Their cheese dip was amazing and really like a lite cheese/spinach dip than the typical Mexican cheese dip. I would recommend the Pollo Magnifico as that is there house specialty. What a treat but you better love cheese. Absolutely great food.

The food was ok. Was prepared fine. Wasnt thrilled with rice that came with the meal. Waitress must have been new she could not answer questions she would need to ask someone else. So had others help my table so had to keep repeating my drink order. Alcohol beverage was really strong so that was a plus. Not bad experience overall.

The family had an exciting and long afternoon growing our brains at Science City today, and decided to get some chow at Jose Pepper’s near my sister’s place for supper. We’ve been to this location a handful of times, and have had very normal(which is to say, average at best) Mexican-American dining experiences. Tonight was more of the same. We seemed to stump the hostesses(yes, all three of them) when we asked for a table instead of a booth. Said request created an impromptu 10 minute wait, despite what appeared to be a few open options. Normally not a big deal, but the kids were HUNGRY. In case you haven’t heard, «happy kids, happy life»(or something rather)… Once seated, drinks and dinners were ordered. Everything came out quickly, and was consumed even quicker. Smiles all around. Traffic seemed to pick up big time at 6:00, but as of when we left at 6:15, still no wait on a Saturday night. Ratings are consistent and average, all the way down. Solid, nothing special. Food = 3⁄5 Facility = 3⁄5 Service = 3⁄5 Ambiance = 3⁄5 Value = 3⁄5

Alright food and nice staff. First of all we had a huge group with lots of kids needing kids chairs and whatnot. So they tried put all 12 of us at a booth. Ridiculous! First of all, if you have 3 kids under 2, a booth won’t work. Second of all, why do they even have a booth that«fits» 10 people? Who wants to be that guy in the middle of the booth on each side? Pass! The food was ok. The pico/salsa and chips came often and were pretty good, although I prefer thicker chips that don’t crumble so easily. The rest wasn’t too memorable.

Let me start with this … if your food and plates are so hot your customers can’t eat it for 10 minutes you will not see me again. Annoying customers singing loudly while drunk. Both my husband and I saod no tomatoes… guess what? We both had tomatoes on our food. Got my drink wrong … it was an iced tea, not some magically difficult drink. Won’t be returning.

I’ve had great experiences at other Jose Pepper’s. I’m not entirely sure what has happened with this location. I’m not going to be specific about the communication issues, food issues, or overall disorder. I’d rather drive all the way to Midland and I-435 and avoid this location.

Not a bad tex-mex restaurant. Pretty good enchiladas, fajitas, burritos and combos. They have some great happy hour specials, including $ 2 tacos & margaritas and $ 4 Texas nachos! Don’t forget your coupon for your free queso! Their salsas are decent and some of my favorite dishes include the carnitas tacos, carnitas burrito, and machaca beef crispy tacos. Other menu items worth trying are the Monterey burrito and the chipotle burrito. Service at this locale is alright too, although it can be spotty at times. All in all not bad!

We went as a group of 8 from work for lunch, sat at one of the big booths. The waiter seemed unable to come to our end of the table although there was a floor for him to walk to us, preferring to shout from the other end and pass things down through 6 people. One of our party got her hamburger 5 – 10 minutes after the rest of us were served. It had obviously been under a heat lamp for awhile. My chicken enchilada was adequate, if somewhat overcheesed.

Ever since I have left KC I miss this place. I worked at a place on the plaza that has since closed but these two have very similar menu items. The espinaca dip was a little more«runny» and not as creamy as I remembered but delicious nonetheless. We split the pollo magnifico and the taco al carbon for our meals. I have never had anything like the pollo before. Shredded chicken burrito smothered with jalapeño cream cheese and regular cheese. So good and so cheesy. The taco al carbon are flour tortillas filled with steak, onions, peppers, tomato, avocado and cheese. Again, amazing and just as I remember. The establishment was clean, they are we’re a little slow, but we were greeted pleasantly by the manager and though we had about 3 people help us, it was quick and courteous. I ordered a margarita and never got it, but it was no big deal. The manager even stopped by and took care of our appetizer for forgetting the marg. Great food, great prices and great service.

Not sure what has happened to this place. Started out was one of my favorites but has gone down hill. The wait staff acts like they could care less and if you ask for a refill on anything your bothering them. Took longer than usual to get our chips and salsa and our drinks. Lots of guys running around in ties acting like they are the manager but you can’t tell who is. Even the bartender was getting irritated with the wait staff cuz everyone was asking him for refills on drinks and chips and salsa.

I LOVE Mexican-ish food. I would eat it every meal. I stopped back in the Mission location after having a poor experience in 2014 with non-deveined shrimp in my entrée. The manager did acknowledge the problem and comped the meal. While the wait staff was terrific on this visit, the food wasn’t. The fried pollo magnifico was soggy and the chicken spices were off. The mini tacos were greasy. Not a lot of redeeming tastes on the sampler platter. I’ve crossed Jose Peppers off the list of Mission-area restaurants I’ll visit.

