We went there on a Saturday night and there weren’t that many people. The service was very good but the food was just meh. Typically, I’ve never met an empanada that I didn’t like – until now, that is. Theirs are on the sweet side, which I wasn’t expecting. Maybe they should warn people about that on the menu. I got the Christmas special and my son had the Chicken Cordon Bleu. He liked his much better than I liked mine, which was what allowed the rating I gave to creep up to a three, instead of the two I would have given it. Is this restaurant worth your while? Perhaps, especially if you’ve been shopping and would like quick service and don’t want to deal with the crowds. Was it worth the money? Not unless Groupon helps you out.

This is one of those instances where I wish Unilocal had half stars as this would be a solid 3.5. My husband and I stopped in for a late lunch around 2:30 on a Saturday afternoon. We had a Groupon and this place has been on our list since they opened. We walked in and we were the only folks in the place! The décor is simple, but cute and clean. We were seated in one of the booths. I know they were originally planning to get their alcohol license, but not sure if that ever happened — there wasn’t anything around the bar area and the menu only listed nonalcoholic drinks so we both ordered sodas. The menu is international and varied so it’s a little strange to see pasta, arepas and burgers all together — pick your best and stick with it! We started with the tequenos(think South American cheese stick). They were ok — they were just room temperature and some of the cheese was actually cold in the middle. It’s served with a super garlicky sauce. We both ordered pepitos — chicken for me and beef for my husband. The sandwiches were huge and could easily be shared. The menu mentions your choice of side, but we were told the garlic sauce was best. I would definitely opt for the guac based sauce instead next time. Both were well seasoned, but the beef was cooked perfectly and very tender and would be my first choice over the chicken. All in all a good experience and we would try again. They aren’t open for lunch during the week, but hopefully their dinner business is good enough to keep them in business!

There is only one thing you need to eat here. It is called a Cachapa and is, dare I say, divine? It will have you calling my name, that’s for sure! Lol, for real though. The Spot is immaculately clean, and has an impressive menu of items that my children may have never heard about. «What is an Arepa?», you keep asking me… ask your waiter!

The staff were all friendly. We went near closing time with out realizing it. Yet they were still happy to help. The food was great. Excited to find out that there is more Latin cuisine in the area.

First time here, great new food choices. I tried the pepitos with chicken and garlic sauce. Many of the menu items looked wonderful! Only downside is no wine, but they did have beer. Cute décor!

I was expecting a lot more from what I read in past reviews. The food was ok, and the ambience was ok but none of them really stuck out as great. Over all and easily forgettable experience unless you are new to foreign food.

Been here a few times. Never busy at lunch. Food is always fresh so it takes a few minutes longer but the wait has never been bad. Good South American flavors. Not overwhelming for midwestern tastes. Easy social atmosphere ao you can have a conversation while you enjoy your food. Good portion sizes at a reasonable price. We will keep coming back.

Love The Spot! If you’re tired of the same old thing in Mishawaka, come check it out! The pepito is amazing, get the green guac based sauce with it. I also LOVE the chicha drink. Tonight I had a soup, it was the chupa and it was so good. Everything here tastes fresh and not full of preservatives and to me that’s a big deal! Give it a try!

I’ve never had Venezuelan or Peruvian food before, so I had no idea what to expect. I came here with an open mind and left disappointed. I ordered the pepito and while the first few bites were decent, I quickly grew tired of the flavor and couldn’t finish it. My girlfriend ordered a chicken dish and it was honestly something that I could have made at home.

My mother, husband, and I gave this a try a few weeks ago and we were not disappointed. We are all pretty open to trying new foods, so we asked the waiter for some suggestions. I cannot remember the name of the drink, but the waiter described it as refreshing and not overly sweet. We all loved it and we will be getting that whenever we return. We shared an order of empanadas as an appetizer. We’d all had them before, but I can’t resist a good empanada. The appetizer included three empanadas, and you had the option of ordering different types. We got one pork, one beef, and one cheese. The pork and beef were good, but the cheese empanada — oh my. I will only be ordering the cheese empanadas whenever we return. So tasty! My mother ordered a pepito and it was not only delicious, but it was enormous. She had enough leftover to eat for lunch the next day. I don’t remember what the names of the dishes were that my husband and I ordered. Mine included shredded beef, beans, and rice. It was fantastic. My husband’s dish was also superb. All in all, the food was outstanding, our waiter was exceptionally patient and personable, and the prices were fair. I can’t wait to go back!

I had a truly pleasant experience when I dined at The Spot last week with my husband. The décor is so cute and clean. Our server was so polite and helpful and always kept a smile on our faces. I had trouble pronouncing some of the words(I don’t speak Spanish) but our server knew exactly what I meant and helped me out. We started with an appetizer of empanadas and they were simply delicious! They came with an avocado based sauce that completed the flavor perfectly. Then we enjoyed the paella(30min wait but definitely worth it). We had to take a good portion of it home, and even the next day I enjoyed it so much. We didn’t have any room for dessert but our server really recommended we take a dessert home for later, she said they’re all homemade and make a good night time snack. It didn’t take much to convince me since everything else she recommended was so good. We took home a tres leches and a diplomatic pudding. My husband and I were very happy later that we decided to take them home, they were scrumptious! I will be returning soon and have told so many people about The Spot! It’s definitely a place everyone needs to try!

