It;s summer and Montauk is the destination to enjoy an ocean weekend. We made a reservation at South Edison, The staff was courteous and helpful. They take pride in their approach to ensure a great dining experience, The Pickled Martini is why mixology is a growing profession. We shared a shellfish tower and one of my all time favorites ;the Octopus Tacos. For the entrees we decided sharing 2 entrees which would allow us to sample the kitchen’s talent. The Hand Cut Fettuccine and the Chile Dusted Scallops delighted our palates. Now the challenge; did we have the stamina to have dessert? Cappuccino and an ice cream sundae it was.

The service was great and everyone was very nice. However, the food lacked any memorable taste. Everything we ordered(the lobster buns, the poke, rock shrimp) not tasty at all. Its also expensive for bad food. However, my friend enjoyed her chalupa. I will not be returning

We came to Montauk on a whim and found this little gem. Our server Amy was a doll and the hostess was great too. Try the pickle martini with Hangar 1 and fresno chills; it’s delicious. Also the olive braised baby octopus tacos are amazing. A great dining experience with a sweet staff. None of the snobby NYC bs here.

We came here at 5:15pm with no reservation and the restaurant had one table occupied. The hostess seemed extremely annoyed that we didn’t have a reservation. She sat us(2 adults and our 2 year old) at a table for two in the middle of the restaurant. The waitress, drinks, and appetizers were very good– we had oysters which were delicious. The ambiance was nice and the server was very knowledgable about the menu. The restaurant was still empty an hour later when we were planning on leaving and they had only acquired one other table in that time that they sat right behind my daughter’s high chair. Her chair was actually touching their table bc the table we were given was not appropriate for 2 adults and a high chair. Unfortunately, since the hostess greeted us and left a bad taste in our mouths, I cannot really give more than 3 stars. First impressions!

Was really looking forward to dinner after my wife researched this place. We arrived 13 minutes early for out reservation and they would not seat us, directing us to the bar. Bartender was friendly and welcoming, but I watched two small tables remain open during our wait until we were sat at a third. When waitress greeted us, she asked if we wanted to order straight away, so we gave her the whole thing. The three different species of fresh Long Island oysters came quick and were amazing, but my wife waited for her cocktail and waited… It didn’t take long to finish 3 oysters and we sat at an empty table. Eventually her drink came and it was delicious… then we waited. We watched a table next to us sit. Then we watched them wait. They eventually got the waitress’s attention and gave their order. We were still awaiting our octopus taco apps, while we watched them bring the wrong apps to the table along side of us… twice! Then they brought their apps and entrees at the same time. Frustrated, they sent back one of each and ate before us! As I grabbed the bus/runner, the waitress appeared with both our apps and entrees and asked«what do you want to do?» I said take back the apps and we’ll just have the entrees. At that point it had been over 45 minutes since we sat. The entrees were fantastic, but couldn’t make up for the disaster in service. As we discussed with the couple who sat along side of us, we agreed, the disappointment in service was only made worse by the absence of the hostess/manager in the dining area, to see the problems and try to correct. Needless to say after all that we skipped dessert. On the way out I stopped at the hostess stand. I complimented the food, and pointed out the problems with the service. I was told they were short staffed. I’m sorry, I don’t think it was a matter of number but a matter of competence. It’s a shame since the kitchen put out some delicious dishes, but I can’t say they made up for the slow and inattentive table service.

Nice place, food is good but some trainings on the waiters and bussers could be interesting to improve the quality of the service. Smile was in option tonight. Too bad we didn’t check for that one !!

Terrible experience. First of all, the service was SO bad. I seriously think our waiter could not have cared less about giving any insight on the menu or asking if we’d like another drink. I had to literally stand up and flag him over to attend to us. When we ordered and I did ask questions about the menu, it didn’t seem like he knew what he was talking about. Second of all, the food was not very good. The lobster buns were probably the best of what we ordered, but not great. The bun to lobster ratio was way off — too much bread for the amount of lobster, and the brioche buns should have been toasted rather than served cold. I was very excited to try the rock shrimp, but it was so salty that it was actually inedible. We had to send it back, in fact. He promised he would remove the charge for this item from our bill but didn’t — we had to ask him to remove it when we got the check. The annoying thing is he wasn’t even apologetic about it! He had the worst attitude. Not to mention, he dropped our check without asking if we wanted anything else, like whether we’d like dessert or another drink(and I did want another drink). The service experience was comparable to a diner. I’m so mad that I wasted my time and money here. Don’t make the same mistake, there are plenty of great restaurants in Montauk to have to eat bad food and deal with rude and pretentious service staff.

Came here during vacation and my g/f and I loved the place — the fluke crudo was delicious and we also had some very good swordfish special. We will be there again next year for sure.

