Adorable addition to the neighborhood, and I’m hoping this place will inspire me to break out the sewing machine! I took a sewing class here in the winter(we made a pillowcase), and it was a lot of fun. Staff seems very knowledgeable and friendly too. Not being a sewing expert, I can’t speak to the quality/selection/price of the fabrics. Definitely not as extensive as someplace like Joanne, but the fabric they do have looks great and I think is relatively unique. Maybe not the place for«everyday» fabric/supplies, but definitely worth a trip.

The classes and machine rentals at this shop are priced right and are wonderful. The selection of classes are pretty good too. The big downside though is the shop priced way way way too high even for a small shop.

I found this great little shop a couple of months ago and have taken a bunch of their classes! I’ve made a pillow case in sewing essentials(because that is how much of a beginner I was!) and have since made a dress, skirt, tote bag and learned how to put in zippers and buttons! And I’ve just started. Everyone that works there is super nice and extremely good at their trade. I LOVE the fabric and patterns. As other reviews have stated, it’s NOT a Joann… which is exactly why I like it. What they do, they do well.

I have had great service each and every time I have set foot in this store. The employees have always been warm and welcoming, and have gone out of their way to help me as a novice sewer with delusions of grandeur. It was so refreshing to have some help deciding what I am currently capable of, and what might just be frustrating! It was really helpful but not discouraging in the least. I agree that it’s not even close to Joann’s in terms of selection, but what they carry is the best of the best-Amy Butler, Anna Maria Horner, etc. I think Sewtropolis is the best bet for finding gorgeous designer fabric and patterns in the south end of the cities.

Sewtropolis is an adorable little sewing shop in South Minneapolis. They have sewing classes, machines to use for a fee and various odds and ends for sale. The fabric and pattern selection is pretty limited, so it’s not the crafter’s Costco that Jo-Ann’s is(which is a good and bad thing, I think). I just joined a novice sewing club and we hold the meetings at Sewtropolis 1x month. It’s a nice space to work and the owner Nikol was very helpful during the first meeting when we realized we were all clueless about sewing. She was also patient when I looked like I was going to break all of her sewing machines into tiny pieces.
