I was a little afraid to try this class at first but the instructors were encouraging and provided hands on support when necessary. The classes are just the right size too.. There were two instructors and one of them(I believe Janet) was hilarious and full of personality. This was my 1st aerial class and I was able to do moat of the moves by the end of class.

You totally need to try this! Working out by yourself is boring. I need group fitness in order to stay motivated and it has to be fun or I won’t come back. This certainly does the trick! I was so surprised at how fast the class goes by, you don’t even realize you are working out because its so fun(OK, you are working hard, so you do know you are working out… but you get what I am trying to say!). I definitely recommend taking the intro class first, they go over terms and slowly show you how to do the moves. Don’t let it intimidate you though, you will be surprised at what you can do. The instructors are really wonderful with helping too, and guiding you to make sure you do the move correctly as to not injure yourself. As with most places, I recommend taking at least 3 classes before you decide if you like it or not. Once you take the intro class you can get a BOGO package, 2 classes for $ 20. Definitely do that so you can give it a real chance. Make sure to wear zipper free clothing, and take off jewelry that may snag the fabric. This will make things easier and safer for you, as well as preserving the very expensive fabric for the studio. Definitely bring a water bottle(not glass though, the floor is concrete) and get ready to sweat. I highly suggest not eating before class, at least an hour, but two is better. You will be upside down at times and may get a little nauseous if you just ate. Also, make sure you use the restroom before class, there is lots of pressure on the old bladder during class. Parking can be a bit of a pain in the butt, there is not a lot so you have to try to find street parking and compete with Brasa next door. Give yourself a few extra minutes as you may have to walk a block or two. One more tip — don’t be alarmed if you have some beautiful bruises the next day. I always have some nice purple spots that are tender. I am told that will go away over time, once your body is used to the pressure/activity. I am on a quest to try every class right now. Wanna join me sometime? PM and let me know, I can refer you: D

I am always on the search for a workout I don’t hate, which I thought would be forever in vain. But so far, I am really loving The Aviary and aerial fitness! First of all, you have to take the Intro to Aerial class($ 10 with« Unilocal!» promo code) before any other classes. I was nervous and unsure of what to expect, but I left having done a handful of aerial tricks and feeling more flexible! So since then, I’ve been to two Fly Fit 1 classes. Both the instructors I’ve had, Cheryl and Jane, are talented, helpful, and pretty hilarious too. I also got to meet Christine, the owner, who is just as fit and inviting. Fly Fit 1 is a challenging yet fun combo of strengthening exercises, aerial tricks, stretching, and a cardio blast that incorporate the fabric for both support and resistance. The classes have gone by so fast for me, I’m shocked. Usually at fitness classes I’m counting the seconds and drafting my will and testament in my head. Other details: free street parking along 2nd and 6th, and sometimes I have to talk a block. Class packages are reasonable, and more economical the more you buy(avg ~$ 16/class, vs. $ 20 per class). The space is modern and chic. I just wish there were more mirrors and I hope they bring in some fans soon! PS — message me and I can refer you!

I must say that I love this place and its instructors. I bought a deal on Groupon and gather some friends to attend one of their«fly fit» class(50 mins of cardio and fabric work that works your core and body) with Megan. I must say, my friends and I were not prepared because we got our a$s kicked with all the pulsing exercises our instructor had us do. This place is a great place if you are a first timer, like us because they go through things step by step and allow you to attempt the moves while two people walk around and supervise. They have other class options too and«fly fit I» was like their«beginners» course. They allow all ages and genders to attend and I feel that this would be a great place to learn the ropes(no pun intended) for beginners. At the end of the day my glutes, core, and arms were completely sore, but it left me wanting more because I love a good challenge and getting those tougher moves on the fabrics is very exhilarating. The place is overall friendly, clean, and accommodating for everyone(water is provided but don’t forget to bring a bottle to keep by your feet). They even have a bowl of hair ties at the door for your emergency hair tie needs. Don’t forget! No metals, zippers, or jewelry that can snag the fabric!
