Much to my chagrin and that of a lot of other members, Energia is now closed. It was a wonderful oasis and I miss it every day.

I have been working out at Energia for a few months now and I have been thoroughly impressed. The place is immaculately clean first of all. The staff is attentive and extremely pleasant. Another big plus is they just got a whole new fleet of BRANDNEWSPIN bikes! Their instructors for spin and body pump have been awesome! I’ve been to the sports center and garden and this place has them beat for many reasons! The mixture of a great gym with the spa and the products they sell is so convenient. I’ve bought my wife some Christmas presents from their spa and have had a few GREAT massages! I highly recommend this gym for the reasons I listed before, but is also so nice to get away from the crazy«busyness» of the Sports Center. I want to get my workout done in 60 mins. You can’t really do that at the Sports Center from anywhere around 4pm-9pm due to crowds and good like finding a treadmill at anytime at the Sports Center. Energia Body Centre is awesome! I almost feel selfish writing this review because I don’t want my favorite place to get too busy, haha. Oh well, these guys deserve your business.

This is strictly in reference to my(several) facial waxing experience(s) from this establishment… I got a message from Susan encouraging me to update my review because she felt offended that I did not disclose my recent experience. Well, I’ve been restraining myself to do so because based on my repeated visits after the initial, I’m sorry to state that I absolutely cannot upgrade the amount of stars and I seriously didn’t want to put it out there because everyone had been friendly. Unfortunately, my personal experience had been a wreck here when it came to waxing. As a matter of fact, I’ve downgraded the rating. I liked how Tony and Susan didn’t charge me for my second eyebrow wax attempt… Susan was fantastic at just tweezing my brows and even gave me information about threading and who does it around the town. She even gave me a product name that she trusts regarding removal of ingrown hair. Again, she’s a fantastic individual. Susan further attempted to educate me about my skin’s prone to lifting(aka: ripping off) from waxing. Though she meant well, I disagreed with this statement. There’s a difference between minor burn(a history that I’ve revealed to her during my initial visit) and skin pulled off my face. I’ve had minor burns before from one other esthetician and my skin looked red, and it felt sensitive to touch… I never saw this particular esthetician again because of these events, obviously! Anyhow, when my skin was ripped off at Energia, it looked like a blister without the top layer; two days later, a scar formed. I’ve gone to two other day spas since my first visit at Energia and my skin was never ripped off from the waxing(not even a burn!). In contrast, the additional times I returned to Energia resulted in skin getting ripped off. Yes, I may have been a fool to return to Energia for waxing, but I really liked the staff and their location is so convenient. I even sought a different esthetician to ensure it wasn’t just the skill. Lastly, I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, I ended up sacrificing lost epidermis(three times!!!). I’ve decided that Energia’s wax plainly does not co-mingle well with my facial skin. Susan even reminded me in her message that waxing can have unpredictable side effects. However, it seemed that the poor effects were experienced at Energia. Coincidence, maybe? But, if my skin was left intact at other establishments after waxing, surely, I shouldn’t be faulted. And so, that’s my personal experience with the waxing at Energia, and I’m the one disappointed. And maybe I should be the one offended, too.

Came here with hubby for a day of relaxation to celebrate anniversary. I wish I could give it 3.5 stars. I really debated whether to round up or down and decided to round down for reasons which I will list as cons later. Pros — this place is clean and well laid out. The spa area itself is small, but the locker room is one of the nicest I have seen. They have full showers and provide a lot of the essentials you would need like hair dryers, toiletries, etc. The treatment rooms were standard. Nothing exciting. We chose their signature package at $ 170 per person — massage, facial, foot scrub, and scalp massage. The massage and facial were standard — not bad but not anything special. Cons — We came right on time for our appointments, but the spa really prefers you come 20 minutes early, which I understand for time flow, but I did not think the spa was that busy yet we I felt rushed to get us checked in and started. They ushered us to the locker rooms and asked us to go into the«warming room» aka waiting room to fill out some forms. The waiting room is small and had some teas, but just a pitcher of water, whcih probably had ice in it at some point but now looked stale with some white stuff floating in it and 2 paper cups. I am sure at some point there was more than just 2 cups, but maybe the room just did not get refreshed when we came. I filled out the forms as fast as I could, but before I could finish the therapist came to get me saying he wanted to get started asap so as to not cut into my time at the spa. My husband did not even fill out his forms. To be honest, I could care less about completinfg the forms, but why even give them to us. Sigh — small annoyance that is all. But I did feel rushed during the last part of our treatment. The scalp massage was like 3 minutes long and was not that exciting. Same thing for the foot scrub. It was ok. I would recommend coming here to jsut get a massage or facial a la carte.

I had a regular Swedish massage and my masseuse was very good. The pressure was just right and the atmosphere was very lovely. The waiting room only had two types of magazines: Health and a spa digest. I wish they had more to choose from. They also offered individually packaged teas, which are very adorable. Many eccentric flavors available. After my massage I took a shower, but I think my conditioner dispenser was broken. Either that, or it was clogged and needed some attention. They only have a sauna, which was nice, even though it was small. I was able to fit my part of three comfortably, but if anyone else wanted to enter we would have had to squish. I wish they had a hot tub or other things to choose from because I like spending hours relaxing at a spa and I got pretty bored with just a sauna.

This is a great little place located right in the center of the Del Monte Center, near Macy’s so there is always, always plenty of free parking! Lori(the owner and one of the fitness instructors) is cute, spunky, and will take the time to describe the classes they offer to make you feel comfortable. Plenty of yoga and spinning classes are available… and I’m hoping that they will soon extend their weekend hours and add more circuit training and floor aerobic classes. The spa is great for massages, facials(they have Dermalogica products!), and one of the few places that you will find Brazilian waxing services(partial, not a full) in Monterey. I’ll spend an entire afternoon here when I need to relax. There’s always a wonderful selection of teas available in the warming room and the restroom/dressing area is always fully stocked with all the daily necessities — lotions, hair products, robes, etc. =)
