I live in the neighborhood and I can’t believe it only been here twice. I forgot how good the sushi is. Amazing happy hour deals. Get the rice bowl with sashimi for only $ 10. Delicious seaweed salad and rolls. Hotdog was good last time. I want to try a skewer when I come again.

Went late night on a Sunday a couple weeks back. Service was great, the place is nice and the mural on the wall is pretty neat. All of the food we had was delicious. The chicken app, which I can’t remember the name of, was perfectly crisp, juicy and hot! We ordered a couple rolls as well, they were pretty standard. All their pork is Berkshire pork and Berkshire pork is the kind of pork you want.

My roommate and I are fans of sushi and always looking for new places. This one was a hit! A bit smaller than we expected, but we loved how the menu was simple, short and sweet. I ordered chicken meatballs and pork belly skwers to start, and I chose a sushi roll topped with salmon and filled with asparagus, cucumber, and Japanese mayo. I loved the little bits of char from the grill on my skewers. The meatballs were seasoned well, and the pork belly practically melted in your mouth. None of it was dried out. The teriyaki sauce was flavorful without being thick and sticky. Made it seem much more light and flavored the meat without overwhelming it. The roll was great! Such a good mix of textures and the flavors worked so well together! Will definitely be back to try more!

Superb and elegantly simple preparations of intelligently and sustainably selected fish hallmark a menu also offering creative and delicious robata-style choices. The seaweed salad is one of the tastiest I’ve had anywhere, and they do a lovely pressed sushi dish of Suzuki with a perfect ponzu as accompaniment. Wine list, service, and ambiance are all spot on for this friendly, neighborhood sushi bar. It’s clear the establishment’s owner, kitchen and staff have worked hard to create a relaxed, yet high-service experience for their diners. I’m looking forward to going back again my next time through town!

First time visit, really late, I know. A little loud, early in the evening, I can just imagine, really loud when packed. We started with the house hotdog, doll was not crazy about it, but I thought it was really good. Very moist, slightly spicy with the peppers and mayo. We continued with the chef’s sashimi platter which was very good, moist, fresh fish. We still had some room and ordered the Iwana roll. The best sushi so far. Sweet, savory, fresh, all in one bite. There wasabi was dangerous, be careful, but it was good. I do want to add a thank you to Roy, our waiter. Superb waiter, knew his stuff, was there when you needed him and very gracious. Thank you for making the meal all that much better of an experience.

Avocado and egg hotdog. I would stop there, but there are so many other reasons why I like Kyatchi, so allow me to list the reasons why. But know that the avocado and egg dog is EVERYTHING. Anyway. I’ve been to Kyatchi twice now, and I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to come back. I had a really wonderful initial experience, and was able to try the rarer form of oshizushi, or pressed sushi. Personally, I like the rolls, but I appreciate the new experience of pressed sushi, and since then I’ve seen this in other Japanese restaurants around the TC. I’ve also had their agedashi tofu, because one must have agedashi tofu when it is available. It was yummy, of course. I appreciate that they use sustainable seafood, and you can certainly taste the care that goes into each dish. Kyatchi almost reminds me of Tataki in San Francisco, except they also do hot dogs. Which brings me to this most important PSA: Get the avocado and egg dog. It is just to-die-for. I loooooooove how the creaminess and coolness of the avocado and egg/mayo contrasts perfectly with the snap and saltiness of the hotdog. It is damn delicious. I loved it so much I ordered it twice during the same dinner. I have no regrets.

I came here at 10 p.m. I kind of felt guilty but they are open rather late. The décor of the place is very nice, and somewhat authentic to the culture. They have candles at every table which really set up for a romantic mood which was nice. We were greeted rather quickly and had the house to choose from. They have an extensive list of alcoholic beverages that we can choose from; however, I did not choose to drink any of these because… *cough cough* I’m a lightweight. However their sushi selection is nice. We had a various amount of sushi rolls, which had different kinds of fish. An interesting point was that one of our rolls had its down dipping sauce that came with it. It was rather tasty however I would still choose soy sauce. We also had King Salmon that was a special for that day. This was the cherry on top of the cake. Something about Sashimi. I can indulge in it everyday… I feel as though in a past like I was a bear because my love of just the raw fish, especially in this case, was exceptional. The King Salmon is really something that all should try whenever they have it at Kyatchi, it is worth the money to taste all of that deliciousness.

