The quality just is not there. I’ve tried them twice and have been less than impressed both times.

I don’t get why this place has an overall 3.5 star rating vs. competitors. Is this a fine dining establishment… well no but for take-out Chinese it’s the best option I have found in a 5-mile radius from where I live in Fairway. Im not allocating stars based on ambience as that’s unfair for a take-out spot. I PREFER cheap Chinese spots save the doh on the ambiance and put the investment into the food. In terms of relative food quality and taste level it’s better vs PF Changs, Bo Lings, Blue Koi and any of the other standard neighborhood joints I have tried. This is the only place where the food isn’t swimming in oil and I don’t feel ill(usually a general sense of ickiness) after eating a meal or conversely feel fine health wise but annoyed I spent money for bland food(more the chains). I don’t eat meat so my opinions are limited to the tofu and shrimp entrees… perhaps the rating is lower as the meat is of poor quality? My husband says the white sauce is pretty bland. Who knows. This place is my go-to unless I feel like treking to ABC Café down south. The homemade duck sauce is a must. Especially with the crab Rangoon. Plus they will make any dish with tofu for the vegetarians out there(for example Kung pao).

We have finally had a chance to get this place and it is awesome! I am INLOVE with the shrimp rolls! I think they are a bit pricey but I am addicted and I don’t mind paying a couple extra bucks! It is right down the street from our home and it is fresh, quick, and delicious! I highly recommend it!

I’m a picky eater, so the only dish I get is the general tso’s chicken. It is some of the best fast food meal I ever ate. It was spicy but sweet. Also all of their food is made fresh to order so it’s not sitting in a tub(cough cough Panda Express). Also they are very fast. I would recommend this place to anyone.

The food is pretty good and they offer good portion sizes. Lunch specials offer very competitive prices. It’s pretty standard«strip mall» Chinese food. Don’t expect anything too exciting or different. The restaurant has no ambiance at all. It’s no frills. Service is acceptable, but nothing more. Don’t expect a smile or a thank you. You probably won’t get either.

I had the Singapore noodles and Spring rolls to go. Large portions, fresh and good quality. Every once and a while I get a craving for Americanized Chinese food and this will do nicely. It is a little irritating they charge extra for hot mustard.

Well… I feel like giving New Chinatown 2 stars would be harsh, as there was nothing WRONG with it, per se, but let’s just say that I really wasn’t a fan, and that our quest for good Chinese takeout will continue. Honestly, while our food wasn’t bad, it really wasn’t good either. We ordered 2 egg rolls(which didn’t come with any sauce — happily, we had some at home), and the triple garlic and triple Szechuan meals. Portion sizes were definitely huge, but we honestly had no idea which dish was which, and they both tasted pretty similar, even though they clearly had two different sauces(one brown and one a lurid pinkish orange). Neither was spicy, although they were marked as such, and the chicken and beef in both dishes were pretty poor quality(not entirely unexpected), though there were plenty of vegetables and a good portion of large shrimp, so that made up for the other icky meats. My husband liked the food more than I did, but even he was just mediocre on everything. Service wasn’t overly friendly, which I’ve found to be pretty par for the course for takeout places like this, but everything was packaged well, and still hot when we got it home. There weren’t any extras in the bag that other places seem to provide, though — no sauce, no utensils, etc. We did get 2 fortune cookies with hilariously strange fortunes, so that was a high point of the meal. I’m glad we gave New Chinatown a try, just to verify that we weren’t missing out on an absolute gem close to home, but I will definitely be looking elsewhere the next time a craving for Chinese food hits.

This place is great for a quick, tasty inexpensive Chinese meal! They have about every Chinese item you can think of! Their hot & sour soup is wonderful and my favorite dishes are hot and spicy chicken, kung pao chicken or shrimp, or generals chicken. They also have some delicious Thai food. If you are on the go, give them a try!

Prices are right here at New Chinatown. I ordered vegetable Lo Mein and veggie spring rolls. Watched the cashier grab them from the freezer so guess they are not as fresh as some other places I’ve been. I did order the«lunch» special but was told that they don’t do 2 veggie spring rolls for .50 cents as listed on the menu, only order of 4. Cost wise it’s the same but obviously the menu needs some updating. All in all not bad.

This is probably my most-frequented place for Chinese food currently. They have fair prices and a wide selection of dishes that expand from the standard offerings of General Tsos and Sesame Chicken. Currently, my favorite(besides their yummy Crab Rangoon) would be the combination Cantonese Noodles.

My husband and I are regulars here. In Mission, there really aren’t many Chinese places period. But when we do crave it, we always order here. We tried a couple of other places, but we like this one best. I have had several dishes here, but my favorite is the honey chicken. Some of the other chicken dishes I’ve had didn’t have the same texture. The honey chicken is crispy and some of the other dishes have more of a soft texture. I also really like their pork dumplings. It really isn’t bad for the price, but we have seen the prices increase a few times since going here. But it hasn’t prevented us from always buying from them. I will admit, sometimes it’s a hit or miss. The quality isn’t always consistent, but it’s never so poor that I’ve not eaten it. I also enjoy the chow mein noodles. The noodles are firm and I like that they don’t bathe them in sauce. I’ve not really had an awful dish here.

This is the best Chinese takeout I’ve ever had! My girlfriend and I have been eating here for years and have never had a bad meal! The egg rolls are great, my go to’s are the Sesame Chicken and the Black Pepper Chicken(the lemongrass prawn soup is pretty good as well) and hers is the Cashew Chicken. Always… the Cashew Chicken… They are very traditional, blunt and fast spoken which can come off as rude or brash to us midwesterners but they are very nice people.

pretty decent fast Chinese food. Its all cooked fresh and is perfect if you want a cheap, convenient enjoyable fast meal. It would be much much better, if they expanded the menu, and added more sauces. If you were to eat here frequently, you’d end up getting tired of the way they do things. Honestly, they should have a delivery service! You can do a whole lot worse in KC. In particular the places that pass for buffets in this town!

