After Blockbuster closed down, my husband and I had to find a different video rental place so we stumbled on Video King. We had our membership for a couple months with customer service issues. Employees didn’t seem to care to aid us in finding what we need. A couple weeks ago, my husband and I rented a movie from there. When we got home, the movie didn’t play at all. We were a little upset because it ruined our movie night. The next day, my husband returned the DVD and a girl that worked there said we can get a free movie. Ok nice next time. Fast forward to a couple weeks, my husband calls and now they say we owe $ 10 for a cracked movie. To our surprise, we were very upset because we did not crack the movie, they gave it to us like that. After talking to them for several minutes, they told us that we can just pay $ 5. It’s not about the money but the principal. We are not paying a penny for someone else’s mistake. The girl Mary that worked there gave us the DVD that way. I wanted to cancel membership right away because I don’t want to deal with people who can’t admit their mistake and blame it on the innocent. My husband wanted me to talk to the owner prior to canceling so the next day I got the chance to talk to the owner. And guess what? RUDE owner. He told me that Mary said she gave it to us without a crack and that all his employees check the DVDs before renting them out. That’s wonderful, however he fails to comprehend that sometimes employees make mistakes and in this instance his employee made a mistake. I told him I wouldn’t pay even a quarter to something I didn’t do and I canceled my membership. If you can avoid this place, I suggest you do. They do not care about their customers, bad customer service, bad owner!!!

Just had time to finally come and see the new store since they had moved. The owner was so happy to see me and asked about my family. He said he appreciated seeing me and that I was continuing on still being his customer even though he had moved. I still had a $ 2 credit from last year. It never expires here! I asked for some recommendations and he walked around the store with me and helped me get the ones on the tallest shelf. =0) The new store looks great and it was great to see the owner doing well still in the new location.

The only place I could find Freedom Writers. Last time I rented from them was 15 years ago. They still had my account info.(you can’t hide) :-) The place looks great. Friendly service too! 2 – 5 day rentals beats the competition! I’ll be back, sooner.

I hope this business is able to survive the Netflix craze. They are really good at having the latest movies in stock, and if you are from Modesto, then you’ll be happy to know that this place fits in the perfect medium of not being to busy so that you can check in and check out quickly. The employees do a good job.

It’s never EVER crowded, and usually I can score a new release. The employees are nice kids. Minus one star for not stocking Sour Patch Kids anymore :-(
