John Word’s Restaurant and Jazz Cafe

Not worth the money. Food tasted used as if they cook freeze then reheat in microwave. do not waste time better restaurants down the street. service not good as well.

This is a new low. Out of respect for the owner who has been around a long time, I will not go into detail about our experience. Will only say, now that his daughter is running the place they might as well go ahead and close the doors. She should be ashamed, because John Word really did care about his business and customers, and she is taking away from his legacy.

Sorry, John, but it has to be done.
I have eaten at his restaurants for close to 40 years and this is not the first time the doors need to be closed.
Breakfast is equal to IHOP with slower service and a dirtier environment. Last week I had ONE egg (that was all) with a glass of water (that was served with no ice or straw). My bill was a nifty $ 3.00. The egg was delivered on a coffee dish. I kid you not — the yolk was centered beautifully in that little dip meant for a cup. But I must way the $ 0.18 egg was cooked exactly as I had requested.
Dinner is the exact same menu I recall as a child and the freshness dated back to that time as well. My pork chop was quite large, but was frozen solid in the middle. I could go on, but became too disgusted to even consider trying to go on. My 80 y.o. waitress kindly offered to «run it back in the microwave» but decided to wear a brave smile and pass up on her kind offer.
Yuck yuck and yuck. The décor is older than the owner (and the staff possibly combined) and has well outlived its place surrounded with better options.

I have been here a couple of times and find it so-​so. The wait staff is not very friendly, but they are efficient. The Casino Oysters are wonderful as is the stuffed lobster. However, I ordered the combo shrimp and scallop plate (grilled) most recently and found it VERY boring. There was no flavor to it at all. My husband ordered hush puppies which were very fresh, and we were pleased that dessert came with dinner (although the strawberries on the strawberry shortcake were frozen solid and the whiskey sauce on the bread pudding was incredibly overwhelming). Probably will not eat here again for a while.

I have been here a couple time. I highly recommend the «Crabby Lady». Steaks are always cooked to perfection. It can be a little pricey but you pay for what you get and I have always left satisfied.
