Dorothy’s Tile & Stone

In sourcing materials for a shower remodel, I started with «big box» stores, and quickly moved to several local specialty stores, based on contractors’ recommendations. Each surpassed the big chains, but my favorite was Dorothy’s. They have a wide variety of quality tile, along with the other items needed to get the job done (seat frames, wall inserts, grout, sealers, etc.).
Janice, the owner, was a helpful sounding board in helping to match my tile choice to a mosaic accent along with grout color. She generously loaned samples to take home to «try out». The office manager, Travis, did a nice job of communicating to the contractor and me regarding the status of our orders. All interactions with them were pleasant and professional.
I would use Dorothy’s as my starting point for future tile projects.

We had a great experience getting our tile here! We were given a lot of help picking 2 different tiles, had over 1800 sf of tile installed by a tile setter they recommend. Also bought some wonderful distressed wood for above our fireplace. Wonderful experience, everything was as promised and on time. I would recommend them to anyone!

I have been to their show room many times and have never left without being amazed. They have some of the best hand crafted tile I have been able to find. Vanessa took time to understand what the look was that I was going after and recommended beautiful wood tiles. She explained how everyone of the tiles was hand selected barn wood from Colorado and that this wasn’t sold in any other store because of their relationship with the maker. That to me was amazing… there is a private manufacturer who is only willing to sell to this company because of how amazing they are. That in itself speaks volumes!!! This is an amazing team with amazing products and if you want to be treated like a one of a kind and not just a customer come here! Will NEVER GO BACK! This place has zero knowledge of their own products.
I go in there with a tile to match for my business. It was a old tile and I have no clue where the previous owners bought it from. My only concern was that it look somewhat similar and not be obviously different. I told them I needed it in a 12×12.
The first lady walks around the store and couldnt find anything so she pawns me off on some other guy. This guy again walks around the store, couldnt find anything and looked to see what he had in the back. He comes out with two options and I picked one. Little did I know the guy sold me the wrong size!
I take my tile back to my place of business and my maintenance guy pops the cracked ones out and goes to put these in. There was a huge variance in the size. I called the store and told them that these arent 12 inches and he tells me that not all tiles will be 12 inches exactly. I came in with a 12 inch tile and was only interested that size and that he should’ve told me that they werent 12 inches. He responds with «yeah i should’ve» and then silence. F*ck this place…

Not very helpful, we ordered the Schluter shower kit from them, never were we told there is a 30 day return policy. My husband took it back when it did not fit. They called customer service with Schluter, which they explained how to adjust it. Ok… well we have had 3 bids for our shower to be tiled and none of them will use the Schluter kit. A week later we go back to Dorthy’s tile to return the shower pan & they inform us that the 30 days is up. Guess we should have returned it the following week. Not only does there receipt not disclose this, the FEMALE OWNER got really nasty with my husband! Way to go on your customer service! The husband was apologetic and even offered to have a guy that worked with Schluter come and give us a bid, but we have a tile floor install also so that is no help. Mean while we are out around $ 900, I will not give them any more of my hard earned money! Save your self a lot of problems & headaches and take your money somewhere else!

Ordered tile and was told by Zachary that we would have it in a week– Tuesday at the earliest and Friday at the latest. No one ever called to let me know if it was in so come Friday (a week and a half later) I went in. My tile wasn’t in and everything was on back order all of a sudden. I needed this tile to finish my bathroom and he then told me it would be a long time before all the pieces were in. But that wasn’t the story when he was so eager to take my money a week and a half ago. Liars and disrespectful when it came to refunding my money.

First, I have to say that I know these people they are like family to my wife and I. So here’s the deal with this place. It’s a mom and pop shop local to Modesto for years. It has a long history for selling and selecting some of the most beautiful tile found everywhere in Modesto.
They have better than average knowlege of the product, great support, largest selection, and best advise you will find.
I just had the counters done using tile from here and it’s beautiful. Go look for yourself. You won’t fine this quality or selection anywhere else. Yeah you have to order and no it’s not as cheap as some of it’s competitors but the end result was worth every penny.
I would do it again even if I didn’t know them!!!
And yes we did look at Lowes, Home Depot and whoever else we went to price shop. It’s just not the same.
