Yeti Records

I love Yeti Records. Every time i visit, there is some gem in the stacks that i feel i’ve been looking for forever. Jake and LIsa are both really nice and you can tell that they love music and love talking about it with people. I love that there’s a kids area, too. Viva Yeti!

Yeti, yeah, not feeling it here. We walked in on a whim, prior to an evening at Pat’s Tap, and despite being the only people in the store… were never acknowledged by the guy behind the counter… from the time we walked in and browsed until the time we left.
I liked the small section of local records that were categorized by label and by band… but, honestly, it wasn’t overwhelming, and I quickly lost interest in this place.
Yeti Records is pretty tiny, and quite honestly not worth another visit to, unless I happen to be hanging out at Pat’s Tap, or interested in B Squad Vintage next door… this place has hipster hangout written all over it. Meh, there so much better for record stores in the Twin Cities.

Confession: I don’t have a record player. Still, I enjoy browsing around used record stores like Yeti, pretending I do. Today I rifled through a few boxes of local music and saw some Red Pens, Pink Mink and various other hip Minnesota bands. I was just passing through, so I didn’t really make it back to explore the full extent of the small shop.
The gentleman behind the counter (the owner perhaps? hi owner!), was friendly and has the look of a guy you’d trust to recommend music to you. All in all, the place has an easy, homegrown feel about it. I liked.

Perfect timing to stop into Yeti (or for Yeti to open for that matter). I picked up Jackson 5 and Ella Fitzgerald Christmas albums pre-​holiday season (among a few other goodies) for a cool $ 16.
The selection consists of used records, fabric and a limited selection of cassettes. As far as vinyl goes, they have pretty much any classic album you could be looking for and it’s all reasonably priced (everything I was looking at was between $ 3 – 25).
Two things I love about the place: The designated «Listening Room» and the coffee station. It’s the little things that count guys, I tell ya.
Also, if you’re on the hunt for a record player, Yeti has a few available for about $ 60. If you’re on the hunt for an awesome Christmas gift for yours truly, I’ll take one of those gift certificates. Thanks.