Hold me, this place is wonderful. The rolls are made with so much care, the seafood so damn fresh. I had their daily nigiri special which was sea urchin and it literally tasted like the sea. Like woah. The staff are courteous and professional and very knowledgeable. And of course, I have to mention the happy hour. Its gooood. I’ve never had a single thing I didn’t like here.

Sustainable, traditional sushi with a modern twist. I have never had anything here that was not amazing. Some people complain about portion size, but I prefer quality to TGI Friday’s portions. I hate that super-side-everything-fat-american crap. The daily specials are worth asking about. My favorite rolls, in this order: Tataki roll, Kingfield roll, Iwana roll, and anything with bincho, salmon, scallop or avocado. Chef’s sashimi platter was melt in your mouth. I think when I went with my cousin who is a body builder, we ended up getting two. Tried the Suzuki Ohizushi and liked it, but I would only get Oshizushi to share. Veggie Ramen was outstanding. Shared with a friend, but when I go to a shushi joint, I want to eat FISH. I have gone here 4 times, and one of the last times, was a happy hour. RECOMMENDIT. The chirashi bowl at $ 10 was a bargain, a nd I have been wanting to go back, just for that, since. Nice selection of craft beers, but HH saki is $ 5. $ 5!!! Delicious. There area so many things to try, I want to go back & try the hot dogs, but every time I get there, I am seduced by the fish. I really love that they are committed to sustainability, local products, and organics. If you like quality over quantity, this is the best sushi in town.

Went on a snowy night and didn’t have too much trouble getting a few seats at the bar. I had heard good things and was excited to get a few different things off the menu. We went with the chicken kabobs, seaweed salad, a sushi roll, and hot dog. I thought everything was pretty solid, the hotdog was the best part, we and the seasonal dog that had corn on it(can’t remember what it was called). The sushi was priced a bit higher than I would have expected, but the happy hour menu and pricing looked great!

This is a go-to for me in Minneapolis. The restaurant is comfortable. I like the music(A David Bowie mix was playing 11 Jan 16). The food is good-to-excellent, and feels appropriately authentic to Japan while reflecting its Minneapolis setting. The mix of available dishes is excellent. I was able to avoid rice in my most recent meal(not the one following!). Here’s some deets(2 Dec 15): Miso soup, 3 Crispy salmon skin salad, 7 — I get this everytime I’m there. Tsukune donburi, 15.5 — chicken meatballs and rice; very delicious More deets(11 Jan 16) Crispy salmon skin salad, 7 Miso soup, 3 Shiitake skewer, 2.5 Shishito peppers skewer, 2 Ika Shogayaki, 11– the whole grilled squid, excellent

I would not come back here again. Maybe I just don’t understand Japanese food but I know my food. I know what tastes good and nothing tastes good here. Homemade Kaiso salad — very bland. We didn’t even finish it. Miso soup — too salty. My husband and I both added water to it which cooled it down and we couldn’t enjoy it. Sake roll — very simple. Nothing special Suzuki roll — pressed sushi. Too much rice and hardly any fish. This is a block of rice topped with some sea bass, tasted like toothpaste with fish. And it’s $ 14. I didn’t even eat half of it. The menu is hard to read. I didn’t know what 75% of the menu said. I had to ask the waiter. He was very patient but it didn’t help us understand what we were actually ordering. Hard to place an order when you don’t even know what you are ordering!!! The bill came to $ 85. I was not happy with our dinner and felt like we were ripped off.

We arrived near 7pm on a Monday night with immediate seating. We ordered three sushi selctions(Kappa, avodado and bincho) all super delish and super fresh. We also ordered the lucky 13(a Monday night special) Ramen and pint for $ 13. I really enjoyed the chicken broth based ramen and the accompanying pint of Sapporo. The place was busy, but not too busy. The music was nice, but not too loud. I could easily hear what my dinner date was saying, but not the people next to me. We will be going back and hopefully soon.

