Had Moral Omnivore Food Truck for lunch downtown this week. I went with the Beef Wellington sliders. I wasn’t really impressed. The only resemblance to beef wellington was the paté(which was the best part.) Other than that they were just run of the mill sliders with onions but the biggest mistake was the well-done beef. Usually Beef Wellington is made with steak; med-rare. I understand that you switch to ground beef for the sliders but when pay $ 9 for a couple“gourmet” sliders I expect that the beef is cooked with at least a little pink in the middle! I would expect a truck proud of if its ingredients to want to highlight them. I can get gray-well done sliders with onions from White Castle.

So I ordered the fried green tomatoes BLT sliders with a side of mushroom fries and a bottle of water. Let’s skip over the price being an hefty $ 15 and go to comment the food itself. The fries had great crunch and came with a delicious mustard sauce, but the mushrooms were quite watery. Cooking out some of the water by grilling the mushroom ahead of time might have yielded a better tasting fry. The sliders where also underwhelming: the fried tomatoes, the bread and the bacon were all good, but the tzaziki slaw had no tzatziki taste whatsoever(no yogurt creaminess, no garlic flavor or spiciness, no cucumber freshness) and the lemon chipotle collard green had no spiciness and tasted closer to sauerkraut. Were I in charge of that slider, I’d drop the collard greens and change the tzatziki slaw to a more assertive chipotle slaw(or something else smoky and just a tad spicy). So food was not great, why still 4 stars? Well while what i tasted did not deserve more than 3 star everything on the menu sounded like a 5 star dish, so I’m betting on those. And I will probably be back to try some more!

During a recent Saturday food truck gathering at Harriet Brewery, this particular food truck turned out to be our choice for food. Cool name for a food business and they have available for the taking«stickers» with their logo, which includes the head & neck of a unicorn in addition to colorful drawings of vegetables. With a beer already in hand, I ordered their«beet-mac» and my companion ordered their«Wellington sliders». Before making my choice I asked whether the beet-mac would go together well with my «Harriet Westside» brew. The woman stepped away to ask her husband about the food-beer pairing and then replied to me «my husband says the beet-mac goes with everything». He was right. Slices of cooked beets on top of mac-n-cheese along with some mustard sauce. I enjoyed the combination, although I think more beets would have made it much better. I had to very carefully parcel out the beets with each bite so that I would not be left with a pile of mac-n-cheese and no beets. My companion’s sliders were oh, so very tasty and moist. Too bad there were only 2 sliders in the order.

I love this food truck so much. I’ve had the wild rice sliders in the past which were fantastic and I just had the butternut squash taco and it was sooooo delicious. I highly recommend it!

This was the first time I have ever been to a food truck exhibit. It’s rare in Chicago but I guess it’s just an everyday thing up in downtown Minnesota. I was super excited because it was a chance for me to live the hype that food trucks on food television portray. This was the first place we chose to get food from. We went with the beef sliders. It was delicious. The carmelized onions and the beef complimented each other so well in between the bun. Very small size but it was a burst of flavor. The girl who rung us out was also extremely friendly. She smiled the entire time, suggested other food trucks to try, and even gave directions. She was awesome. Give this place a try! Yummyyy!

This food truck has so many awesome options! I had the Beef Wellington sliders and the Wild Rice Bites with the accompanying cranberry sauce. If you’re in downtown Minneapolis, this food truck is comes around on Fridays, and it definitely should be on your list to hit up. A few dollars more than some of the others, but so much flavor!

The Beet Sliders are a definite MUSTHAVE. So much perfection with the combination of roasted beets, creamy mustard, smoked gouda and red onion! Also, if you are lucky, you will get to experience one of their amazing WAFFLES. You can find these for breakfast on Saturday mornings at NE Farmers Market. The toppings rotate based on what is in season. So good! To demonstrate the high quality ingredients they used, I have literally seen the owners pick up fresh local produce at farmers markets to use for the truck. Not only is the food great, but this food truck is committed to environmental sustainability and social well-being. They use all compostable foodservice ware, buy local, fair trade & organic, and they donate a percentage of proceeds to charity via Eat Your Heart Out Day!