Completely inedible. Unbelievably bad. You would think someone would notice fully untouched plates. Nope. The octopus in the tacos were slimy and disgusting. Scallops drowning in sesame oil, revolting. Had one bite of the romaine salad and could not continue it was so gross. How does one get this bad???

Went here early 2 nights ago Had a great waitress She was attentive and prompt Had 2TERRIBLE dinners(wifee and mine) She had the short rib which were barely edible. Mostly gristle and lacked any flavor(short ribs w no flavor is almost impossible) I had the«day boat» scallops Day boat my ass!!! Might have been a day they were caught. But it surely wasn’t that day!!! For apps we had the Brussels and shoshitos The sprouts were both bland and not cooked properly. They couldn’t even be cut w a knife. Shoshitos were also not cooked properly and had little seasoning Sad!!! I would have thought someone would see nearly full plates going back and asked if there was a problem. Um, NO I can only conclude that South Edison does not care much for the after season diner! Therefore, we shall not be going back

Solid meal. Very good seafood offerings and a nice summer scene with picnic tables outside. We ordered: scallop ceviche, corn, rock shrimp, grilled romain salad, octopus tacos, stracciatella and monkfish. Everything was excellent, but we weren’t wow-d by the romain salad. We had a late reservation and showed up earlier. They are pretty strict about the reservations so if you want to sit inside make sure you have a res. we ended up outside at the picnic tables and had a great time.

One of the best dining experiences we’ve had this year. Perfect execution on all fronts, from service to presentation, ambiance to mood, and of course, taste! We started with the home made stracciatella, and starting with a ‘bang!’ we did. Pressed and strained mozzarella, creamy and savory, balanced with salty chunks of beet. This app was so good, it could be featured on «The Best Thing I Ever Ate.» My wife ordered the hand cut fettuccini, and it was nothing short of spectacular. The pasta was perfectly doughy and fresh, the sauce was creamy and delicious. Portion was a bit small but since the dish was so rich, we didn’t notice! My entrée was the winner — the seared tuna. Nowhere in the world can you get better seafood than Montauk, and South Edison is preparing at the top of the game. The tuna was perfectly seared rare, a nice light crust outside and perfectly tender, fresh pinkish red inside. The cauliflower mash, combined with the bean spread, are a succulent base for the fish, the flavors dance with each other in every bite. The wheatberry is a nice touch, it adds a little density component and is set off by the olive bits. An what a serving! For the price, you really do get a generous piece of fish. So much so that we were too full to enjoy a dessert. I have one complaint which in many restaurants, would cause me to knock down the rating. And it’s that the red wine was delivered too cold, almost refrigerator temps, too cold even if it was a white. But, I’m going to stick with the perfect rating because the food, service, and all other aspects were so top notch, I can look over this. However, the next time I come in, if I order a bottle of red I will go over this with the server! As for the rest of experience, the space is beautiful, the servers were friendly and accommodating, the ambiance and the mood is sexy and vibrant but also relaxing and inviting. I’m so glad I was finally able to visit and I look forward to future visits! Well done.

South Edison is a seafood ‘fusion’ restaurant located not too far from the beach. The restaurant aims towards using freshly caught seafood and local produce. The restaurant has an extensive raw bar(oysters, clams, shrimp, jumbo lump crabmeat), a wide selection of wines and beers, stellar signature Pickle Martinis, and extraordinary desserts. The restaurant was decorated like a Hampton style beach house with a fun and casual atmosphere. The restaurant only serves dinner and each table has a candle making the environment quite romantic and intimate. For drinks, we ordered the Kolsch(German pale ale) and Montauk Mojito(cocktail consisting of Latin American rum, simple syrup, mint, and muddled berries(strawberry, blueberry). We were surprised that the Montauk Mojito was not sweet, a bit tart, but very strong in alcohol content. This restaurant didn’t have a bread basket. Instead, each person got a slice of white bread and salty butter to share. For raw bar, we ordered Rocky Point and Wild Montauk raw oysters and Cherry Stone Clams. All of the oysters /clams were fresh, large, and briny. It came with four condiments — scallion and ginger sauce, herb mignonette, horseradish, and cocktail sauce. For appetizers, we shared Chargrilled Romaine and Grilled Corn Clam Chowder. The Char-grilled Romaine consisted of heirloom cherry tomato, crispy brussels sprout, red water cress, and baby kale tossed in a light rosemary dressing and garnished with shave parmesan and micro opal basil. The Grilled Corn Clam Chowder consisted of milk, clam liquor, little neck clams, herbs, and vegetables(mainly, grilled corn and steamed potatoes). It was pretty rich and creamy. It also had a strange taste(not your typical corn and clam chowder). For entrees, we ordered the Seared Yellowfin Tuna, Lemon Buttermilk Braised Chicken, and Chili Dusted Local Sea Scallops. The Seared Yellowfin Tuna had a Mexican flare. It consisted of seared rare yellowfin tuna served over a harissa infused cauliflower purée topped with heirloom black beans, wheatberry, and castelevetrano olives. It was drizzled with a cilantro-lime sauce. The Lemon Buttermilk Braised Chicken consisted of fried chicken brushed with fresno chili gastrique, served with cheddar scallion donut and sautéed baby kale, and garnished with micro aramanth. The Chili Dusted Local Sea Scallops consisted of three seared black and blue sea scallops served on glass noodles with sauteed oyster mushrooms and brussel sprouts and garnished with micro cilantro. Due to a spicy sensitivity, we asked to skip the chili dust and for the ‘roasted red pepper marconi almond romesco’ sauce to be served on the side. For desserts, we shared the Coconut Baked Alaska and Pistachio Profiteroles, both of which were quite extraordinary. The Coconut Baked Alaska consisted of coconut pound cake topped with frozen coconut custard and torched whipped cream. It was served with a scoop of mango vanilla sorbet and drizzled with passionfruit coulis(fancy term for purée). The Pistachio Profiteroles consisted of three profiteroles filled with pistachio gelato and salted white chocolate ganache, topped with candied pistachios, and served in a cinnamon white chocolate sauce. They have a variety of Harney & Sons tea(e.g. green tea, mint tea, chamomile tea, earl grey supreme, and raspberry tea, etc) which was a great compliment to desserts.

