Despite being the only customers, the wait staff were very busy sitting at a table together and seemed annoyed we were even there. One trip to the bathroom down the filthy hallway in the back, made me turn around and get out of there. I don’t even know how to describe the filth.

Place is okay, been there a few times, kinda small, eggs were always runny and waitress wasn’t enthused to be there.

What a friendly, pleasant, clean place! We’re always looking for a new diner to visit, so we drove to Monroe Township to try the Monroe DIner and Family Restaurant. At first, we couldn’t find the diner, since it’s a part of a large shopping center, but we finally found it at one end of the parking lot. We were greeted very warmly and were happy to see that the menu is not gigantic. We both had the c hicken kebob, which was served on a fresh, beautiful Greek salad with pita bread and a generous dish of tzatziki. Everything was delicious, our waiter was pleasant and always available. We were so pleased with this meal and look forward to returning. By the way, they have a website. It’s

Great diner! That’s the best two-word review I can come up with, and it really does fit this place perfectly! You know what you’re going for when you typically go out to a diner, right? You’re looking for decent food, nothing too fancy or frilly, but nothing atrocious or unpleasant. You want a decent meal for a decent price. On these fronts, Monroe Diner and Family Restaurant(it’s actual full name) delivers, and then goes above and beyond the standard for solid diner fare! I went on a Wednesday for lunch right around 12:15pm or so. The place wasn’t too crowded, and someone met me right away and I was seated immediately. They have a sizeable menu, nothing too huge, about 8 pages, and they also had a full page of lunch and dinner specials. I ended up going with one of these, the Greek Combo, and let me say it was a value and then some! First, the meal came with soup, my choice of chicken noodle or vegetable. I went with the former. The broth was great; not overly salty or greasy, but full of chicken flavor. The noodles were cooked just right, as were the vegetables. The chicken(might have been turkey) was evenly sliced and not broken down from having sat in the soup all day. Overall, worth mentioning for the unexpected quality! The meal itself was huge. After the soup, the main portion included: large plate of Greek salad on which most everything else was placed; two gyro strips; grilled chicken breast; two stuffed grape leaves; side plate of pita bread; side of house dressing; side of tzatziki sauce. Wow, that was a lot of food! The ingredients were very fresh for the most part. The only exceptions were the canned olives(I do prefer kalamata, but this is really not a complaint, just a taste preference), and the pre-formed gyro strips, both of which were still ‘fresh,’ just not perhaps the most appealing aspects of the dish. What was a winner, though, was the chicken. Perfectly cooked, juicy, hot, tender, flavorful… a definite win in a realm of generally overcooked, rubbery, cold, uninspiring chicken in salads. I’m pretty sure the tzatziki was homemade, too. If it wasn’t, it was the best quality mass-produced kind I’ve ever had. I was missing it after I left. I missed the entire dish, really. It wasn’t a fancy meal, it wasn’t fast food either(though it did come out fairly quickly). What it was, was solid diner food. A great meal at a great price. In the end, isn’t that what we come to expect from our diners? When a place delivers it, we are satisfied; when one goes above the average it is worth mentioning and remembering. If I’m in the area again, this place is definitely on my list of places to return to!
