Grumpy’s is a great dive bar. I regularly go there on my visits to the Twin Cities. I tried the pulled pork and kimchi fries today based on another Unilocalers review and I have to say thank you! Really a great flavor combination that goes great with a local draft.

Delicious food and unique atmosphere. I really liked this place — the food, vibe, and prices! My friend and I went on a Friday night around 8:30pm. We were able to get a table right away. Many tables near the bar and lots of standing area around the pool tables. The menu had many unique but classic items. I had the pulled pork and kimchi fries. YUMMMM! I ordered it as my meal and would do that again! My friend ordered the Seattle Dog — it was incredible! I parked in a nearby lot for $ 4 but I think there may have been more options than I thought.

Great food. Great beer. Friendly waitresses. Dive bar. Love it. The tater tots are amazing and I really love the variety on the menu. It doesn’t hurt that it’s a few blocks from my sons apartment.

High priced!!! I wasn’t too impressed here 14 dollars for a capt coke and 77 after tip I get that they are close to downtown but come on I can get to capt cokes for 4 bucks at my work. It’s a total hipster bar very dirty and dark bartender was ok very short with ppl tho the building is in need of an update…

Came in here several times — definitely a divey downtown neighborhood bar feel to it. Several pool tables, a couple of video games and pinball machines… They have a pretty good craft beer selection — with several from the local area as well as others. I had two local MN ales: — Cold Press Black Ale(6.0% ABV)(Bent Paddle Brewing Co.(Duluth, MN) — Furious IPA(6.6% ABV)(Surly Brewing Co., Minneapolis, MN) Beer was good, staff seems a little harried at times.

I like this place. It’s less comfortable and homey than the nordeast Grumpy’s, it’s very open and cold, but the staff is really nice. It, like Psycho Suzi’s, feels like it’s recreating something that was authentic once upon a time. Suzi’s tries and fails to capture the early 60s(i wasn’t around then, but i have been in *real* tiki bars. Suzi’s misses the mark by a mile), and this Grumpy’s feels like it’s trying to redo the punk/grunge/industrial bars of the 90s. Those i was around for, and this place is fairly close. Close enough, anyway. The very young staff was very nice to Hotdish and me, which is actually refreshing. I’m tired of going to bars to be served by Millenials dressed exactly the way i did 20 years ago, acting like they will never age. You’ll be 40 also, kiddettes, and karma’s a mean middle-aged lady. The drinks are perfect, but i haven’t tried the food. The stumble back to our hotel was nice.

Always great. Food, bar, service– it’s all good. I’ve been coming here for years and it is consistently a great decision. It’s not for you if you want sterile suburban atmosphere or a cheery teen that will forget half your order. You will get great drinks and great bar food. It’s just the right amount of divey and always delivers on quality. The nachos and tater tots are unmatched!

We live right in the neighborhood and love this little dive-y spot for a couple of beers and appetizers. There is always a large selection of beers on tap(including a lot of local and regional favorites) and the food is bar fare done well. The nachos are HUGE. The quesadilla is really tasty as well. I’ve had a couple of sandwiches which were pretty good as well. The back patio is lovely on a warm summer day.

I’ve been here once but had a great experience. Definitely divey like others have said. Trivia night is on Tuesday evenings and was so much fun. I think having teams of 3 – 4 are best; teams with 4+ people seem like they are more likely to win. Macaroni bites are good but have too much salt. Less salt would be better. Our server was super nice. Food seems pretty cheap, too. They have parking in the back, and the place is served by light rail and buses. If I’m back in town, I’ll be going back to trivia night.

I came here with my girlfriend before the July 4th fireworks to grab food to take over to our spot. It was our first time here. We called four hours ahead to pick up food. We arrived five minutes early and had to wait 15 minutes for the meal. The staff was very friendly and apologized for the wait. We picked up a quesadilla from the appetizer menu, she had the Chicken BLT wrap, and I ordered the Chicken Philly. We also ordered fries and tots. The quesadilla was great. Some restaurants try to short you on chicken or the size of the quesadilla but Grumpy’s certainly did not. It was very tasty, especially with the generous salsa and sour cream cups provided. Well worth it. My Chicken Philly turned out to be the Roast Beef Philly, but thankfully I didn’t mind. It was delicious in flavor and well seasoned. It was salty, but not quite too salty for my taste. I would definitely eat this again(I’d probably try the Chicken, but wouldn’t be disappointed with the Roast Beef). The fries were nothing special, but still tasty and well cooked. My girlfriend enjoyed her Chicken BLT wrap. Although it was nothing special(and definitely not close to being as big as her head as the menu indicates), she liked the taste and took half home to eat the next day. The tater tots were very tasty. Although they weren’t anything magical, they were definitely seasoned better than your average restaurant tots. In general: Grumpy’s has tasty food, great value, and the tots are worth trying. Service was poor, but I would be willing to go back again.

