Dan’s BBQ

We ordered the meal where you get to pick 3 meats. This place is the best BBQ so far in Modesto that I have been to — - but they lost a star because there were only 2 other people in the restaurant when we arrived yet it took 25minutes for our food to be ready to go. The ribs were cold like they’d been sitting out for a long time, and they didn’t give us BBQ sauce. The tri tip, linguisa and chili were really great though!

Stopped in tonight to try their barbecue. Good barbecue places are hard-​to-​find.
I was really hungry so I ordered the 3-​meat combo $ 20. You get your choice of meats. I chose tri-​tip, ribs and pulled pork. Comes with two slices of Texas type toast and two sides. For my sides I chose garlic fries and chili beans.

The fries were fresh, hot and good. The chili beans were warm and needed more flavor i.e. spiciness. Ribs were OK but not hot. Tri-​tip and pulled pork was sliced thin and was good. The Texas toast would benefit for a few minutes of browning on the grill. The barbecue sauce was meh… it did the job but not memorable

Came in for lunch, we had a kid’s meal cheese burger, tri-​tip sandwich, and a hot link sandwich. Everything was delicious and fresh.

This place has amazing BBQ! Don’t be fooled by the appearance, this place is the bomb. Best pulled pork I’ve ever had, burgers are tasty and freshly made. Im not crazy about the ribs but everything else is great. Definitely give it a try.

I will definitely come back here. I got the pulled pork sandwich and my friend the tri tip. Both were amazing, the bread was awesome, plenty of BBQ sauce and pork and it was hot. Like hot hot. He even warned me it was hot. I think the best part was how heavy the sandwich was. Took me by surprise lol the place is quite small but the owner Dan, I assume it was, had his whole family there and we were the only other people so it was nice. They even brought he food to our tables which was cool. My friend says the bathroom’s also quite nicer than he expected for those who want to know xD definitely coming back

Not anything close to real BBQ. The $ 20 sampler was just 3 poor quality meats lathered with some BBQ sauce (actually, it tasted like teriyaki sauce). The «tri tip» was inedible — a very cheap cut of what seemed to be flap steak. If what you like is bogus BBQ, this is the place for you.

Ordered two family packs, got pulled pork mashed potatoes, beans and onion rings for one order. The other order was Tri-​tip, mashed potatoes and garlic fries. I have to say everything was amazing, I could have passed up on the beans was not a big fan but at least they were still good.

Worth the visit.
I got the DUBB and added jalepeños to it. Garlic fries. Heaven in my mouth.
Next time I’ll go for the BBQ menu. Or just get the DUBB again.

2 words, HELLA BOMB. Love this place and will continue to keep coming back. The meat is so soft and tender like no other place. Everything is on point.

Some truly excellent tritip. Get the sandwich and add a couple baby back ribs. Great sauce, not overly sweet. Also Dan is a friendly guy. I’ll be back for lunch whenever I’m in the area.

Came here for lunch. I ordered the tri tip sandwich with regular fries and my boyfriend ordered the ribs plate with garlic fries. I should’ve sprang for the garlic fries because they were delicious! He enjoyed his ribs and my sandwich was also delicious, very tender and the BBQ sauce was pretty good. I felt like they were very reasonably priced, certainly better than any over priced chain restaurant. I agree with a previous reviewer, some cold beer would have been nice (but probably a licensing issue). I’m not sure if it was the lighting, the fact that it’s an old building, or both, but it seemed a bit dingy, not exactly dirty, just not super clean. Might be a «dive» feature. Anyway, the staff was very friendly and I will be returning to try one of their scrumptious sounding burgers! Among other items ;)

Been here a few times and their tritip is delicious. Well worth the price, possibly the best in Modesto.
There isn’t much parking but don’t let that deter you.

I came in to Dan’s bbq asking change for 100 dollar bill. A lot of stores wouldn’t even give me change but i bought a soda and gave me change. I told him I would come back during lunch and try his bbq out. I ordered 5 bbq dishes on lunch for me and my co-​workers. They loved it!
Def. will be coming back soon. They got a traditional authentic feel to their service and food. Way better than Dickies!

After hearing great reviews in person and on Unilocal,my wife & I decided to try Dan’s tonight.
I first tried calling but after several times «circuit busy» from my house phone, I drove over and placed the order. Just as I imagined they were packed, so calling ahead would have been perfect. So I ended up waiting for about 25 minutes for my order Togo.
We ordered the 3 way combo (pulled pork, Tri-​too & linguisa), ½ slab of ribs, home style beans, steak fries & cole slaw. It came with toast, pickles & onion slices.
I gave the 2 stars for the fries, cole slaw & toast. Everything else was so-​so. Tri-​tip had no flavor, barely can taste smoke. Pulled pork, was ok, linguisa was burnt and although the ribs were tender and had a taste of smoke they were not bad. You definitely have to ask for extra BBQ sauce, they hardly put any on, so unfortunately I can not review the sauce.
Home style beans, no flavor, needed salt maybe some brown sugar something.

Simplicity with honesty and passion can creat a real treat for hungry stomachs and Dan’s Bbq is a vivid example of this. No loud music, not too many people around you and not too much tax on your pocket but you get what actually you went for. Top notch Bbq and excellent personal service. Don is very passionate about his food and you can taste that. No wonder I run into many repeat customer.

Was heading back from a work meeting and spotted a sign for BBQ. Decided to try it out. Location is what I expect from a True BBQ place. Had the tri tip combo with baked beans.
This was some of the best BBQ I’ve had in a while. Very friendly staff too. Will definitely go back when I’m in the area.

A coworker and I stopped in for lunch. I ordered theDouble Trouble with cheese, she had the Porky Burger with cheese. Both had freaking fantastice flavor! French fries are amazing too. So good they don’t need ketchup.
I’m a sucker for a cheeseburger. And I will be craving this one.
Would have given it 5 stars, but it was a bit smokey in the dining room, which made it a bit uncomfortable.

#2 Service: This small restaurant has friendly people. It’s family owned.
#3 Wait time: My fiancé and I didn’t wait too long to get our tender BBQ dinner. She had the pull pork combo and I had the Tri tip combo.
#4 Price: A combo meal for a tritip sandwich, fries (or mashed potatoes) and a drink (with refills optional) at $ 9! It’s a worth the price!
#5 Cleanliness: It was moderately clean. The bathroom was well kept.
I’m happy coming here. I intend to eat here again.
