Store is closed permanently. Don’t go here!!! I don’t know why it’s still listed on Unilocal as it looks like it closes quite some time ago.

I was finally able to grab someone to get directions to what I needed after trying to get help from several employees. Got what I needed and got out without too much hassle. I’ve had worse experiences.

While Sunday is my only real shopping day, I understand why HL closes on Sunday, and I respect their decision. I also don’t mind the Christian tunes(never any lyrics, but I recognize the tunes from when I was younger). They don’t preach to me at the register, so I don’t feel they are forcing anything on me. I am a terrible decorator. In fact, I generally don’t do much more than paint walls colorfully. But, I can certainly go into Hobby Lobby and find a ton of stuff I think I must have to make my house look better! They always have mega sales of 50% off something, so be sure to check the circular online. If what you want isn’t on sale, wait a couple of weeks and it will be. Prices are reasonable without, but they’re a steal with a sale. I will continue to come here when looking for décor ideas.

Bleah. I hate to admit that I’ve even shopped at Hobby Lobby, as I don’t agree with their«agendas»(or beliefs, or whatever you want to call them. Regardless, I don’t agree with them, and think that Hobby Lobby should focus on selling crafts instead of promoting all the crap they promote. But I digress). Anyway, I’m in a crafting place at the moment, and need to get some items done in a short amount of time, so I needed supplies and needed them right away. I went to Michael’s first, but the quality of their supplies has gone downhill since I last visited, and I didn’t want to buy low quailty junk. So Hobby Lobby was close, open, and they had what I needed. One star for that. The second star is because almost everything I bought was on sale for 50% off. YAY for that. Checking out was surprisingly quick and efficient(maybe they’ve been reading the previous reviews?!), though it did take forever for someone to come and open the case of sterling silver clasps for me.(Is it really necessary to lock up the clasps and the swarovski crystals?) I also made sure to only buy things I know I’ll use or need, so that I don’t have to deal with the return policy! So all in all it was a productive shopping excursion, but I won’t be back again unless I’m truly desperate.

There is never enough staff, and while I spent like 19 hours a week here while I was DIY-ing for our wedding, I can’t find ANYTHING. Ugh. And they close at 8 — what? Of course they aren’t open on Sundays. I get it. You are God-ly and stuff. Are you trying to make us pay for our sins by only opening one cash register when there are 20 people in line? I will say I hardly ever have to buy things full-priced here because they always seem to be having a sale. And it is by far the cheapest place to frame something. It just seems to be this necessary evil I continue to return to week upon week. Crap. I have to go tonight.

Overpriced stuff, check. Lousy plastic-y yarn selection, check. Creepy vibe from the staff, check. Must Be Hobby Lobby, eek! Quick, get me to a locally-owned craft store where I don’t feel like I’m in Vanna’s Choice hell. Seriously, Hobby Lobby is OK if you’ve got to run in to pick up one little thing to finish a project, but the bulk of what they carry is shoddy made-in-china mass-produced craft kits. Most crafters I know want to start with the best materials, because if you’re gonna make the effort to create something, you want it to be beautiful or special, and for that you need to start with things that are beautiful. And the nutty part? It’s not that much more expensive, really, at the independent craft stores. I’ve also run into the crazy return policies that Susan mentions, and I liked it just about as well as she did.

Oh Hobby Lobby. So much potential, yet you are a total utter fail. The first Hobby Lobby I went to was actually in the Northland. I had a blast looking around and finding all these tchochke things for the house. I bought a bunch of art supplies for class. Or I should say overbought. This left me with the problem of having to return some of the stuff. Let me just say this, or scream this, rather. HOBBYLOBBYHASTHEMOSTINSANE, SHADIESTRETURNPOLICYEVER. First off, and this is the first time I noticed this, there’s a big sign on the door saying, «Closed on Sunday for family and worship.» Excuse me? I didn’t know Sunday was a religious holiday where people cannot do a thing. Second, it is a slap in the face to people of other religious or no religious background who don’t follow a Sunday holy-day regimen. If this were a mom and pop store, I can understand, since no one else is around to run it. But it’s not. It’s just a slap in the face saying, «yeah, you’re going to hell, non-Jesus believing heathen.» Anyway, I went to return the stuff at this store and was asked for my driver’s license. I had given my credit card, which is really the only thing I need to make a return. I’ve never had a store ask for my driver’s license. So I politely declined, just to get the answer, no, we need it. Then they proceeded to photocopy my license. WTF? I had less than $ 20 in returns too. Can’t they just credit my card? They have it on record. This is the shadiest business practice I’ve ever seen. Well, what if I didn’t have a license and I walked there? I asked the cashier if I had paid in cash, would I still need to show it. Yes. WTF? Let’s just say, I’m extra creeped out about it because I used to work in direct marketing, which is really a fancy way of saying, I used to write and send out junk mail, and know the tactics. I’m wary of giving my information to stores and filling out stuff, period. But my driver’s license. If I paid cash? That’s insanity! I feel like my name is now somewhere on a list deemed for Jesus-junk mail. This is all too much for me, and now I know I can never go here again, in case I need to make a return, because somehow they’ll send some apostles after me. Call me paranoid, that’s just how I feel. All of this is in addition to the point Jennifer made of the extra slowness(which I believe is happening because they’re holding out for the second coming), when buying or returning something. Crafters may love it here but it falls woefully short for student art supplies. Well there are some basics but you’re better off at Utrecht or Creative Snow. Or Michael’s, even though they’re also woefully short, just because the creep factor is a lot less there. PS — To all Christians, I’m not bashing on you. I respect and in turn want to feel respected and Hobby Lobby made me feel just the opposite.

So I’m not really your crafty type, but I’m slowly becoming one out of sheer boredom as of late. I decided to make my grandmother proud and learn how to crochet. I remember her day in, day out on that couch constantly making a new afghan for some family member twice, three times removed because everyone else had their quota, and more. I had watched her make a blanket a thousand times, I could do this right? So I made my way to the Hobby Lobby on a quest for a hook and yarn, and a book on how to actually crochet. Never being there before, I kind of panicked that they might not have a yarn section, going through aisles of christmas crap(so many! it was still august!) and scrapbooking necessities. But finally, after getting sidetracked by the art supplies, I made my way to the knitting section in the far back. Crocheters get their own room! It was kind of exciting, going through the yarns and figuring out what I might need. I have nothing to compare this too, but I bought a flimsy«Learn to Crochet» book(more like a pamphlet) that cost $ 11! But, I needed it. And its actually turned out to be quite useful, so whatever, its only money I don’t really have any beef with Hobby Lobby, but it just seemed like a generic art and crafts store, nothing too exciting.

If only the Bible Beating owners knew that the art supplies I buy here are used to paint naked women. Well, art supplies and the occasional crafty cr*p to make a slutty costume for my next theme party. Maybe God IS punishing me! Could it take any longer to check out? Why don’t they get out a chisel and stone, it would be faster! Maybe that old lady with a barrel of yarn has all day, but us sinners have things to do!