Arrived slightly after lunch rush and were quickly seated. That was the only thing great about it unfortunately. Our server was PAINFULLY slow. Brought out the starters BEFORE our drinks which took forever to get to us, so our queso was cold by the time we got to enjoy it. Our food arrived in parts. SO while half of us had food, half did not and we are ones to eat together so needless to say our food got cold again because they were ridiculousy slow in bringing it all out. Our server dropped salsa on the floor by our table, which splashed onto us. She left it on the floor even after we had left she still hadnt bothered to clean it up or apologize. Did I mention the check? Took forever to pay as well. SLOPPY, SLOW and COLD. Never coming back!

Went to have dinner at 7:30 pm, the place was not very busy yet we left at 7:51 without ever having received a drink of water or talking to a server. When we entered the restaurant the Manager seated us asked what we wanted to drink but never came back with our drink order. We were given chips but again nothing to drink and no server in sight. Finally, after a couple of unsuccessful attempts to flag someone down we got up to leave, still without any drinks. At this point a server walked up… Too little too late! Poor service is one thing… I felt as if we were completely disregarded as customers.

Jose Peppers is a chain restaurant with a large menu of inauthentic Mexican dishes. In general, I would give the chain three stars; however, for this location, I cannot give Jose Peppers higher than two stars. The atmosphere is distracting with far too many televisions interrupting the sight lines of every table. If I wanted to watch television, I would do so in the comfort of my home. If I am to spend the money and time to dine out, I would like to enjoy the company of my tablemates, not have the group of us gazing vacantly at the screens. The children’s menu is rather stingy on its child-friendly distractions, offering a paltry two crayons – green and yellow – with the kid’s coloring page. Perhaps the restaurant is hoping that the televisions will sedate the children as well as they do the adults, but it doesn’t work. There is little amusement for a child to find with only two crayons with which to color. All of this criticism was reached in ample time as the services as so slow as to reach the point of feeling entirely abandoned by our server. So, with bored children and distracted adults, we waited… Not a great experience, to be sure. I have had better experiences at other locations, so if you are looking for a solidly three-star Tex-Mex meal, you would be well advised to check out a Jose Peppers elsewhere.

For a Mexican chain, I’d have to say this is my favorite. Great selection of unique and traditional dishes. I love their espinaca cheese dip. Some of the best chips and salsa around of you ask me! Suggestion: corona shrimp tacos are to die for! You won’t go wrong ordering anything off the menu though. I’ve never tried something I don’t like at Jose peppers.(How can you hate it if it’s smothered in cheese?) My only complaint is their fajitas. I’m a fajita girl and I love lots of peppers. For a restaurant with the name literally having the word«peppers» in it, they sure are stingy with them! Lots of onion, not enough peppers. Good flavor though!

I like Jose Pepper’s. Honest. I’m not much into Mexican chains, but they have good food, so I have eaten at the one further out on Metcalf several times. The Metcalf and hundred-and-something(108th Street?) is a good place to go, and I recommend it if you’re out that way. I wanted to like this location, too, especially since it’s within walking distance of my house. But I went there recently for a family birthday, and the service was dreadful. The place was about half full, so they were able to seat us right away still(this was a mid-week visit), and the waitress took our drink orders fairly quickly. Unfortunately, one of our party didn’t get the right beverage. Okay, hey, these things happen. Then the waitress took awhile to take our order. Again, no big deal. Then when our food arrived, one of our party(the same one, incidentally) got the wrong order – he had ordered a bean burrito and got a chicken burrito. So we called the server back(eventually) and she took the plate back to get it corrected. The manager came out to say, «So, I heard there was a mix-up with one of your orders.» Not quite a «sorry we mixed up your order,» but he did say that he would take half off the entrée, so that counts. We all got our bills, and of course the manager had forgotten to take half off the entrée. We called over the other manager, who then corrected the problem. Meanwhile, while all that drama was going on, the rest of us were rather thirsty, as they never came back to refill our beverages. The three of us who had sodas did eventually get a refill, but the water drinkers in the group just had to suffer. So, overall, the food was decent, but, yeesh, the service… On the way out the door, my friend with the bad luck and I were waiting by the door while the last of our party was getting her things together. The two hostesses saw us standing there and asked us, word for word, «Are you coming, or are you leaving?» Perfect ending.