The Moral Omnivore is sinfully delicious… even my dog thinks so. No really… she does. Proof right here: Island Boy and I first stumbled upon this 4-wheeled culinary gem at 612 Brewery during Art-A-Whirl. Shamelessly, his initial goal was to buy our dog dinner… which ended up being a $ 9 Wellington Burger(sans onions). Yes, we have one lucky dog! After she devoured her dinner in mere seconds, we decided we should probably try some of the eats for ourselves. So, we ordered the slider combo, which includes a Fried Tomato BLT Slider and a Beet Slider and decided to share. We were hooked upon the first bite! The BLT has a fried tomato, crispy bacon, lemon chipotle greens and their M.O. special slaw, and it must come with super powers, because it disappeared before our very eyes! So, on to the Beet Slider. Now, I’ve never been a big fan of beets, so I was a little skeptical, but my view on them has been forever changed thanks to M.O. I never imagined a beet could taste so good! It was perfectly seared and layered with smoked gouda, basil, red onions and topped with a creamy mustard sauce. If I had to pick a favorite between the 2 sliders, I think I must give my nod to the beets… but thankfully they offer these two as a tandem, so I never need to choose! Everything about this food truck rocks, including the crew that runs it… Linnea and Ross are so sweet and sociable and the love for what they do is pouring out of them! They share their love of all things local by serving up locally sourced dishes daily and share even more love on their weekly Eat With Your Heart Out Days, when 10% of their proceeds are donated to a MN charity… how morally awesome is that?! You can find them downtown, at local breweries and farmer’s markets – they post their location daily on their FB so you can stalk them like I do: P Safe to say, this is my favorite new food truck in town, and I can’t wait to see what they cook up next!

I’m moral. I’m an omnivore. Therefore, I love this food truck! Today, at the NE Farmer’s Market, I stumbled upon this jewel of the city. How have I not tried it before? As I read the menu, EVERYTHING sounded delicious, and I wasn’t even hungry. I decided to try the Beet Sliders and the Curried Mushroom Fries. Both are fantastic life decisions that will have you wanting to stalk this truck for more. Seriously, the beet sliders, may have changed my life. I have been spending the afternoon trying to figure out how to recreate the flavor palette on my own – with the fresh beets and onions recently purchased at the NE Farmers Market. But, the best thing to do will be to find this truck again. Rumor has it that there is a food truck expo next Saturday??? Anyone want to join me?

This place… this place. I’ve had dreams of this place since I went. I had their BLT and it made my taste buds dance. Nitrite-free bacon, sauteed greens, coleslaw, perfectly fried tomatoes on top of a bed of quinoa(for an extra $ 1). It cost a total of $ 9 and worth every penny. I love that The Moral Omnivore does weekly donations to food shelves and gives 5% of their proceeds to a MN charity. One stop shop here and it’s a WIN for your taste buds and WIN for your heart.

Moral Omnivore was out that day, just a few blocks away from my work, and with a menu that sounded right up the alley of my proudly Norwegian mom and aunt: Wild Rice Sliders with Lingonberry? This is a sure bet. Not to mention, my foodie aunt Greta, who worked as a chef for years, would appreciate the mission to use sustainable, organic, local foods that puts the«moral» in Moral Omnivore. I first bit into the Fried Tomato BLT, $ 8. The textures were surprising and wonderful, with the crispy breaded and fried tomatoes, generous slabs of salty sweet bacon, and creamy coleslaw complemented by strange-yet-wonderful lemon chipotle collard greens. Wowza! This is not a regular BLT at all, and I was impressed with the inventiveness and quality of the ingredients. After a couple of bites, I switched over to the Wild Rice Sliders, $ 8. These were a bit messy to pick up and eat, as the lingonberry white wine reduction, while fantastically sweet and tart, was soaking through the bun and overpowering the other flavors a bit. The wild rice patties themselves were delicious, but a bit softer than I would have preferred, not providing much bite or texture. The rosemary-pickled radishes and arugula topping the sliders added a great fresh crunch. Service Friendly and quick. Presentation I liked the natural cardboard folded to-go boxes, and thought the sliders looked appealing. Taste Everything tasted so fresh, and the flavors were inventive and thoughtful. Value for Dollars The sets of two sliders are $ 6-$ 9 each. Without any sides, this is a little pricey, but the two sliders make a filling-enough meal. Overall Food Truck Experience It was a crowd-pleaser, and a great introduction to the food truck experience for my mom and aunt. They’re fans and so am I!

