These folks are great! I was in town and asked by my mother to fix her leaking kitchen faucet. Discovered the leak was due to a broken plastic gasket. Naturally it was unique to Kohler faucets so Guse didn’t have the part. But the woman who helped me proceeded to improvise an o-ring solution from her vast inventory. She(with a little help from me) found the right sizes to seal the leak. Problem solved! Try that at Home Depot.

they pretty much have anything you would want. And they are friendly and have been in the neighborhood forever. They know the kinds of problems old houses in s. mpls have, so it’s not just a matter of having the product, they know that your sashes look like, and what kinds of locks you have on your windows. It’s nice to get advice on stuff like this. Very understanding when you go in and say: I need a think that bends around the thing over by the sink thing, and they get it.

Gosh only 4 reviews for Guse? I think it’s because it is the place where people walk or drive to rather than look up on the Internet. Guse’s has great products and services but here are a few extras: 1) they have a directory of local plumbers, carpenters, handypeople etc. 2) you can set up an account and send your kid down to get batteries for the flashlight – and they put it on the account – no fuss 3) they can special order anything you want or need. So for a little bit more cash than Home Depot you have service right in south Minneapolis. Also, their food store next door has gluten-free and other foods. Peg Thomas

Recently moved to the neighborhood and stopped by last weekend. As noted, they have a great variety of helpful items specifically tailored to the age and nature of the older homes that surround it. I must have spent 30 minutes just going up and down the aisles to get a sense for all the stuff they carry that might be of use in future projects. Surprisingly, unlike other niche neighborhood hardware stores I’ve been to in the past, Guse’s prices seem very fair. As an added bonus, they have a handyman(Tom) who will make house calls to do small projects for a very reasonable hourly rate.

This may come as a surprise to those who know me, but I secretly love hardware stores. Seriously. This love mostly springs from the fact that you never completely know what you will find inside. Nails, washers, hammers, weatherstripping — sure. But Guse’s also has cleaning products, kitchen gear, puzzles, and t-shirts. That’s right — you can buy a «Guse’s Hardware» logo T-shirt! Betcha didn’t think of that when you were walking by. Back to the kitchen gear. I’ve recently rediscovered my stove and am trying to be a touch more Happy Homemaker than I’ve been in the past. Thus, naturally, I need things like funnels and potato mashers. I’ve looked in kitchen stores, of course, but the prices are usually enough to send me back to frozen dinners. Not so a Guse’s! I got said funnel for only 99 cents! My new potato masher? $ 4! Take that, Fancy Kitchen Store! My love of hardware stores may be somewhat unknown, but anyone and everyone knows my love of supporting local businesses. Guse’s is exactly the kind of business you want to be supporting, too; the salespeople are cheery and helpful, and the store is clean and well-organized. This is what the corner hardware store in Mayberry looks like, folks. Finally, were possible to award a sixth star, I would give it to the wee white dog who inhabits the store. He’s so quiet that you may not see him at first, but he’s there, casually watching you stock up for your home-improvement project.

I cannot believe I am the first to sing the praises of Guse Hardware. This seemingly small corner hardware store has absolutely everything you could imagine. Every time I have stopped in with what I thought was an odd request, they smile and say right this way. They have things, or at least know where they are, that you will not find without a dog at Home Depot. Seriously folks, places like this are why we are on this web site. Guse Hardware is an absolute gem and I try to patronize them whenever possible. It will be a sad day if we lose these neighborhood entrepreneurs.