I went to Jose Peppers with my parents for my birthday dinner last night. I just moved to Merriam from Lawrence a few months ago and will always be a Don Chilitos faithful but wanted to try something different since it was a special occasion. We arrived around 5:30 and we all started with various margaritas. I had one of their anniversary margaritas to start and as delicious as it was, I downgraded to the house margaritas for my 2nd(and maybe my 3rd, hey – it was my birthday after all!) simply because of the cost factor. We had a coupon for a free order of espinaca dip, which was delicious. I’m usually pretty picky about salsa as well but theirs was spot-on. For dinner I ordered the steak fajitas($ 13.99) with no onions and subbed black beans for the charro beans that come with it. My mom got the chicken and avocado enchiladas and my dad got some sort of chicken dish as well. Our food was delivered by a food-runner instead of our waitress and when he walked away I realized that it came with charro beans AND a ton of onions. When our waitress came by I pointed out the mistakes and she offered to take the whole plate back but I told her I’d be fine if she could just replace the beans and bring out some more peppers, as there were only a couple on my plate and I don’t mind eating around onions. The manager came by later and advised that he had given us a discount on my meal because the waitress put the order in correctly but it just wasn’t prepared correctly by the kitchen. All in all, our waitress did a great job. Regardless of the mistake, my fajitas were still some of the best I’ve had. The steak was cooked very well and wasn’t chewy or fatty like some places. I usually feel like it’s mandatory to serve fajitas with shredded cheese as one of the sides, but the flavor of their fajitas(especially with the addition of the yummy salsa) made up for the lack of cheese. Overall, we had a good experience with great service and I will be back.

My roommate and I have been here about 4 times, and we LOVE it. We eat Mexican frequently, and this is our favorite restaurant. Their salsa is amazing. They even let us take some home with us. Everything I’ve had here is delicious. The pollo magnifico(jalapeño cream cheese = swoon) and the mahi tacos are my favorite. I like that they have hand sanitizer at each table. Also, they mail out coupons frequently. We usually get one for free queso. Always get good service too.

Ok, I will eat at Jose Pepper if I have to. I know a lot of folks like Jose because he’s not offensive with a lot of strange things on the menu and LOTS of TexMex and AmeriMex so people don’t get all worried and freaqued out that it might be TOO Mexican. With all that said, my partner informed me a while back that there was a Jose Pepper in Mission and he liked it. So, after our first visit to the IKEA store a couple weeks ago, we decided to stop in at Jose’s because it was convenient and on the way home. We were promptly greeted and seated but it took a while to get the server’s atteniton. In all fairness, he seemed to be quite busy and not because he was ignoring us. This was a Monday and some restaurants are notoriously understaffed during the winter because crowds are inconsistent. Well, we got our order in and didn’t have to wait long. In the meantime, we munched on chips and salsa. Then dinner came. I had a beef enchilada, a cheese enchilada and a chile relleno. Yes, I know that’s a lot. My eyes were bigger than my stomach! Ha! It also came with a side of beans and rice. I ended up taking half of it home and eating it for lunch the next day. But the thing is, the food was quite tasty. The enchiladas were tender and full of cheese or meat and the chile relleno was prepared correctly so it wasn’t tough and leathery. Quite good. It’s a chain and I prefer the little guys and gals but this was a good experience and it’s nice to know Jose is close by.

After about an hour of «I don’t know, what do you want?» I made the executive decision to order Jose Pepper’s for pick up. That is the basis of this review. We have not dined inside. After reading over the menu I placed the call and was advised it would be 15 minutes. We ordered the spinach and cheese dip, the Jose Pepper’s Sampler, a combination plate with tacos and enchiladas, and a kids quesadilla meal. We live very close so we arrived there before time to pick up but were pleasantly surprised to have the order all ready and neatly packed. Everything was labeled and easily accessible. My little one devoured her kids quesadilla. The monster princess loves yogurt tubes so it was nice that the kids meal comes with one. She didn’t touch her rice. The chips were crisp, fresh and still warm. The spinach and cheese dip was tasty as usual. That was truly why I thought of eating here. It’s all about the dip! Their salsa is legit. Although not a perfect 10, it still gets an E for effort. My wife’s platter came with several mini items, tacos, tostadas, chimichangas and rice. My combination plate came with two enchiladas, a taco and rice. Overall the dishes were flavorful. I enjoyed the crispy ground beef taco. The meat was flavorful and the taco was still fried to crispy perfection even after being packed up and waiting to get home to me. The sauce on the enchiladas was reminiscent of the sauce I get from a can when I am feeling too lazy to boil my own chilies. I don’t mean that to sound negative — it isn’t horrible, it just doesn’t make me want to slap my momma or rush back for more. The rice tasted like a treat that you get from San Francisco. Do they still sell that stuff? Anyway, the rice here tastes like it came from a box. Maybe this is why my monster princess didn’t touch hers. Mommy and daddy tasted a few bites and quickly gave up. This place stays fairly busy from what I can tell from the parking lot. I typically have to dodge a few pedestrians when I visit other businesses that reside in the same strip. The patrons from Jose Peppers tend to wonder out into the parking lot without looking more often than visitors leaving other neighboring businesses. I’m not sure why that seems to be, but I am sure to approach this corner of the strip with caution. Overall, the staff here were friendly when placing and picking up our order. The food was prepared and packaged well. I freaking love the dip and I’m sure that I will have it again. If you are looking for an authentic experience, this wouldn’t be a good option for you. But, if you are really into places like On the Border, Taco Bueno, or Taco Bell, you will really get into Jose Peppers.