The Grumpys in Roseville was AMAZING, so I had really high hopes coming here. I was extremely let down. The waitress ignored us, and it took 10 minutes to get two drinks. The place was dark, dirty and clearly in need of some updating. After 20 minutes we finally got our food(a burger and a salad) and we couldn’t even finish our meals. The chicken on the salad was lukewarm and dry(almost like it has been pre-cooked and then reheated for my meal) and the burger was disgusting. The fries were good, but there was nothing good enough to make up for the shit service and horrible food. Never going back!

I just moved downtown from the northern burbs. This bar makes me feel right at home. Great beer selection and great mix of people. I love coming here for their Firkin Fridays. Great beer and great food on a Friday really help kick off the weekend right!

very casual, decent parking as well ordered the garlic bomb burger and the meatloaf plate. portion size is HUGE. the meatfloaf could have been enough for 3 very hungry people. If you like garlic(which I love) that burger is for you. garlic inside and out, very juicy. otherwise, a typical bar/grill that you would expect. good fatty food and beer

I love this bar, atmosphere and food and drinks are awesome and the staff is usually awesome, but my buddy and I went in for lunch and drinks and had a rude server named Monica. She was inattentive, rude, and we were constantly waiting on her for her checking on us. She may have been having a bad day, but my buddy and met her with politeness and no change in attitude. The bartender was awesome though.

Stopped in this past weekend to satisfy one of those greasy burger itches. It certainly doesn’t disappoint in that regard. To start, the location does have a private lot. For those that oft-wonder about downtown establishments and their parking, fret not with Grumpy’s. The service was a little slow. Considering it’s Saturday morning and I can count on on hand how many people are in the place, you’d think it could have been a bit faster to get our order placed. But, I get it, the server was busy with inventory stuff and schedule stuff(it appeared). For the food… Started with cheese curds because, well, why not when you’re going off diet? Wasn’t impressed with them in the least bit. Very heavy batter drown out the cheese flavor, which is very disappointing. I wasn’t expecting tempura batter or anything, but, I’m not I’d like to at least taste the cheese portion of my curds… or the curds portion of the name? F it, either way the curds sucked. My burger, the garlic bomb burger, was fantastic. A solid, greasy mess of a burger filled with mozzarella and garlic. I’ve had a lot of burgers around these parts and I’d say this is a very good, underrated burger for the state. My only regret is getting no bacon on it(something I’ll take to my grave now). Took my burger with tots because tots rule supreme in the burger companion realm. Will say, a very solid tot was served up. Not too salty at all, and well done on the crunch. A solid 3⁄5 for Grumpys.

Why is every bar that doesn’t play Top 40 suddenly called a dive bar? So with that, I wouldn’t call it a dive bar. It’s just a bar that happens to have this going on for it: Reasonably priced drinks, especially given proximity to downtown. Free parking. Say what? Pool tables. Seating(booth/bar/table) Mix of all walks of life. Good variety of music. Frequently a DJ or live bands. Good bar food. This is the place for me on my way out of downtown that I stop at after I leave some stupid trendy bar that I didn’t want to go to in the first place and get back to real life where people are relatively normal and aren’t trying to impress anyone.

I love this place so much, I celebrated my 30th birthday there. Why do I love Grumpy’s downtown? Lemme tell ya in bullets, because I love bullets: — free HUGE parking lot — stiff, cheap drinks — events(monthly shows, art exhibits, fests like AMREP, and awesome things like Jewbilee on christmas eve) — friendly servers and bartenders(they won’t kiss your ass, but they are pretty awesome people… I mean… it IS called«Grumpy’s») — good bar food! I’ve never had a bad experience with it. My go to: the sliders, with American cheese, grilled onion, tomato, and lettuce. Always good, never disappoints. — fun atmosphere for everyone! If you want to have a ruckus, rowdy time, you can(but don’t be a jackass.)! If you want to have a chill night by the bar, you can! If you want to play pool or darts or pinball, you can! — conveniently located near the lightrail — great patio area Just good ol’ ‘merican fun!

Grumpy’s is the definition of a dive bar and it has yummy bar food at a decent price to match. Just don’t expect good service. While the servers are friendly, you may not see them when another beer or the check is needed. If you do see them, they’re huddled together at a table having a fun time like they’re customers. But it’s a dive bar and you’re not here for awesome service; you’re here for the good bar food and the fun atmosphere. You can’t go wrong with their burgers(nearly a full-page of the menu is dedicated to burger options), tater tots, or other fried appetizers. Add some beer from their great selection and you have a winner meal. I also like that they serve breakfast. It’s mostly the traditional items but they have a few fun and unusual options as well. If you like outdoor patios, Grumpy’s has a large backyard for your bar-hopping pleasure. If indoor games are more your style, belly up to the pool tables or dart boards. Or just sit back and people-watch.