Had the opportunity to eat at The Spot. It is one of those places where the don’t have a specialty. The menu is Italian pasta, Spanish paella, beef stroganoff, chicken cordon on Bleu and a few Venezuelan dishes such as arepas, pabellon and empanadas. I tried the French onion soup. It tasted like beef and onion water. It definitely was not French onion which I have made hundreds of times in the restaurant. All French onion should have the onion cook in sherry wine or port. This soup had absolutely no wine, no sweetness. I ordered paella and have eaten many times in my travels. I could be wrong but I think it was made with canned peas, they were pale green and mushy apposed to fresh or frozen which would be bright green in color. Usually paella has large pieces of chicken and sausage. This was fine chopped up chicken wings with the little pieces of bone left in. If you get any you are getting little pieces of bone in your bites. The chorizo was finely ground. Shrimp were ok. There were no clams but there were a few mussels. Some tiny bay scallops. Definitely a let down. No an authentic paella. Except for the pan it was cooked in. I also tried empanada and arepas. I think that the spot needs to focus on a few excellent dishes that are done better than anyone else and get rid of the food that is not so good which they obviously have little knowledge of. I may give them another try i a few months when they get together and see if they can stay in business long enough to get better.

The only reason I did not give it a Five Star rating as the Five Star rating says«it is as good as it gets» and since it was my first Venezuelan cuisine I don’t have anything to judge it against. I went here a couple of months ago with my son and his wife who live in INDY. They enjoy local places to eat and a wide variety of cuisines so I thought we should give this new local place a try. It was fantastic. We each got something different(I can’t remember the names now) and shared it all. It was all very tasty. I have never had Venezuelan food before so I did not know what to expect, but I enjoyed everything. My son and his wife have friends from Venezuela and have had homemade Venezuelan food and they said this was very good. The owner/waiter was very helpful in explaining the different dishes. The price was pretty good too. Four of us ate for about $ 35.00. So I suggest if you like to experience new food, this is definetly a place to try.

We were actually looking for a Salvadoran restaurant, but it was closed on Mondays, so a quick search for Latin American cuisine offered The Spot as a selection. Never having had Venezuelan food, we asked our server for suggestions. Having recently come from Venezuela herself, she was more than happy to guide us to an authentic dining experience. I would highly suggest doing this, as it eliminates any preconceived notions about what you may or may not like. The chicken salad and shredded yellow cheese Arepa was my personal favorite. In fact, it was so good, that we are already planning a return trip later this week!!!

I had a fantastic meal at the Spot. There were four of us together on a Sunday afternoon. There was hardly anyone in the restaurant, which is a shame. Get with it people! We all got different meals and shared so we could get a good taste of what they had to offer. I had the beef pepito, and it was amazing. I would get that every time, hands down. It was a huge sandwich on baguette. It had scrambled egg, ham, bacon and tons of beef with avocado and onion on top. It was amazing. I know we also had a chachapa and arepa at the table. It was all fantastic. I will be back.

I should say that I have very little experience with Latin food so I can’t speak for the authenticity, but I can say it was delicious! After an extensive explanation of each menu item from our fantastic waitress, my friend and I decided to try multiple dishes from the venezualian section. The arepa was excellent– I’m blanking on the name but it was a chicken pea avocado filling. The cachapa was good but I probably wouldn’t get it again– maybe as an appetizer. Best was the pepito, which is huge and delicious! I would recommend the beef with extra GUASACACA sauce. Bring a friend because even half of the sandwich was super filling. The menu also includes an assortment of pastas, fish, soups, etc., but we didn’t try those and probably will stick to the main events on the venezualian menu We don’t give 5’s very often but great food, good prices and fantastic service– I call it as I see it. However, I’ll take Pablo back to edit this review– he’s a bit more of a stickler

Came here for lunch at the suggestion of my mother-in-law. She said it was a new spot in Mishawaka and thought it would be worth checking out. Luckily she knows my hubby and I love almost any cuisine and are willing to try anything. And very luckily, we have a close Venezuelan friend, so we were familiar with the dishes served. Interior design is super simple. They have about a dozen or so four-top tables and about four-five booths. A few tvs on the one wall and that was it. Nothing special… but I wasn’t there for the interior design. I was here for food. A couple of bathrooms and it looked like they were working on a liquor/beer license to serve. We looked through the menu and decided we all had to get different dishes so we could have a smörgåsbord of food. We stuck with the authentic Venezuelan food. They do have some other foods such as Italian, Spanish, and a few others. We ended up getting a beef pepito, dos arepas-uno reina repiada y uno shredded beef, a cachapa, and the pabelion. I also ordered a drink called chicha, which is similar to horchata but uses the rice not just the water. Ok.food low down. The beef pepito is huge. Rightfully so, but it was stuffed with beef, ham, a scrambled egg, and avocado. Both arepas were really good. The chicken one was sweeter and I believe had a mayo base. The beef had really good flavor and was everyone’s favorite. The pabelion was interesting. I liked how they cooked the black beans and the fried plantains were a plus! The cachapa was super yummy. I’ve had cachapas before but we didn’t have the appropriate cheese. Having the right cheese made this plate really creamy and a little on the sweet side with the corn. I definitely recommend coming here. I felt the prices for all dishes were fairly moderate and the service was great. It helped because my mother-in-law knew our server and he was really helpful explaining the dishes to all of us and helping us out with our decisions. Thanks Raphael!!! :) I will be returning here and I hope they continue to grow and do well. It was definitely an authentic Venezuelan experience!!!
