If you are a Scouter and are looking for a great place to camp or hike GOTOTRASK! Such a beautiful place… makes you forget you are so close to the city. But that’s not what makes Trask so special, it’s Ranger Anthony. Anthony and his staff go out of their way to make you feel at home and ensure you have a pleasant visit. Thanks Anthony!

This is a pretty intense uphill hike on a paved road. It can be hard on your knees if you don’t pace yourself or if you aren’t wearing the proper shoes. Along the way, you’ll pass a dam, property belonging to the city, abandoned stairways that lead to an old shack, and many interesting creatures. I heard unfamiliar noises like some type of large animal grunting and another critter that sounded like a quail! The road meanders forever and a day and I had to stop and reevaluate my options. It’s definitely a great workout and I was starting to feel it in places throughout my body that I often ignore. I’d definitely attempt this hike again in the near future but the paved roads detract from that overall feeling of a good hike!

Small paved parking area prior to heading up to Camp Trask. This area requires you to pay a $ 5 vehicle admission fee. You can buy it at the station. Lots of hikers on the road up to Camp Trask. After you see the Camp Trask bear sign, follow the mountain road up to the campground. The camp has a swimming pool, a parade ground, and a cool fort. Currently the pool looks really nasty. Wouldn’t recommend swimming in it.