Stopped in today for lunch action. I would give it a 3.5 I love they have a variety of healthy-healthier foods on their menu. I went with the Rainbow tomato salad and the beet sliders. The Salad was on the boring side but all of the(few) ingredients were fresh so that scored a few points. The beet sliders were tasty. Warm buns with a I believe was a melty white cheese. I would’ve like to see the beets cut a little thicker but again, fresh ingredients wins here. I enjoyed my lunch but after small salad and two beet sliders I would say the $ 13 was pretty steep. Bring that down to $ 10 and you have a repeat visitor.

I caught this gorgeous green truck at the Northeast Farmers Market last weekend and was impressed overall. I’ve been stalking them for a little while on the Internet and admire their mission as well. They donate 5% of profits to a MN charity on their weekly Eat Your Heart Out Day. How great is that? As for the food, I LOVED the portobello curry fries with mustard aioli. Really and truly, they just worked. The mushrooms are quite crispy and meaty, reminiscent of the breading that’s on the eggplant fries at Sonora Grill. I considered getting another order for dessert. I had a hard time deciding between a salad or sliders, but ended up going with the Beef Wellington sliders without the buns(they subbed greens instead, which was very kind of them — they also have quinoa available). The menu is great for vegetarian options too. I’m coming for the beets next. I liked this overall, but I know I made a visible sad face when I saw that the«Wellington» was ground beef patties vs. the sliced tenderloin that I was seeing in my mind’s eye. If I had been expecting Wellington-inspired mini burgers, these would’ve been totally great… so I can’t fault them for me not reading the menu properly and then being sad for 30 seconds. I got over it like a grown-up, and found that the pâté and Buffalo caramelized onions added punch to the juicy, savory little burgers. I honestly wanted to eat the onions by the handful. They have a selection of local sodas available, use compostable serving materials… and I saw on their website that they sometimes even make stroopwafels! I’m into it. In fact, I’m declaring right now that stroopwafels are the new donuts, which were the new macarons, which were the new cupcakes…

Sustainable, charitable and DELICIOUS. A young couple working hard to create exciting new tastes the right way. They’ve put many hours into their creations and it shows when your taste buds come into play! All the sliders are very tasty and the curried mushroom fries are my favorite«add-on». Do yourself a favor and at least try them once!!! You’ll be back.

Yes! A food truck chock full of vegetarian options, and they taste amazing! I had heard much about the beet sliders, so when I was out walking downtown and saw the grass-green colored truck I went for it! When I got a look at the full menu I made a last minute switch and got the wild rice sliders. This was a truly amazing decision. These lil guys were insane. They come with this lingenberry-white wine sauce, arugula(yes!), and pickled radishes! I could have eaten like 10 of these, just amazing. I grabbed the curried mushroom fries as well. Epic! really good crunch, and served with an amazing mustard sauce(which I think is the sauce for the aforementioned beet sliders, which is to say I will be back). My friend got the BLT and if her email is to be believed, it was INSANE. Bonus: they give 10% to charity, woot! And they are sustainable!