Despite the fact that this is a bit of a schlep for us, I foresee many more visits. We went very early on the Saturday before Labor Day(like 4:30 early) and the place was empty. The waiter was incredibly attentive and obviously really proud of the place. The sustainability factor is pushed pretty hard, which is fine, but the actual taste is the key of course. And it’s very very good. The ramen was just lovely, light and tasty. The sushi has that extra edge, that delicate touch that puts it over the top. There’s a great beer and wine list, and a kids’ menu(for next time) that promises greatness. This is a real gem.

Had a friend from out of town and we went here for dinner. Our server was very knowledgeable about the seafood and sustainability but a bit inattentive. When we were ready to order another round of sushi our server didn’t come to the table for 15 minutes, yet served others around us. The food was great, and we got two rolls, a hotdog, the meatball appetizers and the suzuki. Everything was fantastic and had well matched flavors. The suzuki comes with lemon pieces on top and has strong citrus notes. It’s very refreshing for a hot day. The potato salad on the hot dog was very creamy and light. It’s closer to the mustard/mayo version rather than vinegar based, but it’s not too rich given the amount you receive. I also highly recommend the appetizers. They were out of the mushrooms so we got the meatballs and chicken. The meatballs were phenomenal. I don’t know what seasoning they use but it’s very flavorful. Overall it was a fun dining experience and I would go back again. It’s a pretty expensive night but most sushi usually is.

A little noisy, but fun décor and some outside seating are avail. I loved the different takes on some common Japanese dishes like miso soup and seaweed salad. Service was not only friendly and professional, but also the well-educated servers seemed to be as passionate about the dishes as the owner. Food Notes: –Tokyo Turnip Salad: I could a whole bowl of this, seriously –Seaweed 3 ways: The red one is the best! Savory and a little crunch –Teriyaki Hot Dog: great flavor but a tad salty –Skewers: Amazing! Chix meatballs were so juicy and flavorful, would pair great with some cold noodles –Sashimi Bowl: Fish was very fresh, all the fixings reminded me of home. Pickled everything was great, wishing I had more seabass –Strawberry Sorbet: simply delicious Will be back! organic, locally sourced and free-range? I’m in!

Highly recommend! Happy hour gives you $ 2 off tap beers, and sake specials. I got a plate of 5 pieces of sashimi and rice(chirashi) for $ 10-that’s a steal. I got the unfiltered sake for $ 5 which was delicious as well. They have house made seaweed salad which was delicious-sesame oil soy sauce vinegar combination. I sat outside which was nice as well-7 tables outside to choose from and inside had a sushi bar and other tables. I had a very prompt server who explained the menu to me which was highly appreciated. They have grilled seafood, sushi, soups-I like the creativity of the chef-well worth the bill.

Yes. Yes. Yes. If you like sushi and Japanese food you must check this place out. The rolls are killer(I had the Wanna Roll, haha) and their seafood is some of the best I had in the U.S. Try their grilled mackerel with sea salt and their grilled squid. Both are«out of your mind and off your face» kinds of fantastic. Just beautiful dishes. They also have… Wait for it… Hot dogs. Yup, I said it. Hot dogs, with a Japanese twist. Something about one of the owners once being the personal chef of a Japanese Twins player, once. Or some shit, I don’t know, I was busy stuffing my face with sushi. Soooooooooo good. The only I didn’t pop for the full 5 stars was because their service was a little slow. Probably just because it was Memorial Day and this was the only place open in the neighborhood and they were RAMMED, really busy. If I could give these guys 4.5 stars, I would.

Surprisingly good food. My boyfriend and I arrived during happy hour and we were rather surprised on how good things tasted even with a hr or two before closing. Though their HH menu was quite small it did offer a pretty good deal for items compared to their regular priced dinner menu. I opted for the chirashi which was a good portion for the HH priced I paid of $ 10, plus they weren’t afraid to give you good pieces of sashimi, like hotate, for having paid their HH price. My bf order the soba dog which he was satisfied about. I wasn’t too thrilled about the cost for it, since it was a hotdog but overall taste was good. We also ordered a pork belly kushimono(tontoro) which was excellent with sea salt. Can’t complain really about the overall visit. We were quite satisfied and will return again in the future.
