Lamar Liquor is a little out-of-the-way store on the corner of 51st and Lamar. Since it is the closest liquor store to where I live, I stopped in to get a 6-pack that I volunteered to bring for a bridal party. Since this corner obviously isn’t the shopping mecca of Kansas City(or even Mission, for that matter), the store obviously isn’t that busy and doesn’t try to keep up appearances with silly things like ads or cleaning. Nevertheless, it is a liquor store and gets the job done well. The clerk was a bigger guy who greeted me when I walked in(while he was watching TV– sweet) and I wondered around, wondering what kind I should get. I settled on a 6-pack of strawberry blonde(it was a bridal shower, after all), which was a little over $ 7. In the rest of the store, I found that the prices are pretty competitive and average for the area. They have a pretty normal selection of your ol’ regulars– Budweiser, Miller, and(uck) Coors. I was impressed that they had Corona Light(no one EVER carries it!), along with Red Stripe(my favorite). At the counter, they also have a good selection of tiny $ 1 – 2 bottles. I love those, especially when I want to try something new(or just have enough to drink for one night) and don’t want to buy the entire bottle.