To be completely honest, I go here because it’s close to my house and I LOVE their fried dumplings. Their entrees are mediocre from what I have tried so I just stick to the dumplings. It’s quick, decently priced, and is fairly busy which are all good signs for me.

Their customer service is short and bitter sweet, but their food is always good. Shrimp and broccoli is awesome, especially when you cover it in white rice :) they have AMAZING crab wontons too!

Originally I was holding one back because they don’t deliver. Then I realized, as much as I am two doors down(at the liquor store((blushes a little))) I am trippin. I need to give these hard working folks those stars! It took 20 seconds to place this order. No need to repeat myself, the order is taken with precision.(which is more than I can say for other business I call in orders to) The inside of their store is always crazy clean. No dirty tables, no flies, no strange smell, just clean. Like I said in my previous review, you don’t get a lot of cheeky smiley bullshit, but these folks are hustlin’ around this joint. You do get common courtesy, which is all I ask for. Once I get there my order is ALWAYS ready to go. I never wait. Never. I get home and my order is perfectly cooked and it is always the same. Never have I had a bad meal from Chinatown. Tonight the monster-princess requested«Chinafood» after daddy ordered a pizza for pick up. I have to say that our combination lo mien was the star of the dinner plate this evening. Thanks New Chinatown– for holdin it down! I know its always going to be tasty, delicious, hot and fast. You rock my world. I’m just saying. PS. My monster-princess loves you too.

How is it possible I live in a town with 1.5 million people, and there is no Chinese restaurant delivery to my house? At least there’s plenty of carry out nearby… These guys are a solid three stars. No complaints, but no raves either. Definitely an Applebee’s-esque Chinese food experience. We got some General’s Chicken, broccoli & beef, and crab rangoon. The portions were just about perfect and the prices were hard to complain about. But the food was average. We’ll likely pick up or drop by there when we need a fix, but it’s not a place I’ll save for company.

I’ve lived near this place for 10 years. I’ve gone to the little strip mall it’s in 3 or 4 times a week for most of those 10 years. I’ve never once considered visiting New Chinatown. That changed this week for no other reason than they had one of those Groupon or Muncharoo deals. That caused me to look New Chinatown up on here and realize that people actually like it. So, curious, on a trip to the little strip mall I stopped into New Chinatown to pick up some lunch. I went with a boring order of sweet and sour chicken and got the chicken fried rice with it because the pictures on the menu showed the fried rice didn’t have peas in it. I hate peas and mostly avoid fried rice because of them. Everything is prepared on your order so you have to wait a couple of minutes for your food. This wait is worth it. New Chinatown is rather boring looking inside, no faux Chinese décor. You could switch the Quiznos location with New Chinatown and not notice much of a difference. Well, one difference, New Chinatown is cleaner. It’s really ridiculously clean. You’ll notice that while you wait for your food. The counter help is no nonsense and light on the English but they get your order right and give you a smile, that’s all you need. I got my food to go. It comes in a sturdy aluminum bowl with a good lid and is surprisingly weighty. I got the food home in a couple of minutes and was greeted with a steam bath upon opening the lid. The sweet and sour chicken had a large amount of sauce on the side so the chicken wouldn’t get soggy. And soggy it was not, the breading had a nice crisp bite to it and the chicken was nice and tender and flavorful, none of that stringy, hard to chew chicken you get at bad chinese restaurants and Chinese counters at grocery stores(don’t judge me, sometimes the Chinese mood strikes me at the Hy-vee). If I have a criticism, and it’s a very slight one and the absence of fried rice from my life should be taken into account, it’s that the chicken fried rice may have been a touch salty. MAYHAVEBEEN, not WAS and really I’m nitpicking here because I ate as much of it as I could. And I couldn’t eat it all. I spent $ 5.50 and got all I could eat. Sadly, I went again the next day, which was yesterday. I’m typing this an hour before lunch and if I didn’t have lunch plans already, I would make it a 3rd day in a row. I got the General Tso’s chicken yesterday with steamed rice. Minor complaint, the General Tso’s wasn’t quite as spicy as I would prefer. But the steamed rice is some of the best I’ve had. I should also mention the crab rangoon, something I view as just a thing to eat with Chinese food and is rarely any good, is something that’s so good, that it’s a selling point for the place. Just a note about the 5 stars, I give 5 stars because it’s the best Chinese takeout place I’ve eaten at, not because I find it better than Blanc or Oklahoma Joe’s or any other great KC restaurant. It is what it is, but it’s very good at being that, so I give 5 stars.

If you’re in the area and would like a classic cheap Chinese lunch stop by here. I had a coupon and stopped by for lunch. Once again I was fooled by the spicy symbol next to the item on the order board. If the order wasn’t called out by name to pick up at the counter I would have sworn the Schezuan Chicken was really Sweet & Sour Chicken. Regardless of the sweetness of the meal, it was decent. There were large pieces of chicken and the veggies weren’t overwhelming. I also ordered a small Hot and Sour soup. It was more sour than hot(both temperature and spice). Bummer. But the size of the small is huge. It’s big enough to share. The winner of lunch was the crab rangoon. It was pretty darn good. The lunch order includes an entrée and rice(fried or steamed). They offer 2 crab rangoon or spring rolls for an extra .50. Overall, the lunch was fine and filling. The crab rangoon popped my rating up to 3 stars or it would have been a solid 2 star.
