I grew up spending a week each summer at the Coral Reef Club with my mom’s whole side of the family. The units are very comfortable – they fit a lot of people, but you’re not cramped in – and every unit we stayed in was nicely furnished. There’s nothing like sitting out on your balcony at night and listening to the waves. And as anyone who’s been to Destin knows, you can’t beat the beach here! The sand is white sugar and the water is warm. All of the staff are friendly, and the complex is very family-friendly. Because CRC is located on old Hwy 98, the buildings are required to be very reasonably sized – I think 3 stories is the max. You won’t find any of the huge, gross developments that Destin has further east, and Henderson State Park is just to the west of CRC. It’s peaceful and quaint here – you don’t feel like a sardine in a skyscraper. I know Coral Reef was severely damaged by Hurricane Dennis. From the website photos, it looks like everything is the same but upgraded – I’m so glad they decided to rebuild! I have the fondest memories of all the vacations spent here, and can’t wait to come back.
