends so we started with the yuca frita and llapingachos for appetizers. The fried cassava was nice and crisp and the green aji criollo dipping sauce was tangy and good. The peanut sauce for the llapingachos had a nice kick to it and went well with the potato/cheese cakes. Our main dishes included the both the beef and chicken saltado, the churrasco(with the flank steak) and the encocado(with the shrimp). Both saltados had a nice spice and great flavor. The flank steak was nice and tender and had a good grilled flavor. You could smell the coconut in the sauce for the encocado. Needless to say, we all cleaned our plates and unfortunately, had no room for dessert. We plan to come back again to try the ceviche and the fried rice! My only complaint is that we came during a busy time and there is no clarity about how to get a table. We were one of the first groups there and were at the head of the line, but the host randomly took the names of multiple groups coming in long after us who were at the back of the line before he even came over to us. We ended up being one of the last ones to get a table even though we where there and attempted to check in right away.

This place is AMAZING!!! One of the best in Minneapolis by far! The green sauce is addictive! Try the empanadas! The fried rice is better than anything in the city. Its a pretty small place so not good for big groups but it is highly recommended regardless.

I love their food, its very straight forward(as is most Hispanic cuisine). Rice– nice, beans– a bit plain, maduros– sweet, flank steak– tasty. Get a bit of everything with some runny egg on top and it’s a feast. Had the shrimp cerviche app, the flavor was great and it had the most interesting nut that was both burnt but not burnt at the same time. Good serving size and price. I haven’t had a hard time parking, there is usually street parking behind.

Ho-ly shiz! I am not overly familiar with Ecuadorian food, but if this is the norm of what to expect, I am a huge fan! The hubs and I went a bit early for the dinner hour, and while the back parking lot was full the restaurant was not. We were seated promptly, our waitress was helpful in recommending some dishes and keeping our water filled up. Good service all around, even once it started getting busy. We went with the ceviche for an app. Overall, tasty, but a bit expensive for what you get I think. I want to say it was $ 11, which is what some of the entrees cost! It was not your typical ceviche either — it was warm, had some plantain chips and had an accompanying sauce — probably their style of it. Like I said, still good, but I would be happier if it was a couple $ cheaper. Moving on though, our entrees — I got the coconut milk dish with shrimp, and the hubs got the beef stew dish(apologies for the lackluster names, I’m at work and can’t access the menu). Both came with rice, plantains, and a side of green sauce. I gotta say from the first mouthful, I was sold. We made buggy eyes at each other as we were eating to express how GD amazing the food tasted. We traded bites, his was good, but I preferred my coconut milk shrimp for sure. And that green sauce, omg. Dumped that on everything! We aren’t usually dessert people but decided to go with the figs and cheese as a light finish. They were perfect, if you like figs and cheese that is :) We are definitely going back! Pro tip, Tuesday is half price bottles of wine, and Wednesday is «date night» which IIRC was an app, 2 entrees, and a bottle of wine for $ 45(I think you get a limited selection of entrees to choose).

I came here later in the evening and I only had room for a snack. I tried the Yucca Fries and an empanada. The empanada was boring and I wouldn’t recommend it(I had mine without beef and that was probably a mistake) The fries, however, were very tasty. They came with a green sauce that had lots of flavor. I would love to come back here for a full meal. Also, the server was super friendly and they had a nice selection of beverages.

The food here is amazing! I absolutely love it… The service is usually terrible so if you prepare your heart accordingly and come with high expectations for food only you should be good! The fresh limeade is great as well. Orders have been wrong both times I’ve been here, but they took good care of it for us so that’s okay. Like I said– if you have a chill night with no agenda, this is a great place to grab some amazing Ecuadorian food!

Sometimes I worry that when I go to a place that’s so highly rated, it will skew my expectations, or I’ll be that one unlucky sap that gets the hair in my food that day. But Chimborazo, wowowowow. It exceeeeeded expectations! Someone recently recommended that I get the shrimp ceviche here, and I’m a ceviche freak. However, I usually am drawn to white fish and scallop ceviche, as I’ve found that shrimp can get too tough. Well Chimborazo says, «NAH!» and serves up a mouth-watering-ly tender and citrusy bowl of heaven’s tears, perfectly seasoned and dappled with fried corn and plantains for additional texture and flavor. I was able to build my own plate during my last visit = flank steak, mote, and llapingachos. I think most of the meals come with this«green sauce», and I don’t know what’s in it but you will be missing out if you’re not drinking this with your pinky up. I chose the mote to trick myself into thinking I was eating a healthy vegetable, and the llapingachos because they are freaking perfection — a savory potato patty filled with cheese. The flank steak was marinated so well — the flavor was so good I wanted to keep chewing and never swallow it. Ok that sounded gross. Get your ass to Chimborazo if you’ve never been. I’m ashamed it took me so long.

One fateful night almost two years ago, I fell in love with both Unilocal and Chimborazo. The scene: A photographer, a Zumba instructor and two flight attendants all needed a place to dine before heading to a beer tent. I had heard of Unilocal but had never used it before. I searched for restaurants in the general vicinity of Gastof’s and stumbled upon Chimborazo. Because what goes better with German beer and music than an Ecuadorian food precursor? I’ve now been to Chimborazo at least four times, the latest was just last week(yay, bigger patio!!). I am still head over heels for this place. I don’t care that there’s no place to wait if there is a wait. I will stand in a little hallway for your food, Chimborazo. I will sit at a table five inches away from other diners just for a taste of your flavorful and colorful food and a mere whiff of your inimitable green sauce. I’ve had the beef empanadas, the yuca frita(ridiculously good; the citrusy salsa on top is a perfect bite) the hornado con papas(tender pulled pork served with llapingachos, which are cheese-filled potato pancakes), saltado(chicken with peppers… spicy, just the way I like it) and my favorite, the chaulafan, which is fried rice with pork, chicken and egg(normally with shrimp, but I’m allergic and skip). This is not like fried rice you’ve had before. It is a perfect balance of the rice, the seasonings, the saltiness which doesn’t go overboard, and the protein. Douse it in the green sauce and it just gets 10x better. Oh, and let’s not forget the tres leches cake, which is not always executed properly in restaurants but at Chimborazo it definitely wins. I’ve not taken advantage of it yet, but there seems to be a date night special on Wednesday that gets you a bottle of wine and two entrees for a reduced price. Service has always been prompt and friendly. The restaurant is small and you might miss it the first time you try to find it, but definitely make the effort to go here.