The Moral Omnivore is my new favourite food truck in Minneapolis! Their food is so fantastic, the girls that run the truck are fabulous, and I love knowing that they care about sustainability and where the food comes from. We should all be moral omnivores. Their take on the BLT is SO yummy! The fried tomato, homemade slaw(which by the way, doesn’t have any mayonnaise in it), and the crispy bacon was, oh god, so good. I also tried the beet slider, which was difficult to eat because it is such a pretty sandwich. If it were a person, they would likely be a tad narcissistic, and I’d understand why. I finally did manage to take a bite, and I can affirm that I am now a beet believer(beetliever?)! I tried their curried mushroom fries, which were great. They’re slightly curried, and battered, but still soft in the centre. Comes with a super tasty dipping sauce. All in all, I can’t wait to try the rest of their menu!

I checked this truck out because it had the shortest line, pure deception, I stood there for an eternity. The fried green tomato BLT sliders had all the ingredients right, until you get to the bottom layer of what appears to be canned spinach. Bacon, coleslaw, and a fried green tomato… WHOO! Now let’s wrap this bitch up in seaweed… BOOO! Curried mushroom fries… You know the mushrooms that get you high, the fungi that grows under cow shit? Yea they taste better than the curried mushroom fries, if you’re going to be moral from a health or environmental standpoint… at least be moral to my taste buds, or I at least expect to see Jabba the Hutt riding a pink elephant while shooting off a rocket launcher. An Omnivore will eat just about anything right? Well then I guess the name makes sense.

I was skeptical of MO at first. I like food trucks for their meat dishes and am always wary when someone presents their spin on a what could otherwise be delicious on its own. I also usually loathe attempts to turn traditionally meaty dishes into something vegetarian. Enter the Beet Slider. I’m still not sure how I was convinced to try it in the first place, but I’m glad I did. I wouldn’t say it replaces a burger(which, coincidentally, they have an awesome one on their menu), but it was very good as a stand-alone item. Surprisingly good. Good enough for me to rethink my deep hatred of beets. First, I was surprised by the pleasant texture. Both soft and dense, it actually added the substance vegetarian burgers often lack. Second, it is complimented to perfection. The Gouda adds remaining«smokiness» that a beet burger would normally lack and the mustard sauce is just, simply, heaven. I also tried the mushroom fries. They were phenomenal, but I have a little problem with the nomenclature since it doesn’t really do the product justice. They aren’t fries in the usually sense, but rather beautifully crusted and seasoned portable mushrooms. Just wonderful.

I love Food Truck season! It is that time of year when Marquette Ave smells like a party in my nose. Yesterday I tried the newest addition to the season along with an out of state colleague. I tried the wellington bison burger. It wasn’t bad but I had them hold the schmear of pâté but they also held the sauce. Bummer cause it sounded good. Over all it was good but not sure if I would order it again. My colleague had the beet sliders and the roasted squash salad. These were major winners. Excited to see another quality addition to the food truck world.

The Moral Omnivore is one of the newest food trucks on the street. In fact, last week was their first. They are committed to providing sustainable, gourmet food while they do their best to help others. One day each week they donate 5% of their profits to a Minnesota charity, and each week they donate produce to Minnesota food shelves. Just like Gastrotruck, who I reviewed last week, the Moral Omnivore is a food truck you can feel good about giving your money to– and the food is pretty good as well. Sara and I decided to split a couple sets of «sliders» the Moral Omnivore(or MO) offered. We ordered the top two items of the menu. The Beet Slider(2 for $ 6) made of seared beet, smoked Gouda, creamy mustard sauce, basil, and red onion. The Fried Tomato BLT(2 for $ 7) made of special fried tomatoes, house slaw, bacon, and lemon chipotle greens. Both sets of sliders were served on a nice, rustic bun. The Beet Sliders were really tasty. The creamy mustard sauce was a nice compliment to the sweetness of the beet. My only complaint was the size of the the beet. On their website they show a picture of an inch thick slice of beet in the slider, and ours were a third of an inch at best. A little on the skimpy side especially if the beet is the«meat» in the slider. The Fried Tomato BLT was not at all skimpy. Thick cut bacon, crispy fried tomatoes, and some tasty slaw made for a great little sandwich. Overall, I though the food from Moral Omnivore was good, and I really like that they give back to the community. I would recommend you try it at least once this spring the next time you’re hitting up the food trucks for lunch.
