Elmer Andersen Library holds the archives for the University of MN as well as the archives of a number of other collecting units. The Performing Arts Archives hold the materials from several area dance and theatre groups. The Tretter Collection covers GLBT history and the Immigration History Research Center holds documents from immigrants in the area over the years. No matter what your topic is the archives in Elmer Andersen Library will have something. The primary sources are great for papers and projects.

Housing more than 1.5 million volumes of books, manuscripts, illustrations and artifacts the Elmer L. Andersen Library is a state treasure. Although Andersen lacks the study space of Wilson or Walter Library, Andersen is unique in that it houses the University of Minnesota Archives on the banks of the Mississippi River in two large granite caves. My favorite item in the collection is the manuscripts of Pulitzer Prize-winning poet John Berryman. Anderson library provides many services including: research help, access to the reading room to examine items from archives and special collections, photocopiers and scanners, help with their digital collections, and classroom instruction. Anderson Library is open 8 – 5 Monday, Tuesday and Friday and 8 – 7 Wednesday and Thursday.
