Having read some of the reviews saying the food is good, I decided to grab a late lunch at R Diner while waiting for a prescription to be filled at the nearby CVS. There were two… maybe three tables seated/eating when I walked in. I sat in a booth and waited. And waited. And waited. The waitress passed by me half a dozen times like I wasn’t there. I even double-checked to see if I had missed the«Please wait to be seated» sign, but there was no such sign. A man that looked to be the owner or manager was standing near the cash register, doing nothing. Finally after about 6 – 7 minutes(10 if I was an exaggerater) The waitress told me she would be with me shortly. After 5 or so more minutes, during which she must have passed by my table numerous times, I had still not even received a menu, a water, a place setting, nothing. I finally stood up and walked out, and I don’t think anyone, including the big shot by the register, even noticed. R Diner may have good food, but I’ll never find out. Service is equally important, and in that catagory they are a total fail.

Very good food for just a locally owned diner. Service is not really exceptional but it’s not horrible. If you are looking to get away from fast food but not wanting to spend a fortune I recommend you give them a try.

My family and I dined at this restaurant for the second time last weekend. My first visit for breakfast. The restaurant was busy as it was Mother’s Day. However, there were many issues with the service/food. We were seated quickly and our waitress was very nice and helpful. However, it took awhile to get our food. The food was room temperature, not as hot as it should have been. The syrup served was a bottle of Aunt Jemima and the toast was not even toasted and extremely thick. The quality of food was not great and showed that the items were not made from scratch. After finishing our food and the waitress clearing the table another 20 minutes went by and our bill was never delivered to our table. We decided to just go to the hostess station and ask for our own bill. My brother and I were treating our parents to breakfast so we asked to have the bill split in ½. This is not an unusual request as I have done this at several other restaurants before. The cashier said there was no problem and proceeded to check us out… unfortunately she charged the entire bill to my brothers credit card. After apologizing a couple hostesses tried to correct the issue. While not having any luck the young girl proceeded to ask the owner who was sitting at the bar for help. The bar is located right at the front of the restaurant where we were standing as well as other people who were waiting for a table. He proceeded to yell at the young girl loud enough for my brother and I to hear«Tell them that they will just have to pay for the bill on one card! Tell them we can’t do it for them!» His tone and mannerisms were very nasty and not professional at all. The poor young girl was very upset by the way he was speaking with her. We felt very bad for her and didn’t mean to get her in trouble so after 15 minutes waiting for this issue to be resolved we just decided to charge it all on one credit card so we could get out of there. My family and I have decided we will never dine at this restaurant again due to the way the employees were treated, slow service and under par food.

Found this place on Unilocal for breakfast. It did not disappoint! I had Irish Eggs Benedict(corned beef instead of ham) and it was awesome. My son had the southern platter and loved it – a lot of food though. A cup of coffee and a side of toast with that totaled $ 21.69. Not bad at all. I don’t know when I will have a chance to be back here but I would definitely do it again.

The service is excellent and overall a welcoming place – clean and comfortable. Food is nothing fancy but is delicious. This is a diner and the menu is diverse as expected. My husband and I love the potato salad and recommend R Diner to those who like breakfast any time of day.

Stopped in here for my wife’s birthday breakfast as that is here favorite meal. The food was pretty good but may not be back because of costs. Had the hungry man breakfast and it was good and filling. Just when breakfast costs most then a normal dinner, just can not justify going back.

Awesome! Found R Diner by chance on a road trip and we were blown away by the food quality. Enjoyed the Italian omelet and breakfast crepes. Worth driving the extra few miles from the interstate.

I’ve been here a couple times now and I think they do a pretty good job. Service is excellent, both in person and when ordering take-out. Unlike many other places, they take your order professionally. Breakfast here is good and plentiful for what you spend. I had eggs, toast, potatoes and bacon. My only complaint about my breakfast here is that my bacon was super hot and my eggs were a tad colder than I would have liked. Everything tasted very good, though. I had enough to take with me and finish back at the office. My club sandwich was very good, although not a traditional club sandwich. Club sandwiches typically being turkey(no ham) and with three slices of bread, and here it’s two big pieces of think toast with ham as well as the turkey. So, it’s really more like a big turkey and ham sandwich. I really liked it, though.

