Dr. Fabel has been my dentist for 20+ years. My entire family sees him, and even some extended family. When family/friends need a dentist, I am always quick to recommend him. As stated in other reviews, his positive attitude and flexibility is what stands him apart from any other dentist I have seen. He is kindhearted and gentle and genuinely interested in helping you. He focuses on your needs without trying to break your wallet. He is a firm believer that YOUR teeth are the best thing for your mouth and therefore doesn’t try to mess with them too much in case of removal, crowns, bridges, fillings etc. As someone who didn’t have dental insurance out of college, he worked with me on payment plans and discounts to help cover the costs. He knew I was a long time patient and was interested in making sure I was helped, rather than charging crazy amounts of money. He volunteers in other countries to provide dental services to those less fortunate. And when the time came to refer me on to a specialist, he always recommended someone who had the same values as he – and honestly very similar personalities. He is only starting to talk about retirement — only in the last year. I hope that whenever he does decide to do so, that he continues to make the best referrals.

As I write this review, I realize that it has been almost 10 years since I was(technically) Dr. Fabel’s patient. He was(and still is, as far as I am concerned) my family’s dentist. One of the toughest things about moving around after college was never finding a dentist quite like him. Honestly, I even avoided dental care during grad school because everyone else complained about their horrifying experiences with other dentists. I never had a negative experience with Dr. Fabel’s or any of his staff. So naturally(and because I just don’t like change), it took a while to choose a new dentist. Flashback: two years ago. I found a nice dentist in my new state, got some fillings(it had been too long, I admit) and all was well… then I moved again. Cut to today. So there I am in the chair listening to this new dentist work the sales pitch for a ton of «cosmetic» stuff that I don’t need(mind you, much of it not covered by insurance– to the tune of over $ 2,400). With that«treatment plan» in my hand, I excused myself to make a quick phone call. I needed a second opinion. It is not just the fact that I am a graduate student and don’t have a lot of money to throw around– it is the principle of the matter. It makes me so mad that they were trying to convince me that I NEEDED this extra stuff to «save my teeth» when NONE of it was covered by my insurance(because it is considered cosmetic!!) So, who did I call? My family dentist, Dr. Fabel. He’s known me since I first HAD teeth. He is the guy I trust with all things dental, and he has always given it to me straight(even when lecturing me about flossing and avoiding soda as a teenager). So, he gave me the real story about my procedure(and saved me a lot of extra expense in the meantime). Honestly, after my experience today, I know that I will now join the other patients(my mother met one recently) that fly to MN just to see Dr. Fabel. Sure, I’ll get to see my folks, maybe eat something fried on a stick or some hot dish, but I know I will always get quality dental care from the sweetest, most caring and compassionate dentist around.
