My grandfather and I stayed here after our hike from Katahdin through the 100 mile wilderness. Phil was very welcoming and enthusiastic about our stay in his beautiful cabins. We got a tour of the property. The cabins were clean, comfortable, and quiet. We had access to showers and a full kitchen with everything you could possibly need. need. There is a cabin for relaxing which has a small library for those of you who are looking to read. Also a fire pit with benches and a picnic table with an amazing view of the night sky. This was the perfect place to rest after almost 2 weeks in the woods, and would be a nice place to stay if you’re looking to take a trip up to Maine. When available Phil provided us with shuttle service into town where we could do laundry, eat dinner, and resupply. On the way there we were given plenty of information about Monson and the surrounding area. Bikes with saddlebags are provided to ride into town whenever you need them. I was shuttled to Bangor, the ride was nice with great conversation. Overall this is a great place to stay for a fair price. I will definitely be returning to see how the business is progressing.

I used Phil Pepin’s service for my Appalachian Thru-hike. At that time he was courteous and did provide decent service, although he talked incessantly and bored me to tears; HOWEVER, when I was injured on the trail, he rescued me and asked me to work at his camp until autumn. While I worked for him he was dishonest, in my opinion, he talked about his clients and made very ugly comments about the women who used his services, especially one woman from Arlington, VA and her daughter. He told me that he was a good judge of people and that Rita was a controlling dyke who hadn’t had any«dick» since that one was born(meaning her daughter). I don’t think any woman would want Phil as her guide. He would frequently make negative comments saying, «yeah I will have to pull that chunky one out of the woods» and claimed that his wife complained that those clients who didn’t make it through were«losers» and he responded by telling her that those«losers’ was how he made his money. As an employer, I would rate him as dishonest(I feel he got to me work under false pretenses and promises) and he calls his competitors«trail whores» claiming all they do is provide services, which is all he really does. One couple who drove for two days to get to his camp was turned away because they thought as a ‘guide’ Phil would give them some pointers. He basically told them they would die out in the woods and to go home or go on vacation somewhere else. He could have saved them the money and the long trip by giving them this worthless advice when they first contacted them. After they left he told me that his time to advise them was worth $ 500, and they didn’t even offer him a tip for the advice he did give them.(He never charged other clients for the same advice). Still, Phil Pepin and I had a good working relationship until he learned that I was an atheist and suddenly my job became a labor job, not a campground management job, and he told me that he couldn’t afford to pay me. He knew I was stranded and at his mercy. I would never trust this man with anything. In my opinion, he lied, he does not run an above-board service, and he derives pleasure from the failures of his clients. Piss poor in my opinion.