My experience here was really unfortunate, I went here on a Sunday. The hostess opened the doors for us and then stared at us awkwardly while we read the«please wait to be seated» sign, we picked our own table and she brought us the«Sunday Menu» it was very limited to sandwiches or breakfast. We were displeased with the menu but having already ordered drinks, we decided to stick it out. Our waitress realized the hostess forgot to deliver a specials menu and I felt relief knowing that I had some more options until I was given a sheet of paper with 4 seasonal items such as pumpkin pancakes that I was just not particularly in the mood for. We settled for two meat lovers skillets and the kid picked out the hot dog and fries. The waitress informed us upon ordering that the DINER was OUTOFFRENCHFRIES which was a huge deal breaker for the kid. He asked if they had regular potato chips and she said yes. When our food arrived the skillets were not in a skillet but on a plate, which if you’ve ever had a skillet breakfast in a cast iron skillet, you know it’s much better. The chips my step son received in lieu of his french fries were far from regular potato chips they were waffleish, stale or overcooked and lacking salt he took one bite and left the rest to dump, I understood why when I tasted one for myself. The owner of the restaurant and a few others held a meeting about twelve ft from our table, we heard them complaining about the people they’ve been hiring in the kitchen while we were trying to eat our food. We walked the tab up ourselves and when we left the locked the doors behind us, if only they had locked them before we arrived. I’ve heard the carry out menu has many options but it definitely did not reflect that on the dine in menu we received. The place looked tastefully decorated and neat but the food and choices proved to be mediocre and might I add the waitress knew the kids food was mediocre and the drink wasn’t even included in the kids meal after all of that disappointment. Safe to say, I wouldn’t recommend this establishment to a loved one and I won’t be returning.

I came here for a late lunch and really enjoyed what I ordered. I ordered the Wednesday special which was stuffed cabbage and it was absolutely delicious, the stuffed cabbage came with mashed potatoes and gravy and corn. Our waitress brought out a bread basket and the corn bread was great. There were a ton of options on the menu and everything looked so delicious. My boyfriend ordered the polish plate that had pierogies, kraut, potatoes and kielbasa. He absolutely loved it and said it was delicious and tasted very homemade. I don’t live in Monroe but if I did I would hit this place often, there’s something for everyone and they even deliver! Very reasonable prices too, if you want comfort food definitely hit the R diner.

The restaurant is a really nice place to eat. The service and food are both really good. I had the Creamy Mushroom Soup for the first time, and WOW!!! It was very, very, good. I recommend it if you like this type of soup. Homemade, and I was told the owner comes in and makes it herself with no one around so they can’t see what she puts in it… Legend? Fact? I have eaten here many times now, and really enjoy the food and have yet to have bad service, or less than good food, and every one is very upbeat and cheerful. The only thing that I would change is to have more than one slice of toast for Breakfast. To get a side order of another slice is $ 1.99 extra.

Great staff, clean and tidy inside. Menu is not too big, but it always scares me when a diner serves american favorites with Mediterranean food and some Coney Island items too. I am an avid Mediterranean feaster, so this was average. I had the chicken shawarma wrap, but replaced the chicken with gyro meat and my wife got the Gyro platter. She said she would not come back. I say it’s worth a second shot, but I am worried about the«instant» food preparation; for example, box made hummus(yes, from a box) Server Jackie was delightful!

This place is Correct. Food was well seasoned, portion sizes were manageable, our server Monica was upbeat and attentive. The chicken and waffle was the best I’ve had around. Finding a spot like this in your town is rare, and should be appreciated!

I am rating a three because it was our first visit and we only tried breakfast.(When we return and if their lunch and dinner is as good as breakfast, I will surely rate a four). Summary: Restaurant was very clean. Service was great. Wait staff very nice. Food: I had the Hungry Man and the link sausage was awesome. I am accustomed to two pieces of toast with breakfast and they only served one piece, although it was a very thick Texas-style bread. My son is a hot dog«expert» and he liked R Diner’s Coney dogs better than his former«favorite»(Delta Coney Island). My four-year old loved the Wiki sticks they gave him to play with(and take home), while waiting for our food. Very nice touch! We will definitely return to experience their lunch and dinner menu. A very enjoyable experience.

Was in town for a funeral and on the last morning there two us went to the R Diner for breakfast. We mentioned that we only had an hour at most to the hostess. We were seated and a waitress came over to us within a couple of minutes, just enough time to look over the menus. The waitress stated that she had heard we only had an hour, and took our orders for big breakfasts. I thought it was pretty great that the hostess and the waitress had communicated our time issue and were on top of it. The food came, typical but good quality breakfast eggs, bacon, etc. When the waitress returned, she asked if we could like any coffee in to go cups. We both declined but again it was very impressive. If I was in Monroe again, we would go here again for breakfast. It was a really pleasant experience beyond the food

Came in for the first time for dinner on Ash Wednesday the service and food was excellent. We even got a banana cream pie to share which was excellent(from Cakes by Stephanie). Went back in this morning for breakfast. Had the special banana pancakes and my husband got the house special over easy with big toast. We will be back as the food and service was great again.

Wait staff friendly and helpful, chicken fried chicken was very good and my wife liked the burger. The pot pie was aweful. The filling was too thin and lacked flavor and the bottom crust was completely raw — gross!.plus they had instant mashed potatoes(I mean come on it’s very easy to boil potatoes) Cabbage soup was alright. We might be back for breakfast.
