This is your typical stuck in the 90s, subpar mall; Kaufmann’s turned to Macy’s. With that being said, don’t expect to come here and be dazzled by the size(it’s small-ish), range of merchandise(yes, it ranges, but don’t expect to have a vast selection of items for each brand), or décor(did I mention the 90s yet?). I walked in, looked around, browsed the clearance, felt meh, and then turned around and walked back out. I picture myself in one of those late 90s teen movies where all they did was walk around malls. I wanted to start talking like a valley girl while I was in here trying on my Tommy Hilfiger(carpenter jeans of course). Update please. All you need to do is spruce up a bit; you won’t look that drab on the inside. In a previous post, I loved the Starbucks-Mayberry statement… totally true.

Composite review. I remain a fan of Macy’s as one of the only remaining«big store» anchors in the Beaver County Mall shopping center. This Macy’s always has fresh materials, good layouts, helpful staff, and decent prices. If one shops routinely the sales will make great sense. Holiday decorations is where Macy’s shines. Simply a fun time to go into the place and wander about. Music, ambiance — same store inside that you might find in any big city, and it is here in Beaver County. f8 and be there.

You cannot beat the prices you get here! I just bought a $ 300 Michael Kors bag for $ 150! I love diving through the clearance racks and finding quality clothes for next to nothing. I never buy shoes at this location. The ladies at this location could care less that your there and really couldn’t be bothered. I usually order shoes online and return them in this store. A little payback for cranky shoe ladies. Everyone else in the store is always amazing and helpful though. Steer clear of the shoe department!

It’s like putting a Starbucks in Mayberry. In a community where most of the people are out of style, can’t afford a 20 dollar shirt, this little gem sits. It’s never busy. Great to come here during the holidays just to not have to deal with the crowds. They sell clothing here and have a fine housewares section. When I browsed the housewares they were really friendly and not pushy. The purse section was humorous. Libby the sales consultant told my boyfriend that she would get a chocolate cupcake if he signed up for a Macy’s card. You know that you are in a recession when your employer can not afford a raise/bonus but can afford a cupcake. It didn’t end there though. She followed us around begging noting it would only take a few minutes. We finally got tired of her begging and left the store. This location does not have a M.A.C counter or a Chanel counter. Save that for the bigger locations like Robinson or Youngstown.

As a child, I always remembered Macy’s, along with Bloomingdale’s, being mentioned quite often on television, particularly on New York-centric sit-coms. And of course there’s that big Turkey Day parade they’re known for putting on. Suffice it to say, this chain of department stores had a mystique to it along with everything else about The Big Apple. So when Macy’s came to Western PA and shockingly usurped the spot once held by the seemingly durable and mighty Kaufmann’s, my curiosity was aroused. Nevertheless, the transition has been seemless, but the difference has been minimal. Don’t get me wrong, in terms of menswear, Macy’s, like Kaufmann’s, has a healthy selection, but the prices are a bit steep. I did find a pair of jeans I wanted in my correct size, but after being marked down by $ 19, they were still almost $ 35! The fixation hipsters have with second-hand apparel: I understand it now. P. S. I used to visit the Downtown Pittsburgh location often, but it has been at least 18 months since I was last there, so no review yet. All I can say is that I do recall their merch being expensive as well and expensive as hell.