First timer We have been coming to MTK for almost 20 years and have seen a lot of changes. One of the most positive changes we’ve seen is the quality of restaurants that have opened up. South Edison did not disappoint! We were there at the first seating on Subday because we had to get back home so overall the place was not packed crowded. The staff was very friendly and very professional. My father is a stickler for good manners amd he was very impressed. Something as simple as confirming that everybody has finished before removing our plates really went a long way ! The pickle martini is definitely something to try. I had the Fresno Chili in mine and it provided a good kick! I had the Romain salad to start with which was excellent. We shared the fried olives as a table which I highly recommend. For my entrée I had the octopus tacos which were just awesome. Dessert was equally as impressive as the dinner. Pistachio Profitarolls were delicious and the Ice Cream Sandwhich bites were satisfying as well. Overall a great experience. We were so happy we made a reservation for the next weekend we are out east!

Delicious! We came here for dinner on Sunday night and it was great. Beautiful atmosphere and beautiful food. We started with a basil gimlet and fried olives and shishito peppers. All was great. Cocktail was well balanced and refreshing. Fried olives were all you could imagine. They came garnished with a goat cheese mouse and were delightful. Would have like a little more for the $ 9 price tag. The peppers were perfectly cooked and so fresh with the cucumber yogurt sauce. For entrée we had the fluke sashimi and octopus tacos. Fluke was fresh and garnished perfectly so that each bite was a perfect symphony of crunch, umami and citrus. Octopus tacos were great but my only critique would be to use the traditional two tortillas as opposed to their one tortilla. It fell apart because it was so juicy and I ended up having to eat it with a fork and knife. For dessert we had the profiteroles and they were great as expected. We really enjoyed this place and look forward to coming back again.

We were here mid-May. Excellent service. The place is beautiful — light, colorful, fun but sophisticated. Had the lobster buns and fried olives for apps, heirloom tomato fettucine and grilled cauliflower for our mains. Everything was fresh and delicious. We had the sundae for dessert which was way too big for two people, the brownies were very dense and fudgy, the blondies were dense and dry but the overall meal was really great.

LOVETHISPLACE!!! Have been coming here for years and this year it is even better than ever! Came in with a large group and as someone who also works in the industry, I know how hard large parties can be to deal with… The service was fantastic! Even though the whole restaurant was full we felt like we had the place to ourselves since the service was so attentive. The food was what really got me though. The creativity and precision put into each dish was impeccable. Because of the size of our group we got to taste pretty much everything and I can say that not one thing let me down. Bravo chef! I hear they have another restaurant located in Manhattan called Bo’s and since I live in Manhattan I can’t wait to check it out! If it is anything like South Edison it has got to be good!

We were finally able to get a table this past summer since it’s always packed. Hostesses usually have an attitude. Our server was no different this time… a smile wouldn’t have hurt her but she looked like she just found out her cat died… and like we were the one’s who killed it! But luckily, we were distracted by the great variety of oysters we ate and my hubby also really liked the fluke. I got the tostones which were a little greasy. But we both enjoyed the sundae which was massive, and we weren’t able to finish. There are so many great places to eat in Montauk that have great food along with better service that South Edison lacks. We won’t be returning.
