One thing I’ve found I appreciate about certain food trucks is a focused menu that specializes in a specific food done a few ways rather than watering down the quality by attempting to offer too many options. YumMi certainly delivers on this count, only offering four items: Moo Mi(beef; they were all out of this one when we arrived at 12:35pm), Oink Mi(pork), Peck Mi(chicken), and Bean Mi(tofu). Between the three of us, we ordered each of the three sandwiches available. Josh tried to order the lemonade, but they had run out of that as well; must have been a busy day at YumMi! Service We were surprised it took ten minutes to essentially just assemble our sandwiches, but it seemed that maybe they had run out of a few ingredients and so had to chop them up fresh. Presentation Wrapped in white butcher paper, which I’ve read is the authentic Vietnamese street cart way. Taste The cilantro and fresh ingredients were great. Wish there was more of a signature flavor from that promising-sounding Sriracha aioli though. Value for Dollars $ 6.50-$ 7.50 for a generously-sized(about 7 inches) and filling sandwich. Not bad! Overall Food Truck Experience A promising start for YumMi; I’d love to see a few of the kinks worked out.

Yay I am a fan. I got the«Cluck Mi»(aka. Chicken banh mi) and it was very good. There were all sorts of flavors going on – sweet, savory, spicy, tangy, etc. The bread was nice and crusty as well. I only wish that the toppings were put on the sandwich with more care. The meat on my sammy was squished into the crease of the bun, and the pickled veggies were placed on the outside, so I couldn’t really get everything in one bite. But it was still good, and for a decent price($ 7), so I would go back.

I decided to stop here for lunch the other day(I was meeting a friend). I’ve heard great things about the YumMi Truck and it was right across the street from where I work; so, I really didn’t have any more excuses to not try it. It’s a very simple setup and it’s a food trailer and not a food truck(owned/operated by a couple). The menu is very simple, there are four options(beef, pork, chicken and tofu); the prices range from $ 7 — $ 8. I ordered the Moo Mi(beef of course!). The bread was a little different than the typical banh mi I’ve had around town, a little fancier and a little chewier. I’m used to a hard crust and having a soft inside. The beef was great, flavorful and went well with the other ingredients. There was also spicy cucumber carrot slaw, cilantro and a Sriracha aioli. I like spicy food and I was expecting spicy slaw and a little more kick from the Sriracha(please add more spice!). I’d love to see some cold banh mi sandwiches ready to go for those who want a quick lunch. I think making a more traditional banh mi(regular, roast pork, etc) and having them stacked up on the counter with the usual ingredients would be a huge hit. Something people can just grab and go; just keep the price under $ 5. Also, keep a bottle of Sriracha out for your guests and maybe offer soda/water for purchase :-) I gave 3 stars instead of 4 because of price. For $ 8, I only got the Moo Mi; the price is a little tough to sell when compared to other food trucks and other lunch options in the downtown skyway. At the end of the day, a good banh mi spot for lunch in downtown Minneapolis!

I totally disagree with the negative tone of previous reviews. These sandwiches are amazing! I have had the pork and the beef and both were fantastic. I’m certainly not a Banh Mi expert as it appears some previous reviewers might be but this stuff is really good. The owner has always been really nice and I’ve never had to wait very long for my sandwich. If I worked downtown every day, I would eat lunch here all the time. If you have not tried YumMi truck, you must pay them a visit.

Tried them out on food truck day at the midtown global market. The price was good and the owners were a friendly cute couple. The bread was not as good as I’ve had at others but I thought the chicken was very flavorful. The owner told me the secret is chinese five spice. It could have used a little more pickled veggies but overall I thought it was decent. I don’t think I’ll be following this truck around town but not a bad option if your near by.

I love me a Banh Mi. I did not love the YumMi Banh Mi. I visited last Thursday. I was in a hurry. I visited their webpage, after having read rave reviews on them via a local foodie article, to see what their hours were. I planned my visit based upon the posted hours. They were not open when I arrived. I made a few other stops, killing time. When I arrived, I was 4th in line. A woman took all of our orders before starting to ready any orders. Then, a man joined her in making the sandwiches. I had ordered the Moo Mi(beef), Peck Mi(Chicken) and Oink Mi(Pork). I waited, what seemed forever, while they assembled the sandwiches. I had mixed feelings, as they were making the sandwiches fresh, but using precooked meat. While waiting, I heard the woman taking orders offer a punch card to other customers. Not sure why she never offered one to me, as I could be a returning customer, and I had placed a larger order. Anyways, since I was in a hurry, I took my sandwiches to go, and couldn’t consume them on the spot. I was able to dig in to them about 45 minutes later. I don’t think eating them on the spot would have helped these one bit. 1. The bread was all wrong for a classic Banh Mi. Too bread-y. Not crisp at all. The bread sets the tone for a great sandwich, and already this was all wrong. 2. Too much mayo for my liking. Easily forgivable, had the sandwich had anything else going for it, but it didn’t happen. 3. The meats tasted the same on all 3 sandwiches. I did not eat all 3 sandwiches, mind you. I merely tasted each one. I couldn’t tell the difference. 4. $ 8 a sandwich! Are you kidding me! I’ve paid far less for a truly great Banh Mi. I hate to give such a poor rating, but these truly were the worst Banh Mi that I’ve ever had.

Eeeeh I like the concept but some work still needs to be done. I got here at 12:30 today, Friday, and they were sold out of both pork and beef(the two I wanted to try). I settled for chicken and wasn’t impressed. It wasn’t very flavorful, even though it supposedly boasted 5 spices. I also wasn’t much of a fan of the aioli; it just tasted like mayo to me. Another interesting thing about this place is that it’s not a food truck, but a food trailer. Everything is pre-prepared and in hot-boxes and is just assembled to order instead of cooked to order. You would think that due to this fact alone, service should be really quick. But it wasn’t. I actually witnessed two people asking for their money back because they couldn’t wait any longer. I’ll try this place again(beef or pork) and update my review, I think it deserves a second chance though I think the Banh Mi’s at WSK as well as that deli on Eat Street will be hard to beat.

Apparently, they just opened the day before. Husband ordered the full sandwich size Peck Mi(chicken) and I ordered the half size Moo Mi(beef) because it was said to be the spiciest of the selections. They offered to put more sriracha for more kick. The bread was uninspiring – somewhat dry. The meat flavorful but the quantity could have been a bit more generous. The half size measures about 4 fingerbreaths wide for $ 4. Full size is about 8 inches and costs $ 7 – 8. They also offer pork and tofu sandwiches. I admit this was my first banh mi sandwich and I guess that I had higher expectations since Minneapolis is being seen as a Vietnamese foodie place. Would I go back if I lived in the city? Probably, but I’d try some banh mi at other places to understand the dish then return to see if the food truck worked out their initial opening problems. The people behind the counter are really nice – hence 3 stars rather than a lower score.
